devastated. the host country, brazil, trampled in the world cup with a beating by germany for the history books. how did brazil get to the semifinal to lose so badly? and the mama grisly goes rogue again, slamming the president using heir political power to call for president obama's impeachment, but is anybody on the right taking her seriously? and drew carey's sitcom taught us why cleveland rocks, but now the gop wants in on that action by having their national convention there in 2016. this is "way too early"! ♪ ♪ cleveland rocks, cleveland rocks, cleveland rocks, cleveland rocks ♪ ♪ hey, everybody. good morning. i'm thomas roberts. it is wednesday, july 9th. welcome to "way too early," the show that's mad at brazil for scoring one goal because our bug was going to be ger-many versus bra-zilch. oh, come on, that's good! then they get the oscar guy, he

scores in like the 90th minute. anyway, we begin with -- that's a good bug, and i commend the "way too early" staff for getting that on as quickly as possible as they did. we begin with the story everybody's talking about, the brazilian blowout. it was long, but not luxurious. fans are in shock and utter disbelief after germany crushed them in epic fashion. we had seven total goals by the end of the match, bringing brazilian fans to tears. many were not able to hide the humiliation and heartache. this morning "the new york times" is calling brazil a "nation in despair." "the telegraph" calls it the "biggest humiliation in the history of brazilian football," and the "bleacher report" reports the "epic blowout will never be matched." and this christ the redeemer statue is shown lifting off out of sheer embarrassment. so, that brings us to our twitter question for you this morning.

what is your favorite mean from the game? we saw that and there are many others out there. tweet us your most creative answers using #waytooearly. jen likes that one. she's still laughing. you can laugh out loud. we'll put the best ones on later in the show, and of course, we'll have highlights coming up in sports. she's doing the shoulder shake, trying to contain herself. we get to our other top story this morning. in a year when president obama was hoping to pass comprehensive immigration reform, he is instead asking for billions to stem the growing crisis at the border. he's looking to congress for an emergency $3.7 billion for outreach to central america and new detention facilities, immigration judges and border patrol agents to deal with the influx of some 50,000 undocumented children. the request is already getting a less than enthusiastic response. house speaker john boehner says the president's plan does not deploy the national guard. other lawmakers are calling for faster deportations and are not happy with how this money is going to be spent.

>> it comes to tens of thousands of dollars for each one of these children and no plan, no accountability in terms of how that money is going to be spent. $3.7 billion is a slap in the face of the taxpayers of the united states, to say this problem, in my opinion, created by the president of the united states in terms of his lax enforcement of immigration laws. >> president obama arrives in texas today, where he will attend fund-raisers and meet with local leaders, but he will not be visiting the border. and after a flap over whether the two would shake hands for a photo op, governor rick perry of texas has agreed to meet with the president today as well. now we turn our attention to the middle east, where israel is locked in a deepening conflict with militants in gaza. israeli defense forces say they hit about 160 targets in response to a growing number of rocket attacks. the attacks triggered siren warnings in more than a dozen parts of israel. now, the country's iron dome defense system was able to

intercept some of the rockets. videos showing wedding guests running for cover during the barrage while the bride and the groom were under a canopy. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu says israel will continue to fight back against this assault, and the army is poised to call up to 40,000 reservists for a possible ground invasion in gaza. israel's air strikes in the gaza strip reportedly killed a top leader of hamas and several other militants. palestinian officials say the attacks also killed more than a dozen civilians, including women and children. while the white house says it is concerned by the increasing violence, it is standing by its closest ally in the region. >> we strongly condemn the continuing rocket fire into israel and the deliberate targeting of civilians by terrorist organizations in gaza. no country can accept rocket fire aimed at civilians, and we support israel's right to defend itself against these vicious attacks. documents from edward snowden reportedly detail which muslim american leaders have been spied on by the nsa and the

fbi. this report comes from glenn greenwald and the "intercept." among those named are college professors, a lawyer, the executive director of the council on relations and a longtime gop operative who once worked in george bush's white house. the report does not detail why these men in particular may have been monitored or what permission the government may have received to go ahead and monitor them. here we have it, ohio playing a major role in the next presidential race long before voters head to the polls there. this is because cleveland has been tapped to host the republican national convention, set to take place in june or july of 2016. cleveland beat out more conservative dallas for the opportunity to name the party's next nominee. cleveland already raised more than $30 million to host the convention there. democrats, meanwhile, are eyeing columbus, brooklyn, birmingham, philadelphia and phoenix as possible venues for their 2016 party. former alaska governor sarah

palin says it is time to impeach president obama over the nation's immigration crisis. palin claims he has intentionally allowed a growing number of children and families to illegally cross the border. the 2008 republican vice presidential candidate made her plea to lawmakers and candidates in an op ed and a video on facebook. >> enough is enough of the years of abuse from this president. his unsecured border crisis for me is the last straw. it makes kind of the battered wife say no mas! that's enough! it's time to impeach. and on behalf of the american workers and legal immigrants while backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician, any candidate on the left or the right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment. the many impeachable offenses of barack obama can no longer be ignored. >> some people would say to sarah palin no mas. meanwhile, one republican candidate, iowa senate hopeful joni ernst is downplaying a

video that's emerged of her suggesting impeachment back in january. here's a look at what she said. >> he is continually using executive order. he is making appointments without authority. so, yes, absolutely, he is overstepping his bounds, and i do think that, yes, he should face those repercussions. now, whether that's removal from office, whether that's impeachment. but as a u.s. senator, absolutely. as a u.s. senator, though, we have to push that issue, and we can't be silent on things like that. he has become a dictator. he is running amuck. he is not following our constitution. >> but in a statement, the ernst campaign says in part, "if any president oversteps their bounds, there are procedures in place for congress and the american people to hold him or her accountable. impeachment is a strong word and should not be thrown around lightly." hillary clinton is playing down claims that the republican

of the clinton name the white house would mean america is turning into a monarchy. in an interview with german outlet dirk spiegel, clinton panned the question that american politics have come to be dominated by bushes or clintons, saying there were two roosevelts and two adamses, adding "it may be that certain families have a certain commitment or predisposition to want to be in politics. i ran for president, as you remember. i lost to somebody named barack obama, so don't think there's any guarantee in american politics. my last name did not help me in the end." democrats are pushing ahead with a plan to override the supreme court's ruling that closely held companies can opt out of the aca's birth control mandate for religious reasons. the legislation would mandate that women have access to contraception under their insurance coverage, even if employers such as hobby lobby objected on religious grounds. the bill is sponsored by senator patty murray of washington and senator mark udall of colorado. senate majority leader harry reid says that the supreme

court's decision in the hobby lobby case was outrageous and promises the legislation will be a top priority for democrats. now, a similar bill will likely face strong opposition in the republican-controlled house. okay, let's shift our attention to the markets and talk business, because as we saw the indices down for a second day, the nasdaq was hit the hardest. the dow fell by more than 100 points. cnbc's steve sedgwick live in london for us with a preview for today. steve, good morning. >> reporter: yeah, very good day to you. market was down, but after hours, alcoa numbers were pretty good. so, that, which seems a bit of a bellwether for u.s. earnings, kicked off the season with good numbers after hours. citigroup under pressure, according to "wall street journal" and others now, it appears they may have to pay $7 billion to the doj and others as part of a settlement regarding sale of mortgage-backed securities. analysts had expected originally the figure would be around $1.5 billion. $7 billion, a huge chunk. and of course, it follows on the french bank, bnp paribas, also having to pay a lot of money to u.s. regulators to settle claims

within the last week or so. >> and steve, let's talk about our iphones, because we've got information that there's video out there that's floating around showing how the new iphone and its screen is going to be more indestructible, because that's one of the bigger complaints people get. murphy's law, as soon as you get a new iphone, somehow, you break it and the screen shatters. >> yeah, this is something that's been talked about a lot. marks brownley, a famous youtube host, has basically played with the screen on a posting and tried to scratch it and twist it and turn it and what have you and has had no break in this thing at all. apparently, it's made of sapphire. already a certain amount of sapphire is used on iphones, on the 5s, the camera and the touch bottom as well, but this would be a new era for the iphone 6, potentially, if it were to be true. >> all right. they need something to help, because all the competition out there. iphone used to be on the top. steve, thank you so much. appreciate it, sir. still ahead on "way too early," more on our top story,

highlighted by the german striker miroslav klose, who scored his record-breaking 16th world cup goal. germany added two more in the second half before brazil finally gets on the board in the 90th minute. a guy named oscar kicked in one for them. i think the german goalie just felt bad for them. the 7-1 final is one of the biggest losses in world cup history. germany's seven goals is the most ever scored in any world cup semifinal. they move on to the final, and they're going to face the winner of today's semifinal matchup between the netherlands and argentina. so, this means, mike, that the brazil fans, they want the netherlands to win, right? because they don't like argentina. >> no. >> no, okay. all right, so, donald sterling appeared in court yesterday in a case challenging the sale of his l.a. clippers team by estranged wife shelly sterling. once on the stand, the 80-year-old shifted between angry and sarcastic outbursts and a soft-spoken demeanor, even choking up while talking about his wife. both sides claim sterling's testimony helps their case. >> just as you saw the real

being the new kid on the block can be intimidating. take your kids on a walk through the online neighborhood and teach them how to navigate safely. show them sites you feel are acceptable. teach them how to deal with cyber bullies, and encourage them to come to you if they've seen something that makes them uncomfortable. you wouldn't let your kids go walking thru the neighborhood without permission, right? the same should hold true when they go online. the more you know.

so, earlier in the show, we recapped germany's historic win over host country brazil in yesterday's world cup semifinal. if you want to sound smart, tell your friends that among the many world cup records, the germans broke are most goals scored in a semifinal game, most goals scored by a country all time, worst lost by a host team and fastest time to score four goals. that game's going to be talked about 50 years from now, as announcers were saying yesterday. they were talking about 1950s games, giving stats from that. they'll be talking about this. okay, let's huddle around the water cooler. we're on "view" watch. >> a lot of records broken. today we're talking about "the view" and a familiar face that could be returning to the show. according to tmz, rosie o'donnell just completed a deal to become co-host once again. this follows the departure of barbara walters, sherri shepherd
