this is "way too early"! hey, everybody. good morning. hope you had a great weekend. i'm thomas roberts. welcome to "way too early," the show that thinks that the tsa should run contests weekly. we want to begin this half-hour with extreme weather moving across much of the country, right now, hundreds of thousands of people are without power, now this was the scene over the weekend after one man killed after a lightning strike happened in venice beach, it happened yesterday afternoon. now, the national weather service said that the beach was hit at least four different times. and take a look at this. it's just one of at least four tornadoes that swept across eastern tennessee yesterday. really wild weather for them. officials say at least ten homes were destroyed including that of

the clayburn county sheriff. right now, there are no reports of death or injuries out of tennessee. all right, bill karins is standing by tracking the severe weather for us this morning. bill, it was a wild one over the weekend. >> if this was may, we would say, this is what you expect. when you get to tend of july, it's supposed to be plain old hot. this stuff like what we saw here, in tennessee and kentucky, supercell thunderstorms. five reported with those. and that lightning strike in california, how rare is that? i mean, they hardly ever get thunderstorms in california period, let alone lightning strikes on the beach. reportedly it came down and hit near the water's edge. that's why so many people got the electrical charge.

it spread through the water. just a sad scene there. as far as today goes, we still have stormy weather, not as dangerous as it was yesterday. still a lot of lightning with those storms. and yesterday, we did have that one tornado reported, too, even in connecticut, we had one, in the really-morning hours. from new york state to connect cut. small tornado with minimal damage. thomas, nothing like what we dealt with yesterday. we're in a weird july pattern. it was like 50s in northern michigan yesterday. >> so atypical. this is just adding to that. all right, bill, thank you, sir. we change gears now, everybody in the world is intent on brokering a truce in the middle east with the exception of hamas and israelis in gaza. more rocket attacks.

secretary of state john kerry has reportedly turned his hope to rolling cease-fires now with a diplomatic solution proving to be lewisive. president obama called prime minister netanyahu to let him know it's time for an unconditional cease-fire. despite growing pressure from the international community, u.s. lawmakers are calling for the white house to stand by one of its strongest allies. >> when it comes to israel, condemn the u.n. human rights report that holds israel responsible for the activity here. the u.n. human rights report is a joke. the u.n. is becoming more anti-israeli. i would push back. congress will do this.

we're going to push back against this report. >> there are new complications this morning in the eastern ukraine and the downing of the malaysia flight 17. a team of investigators were forced to turn back because of deadly clashes. more than a dozen people were killed and officials said they didn't feel safe in that area. the resistant from rebels as the u.s. is pushing for new sanctions against russia. this photo shows artillery strikes last weekend in ukraine. u.s. officials also say russia is preparing to give more missiles to the rebels which moscow denies. hillary clinton said she always had doubts of russian president vladimir putin.
