america better wake up if we're going to live in this country with any kind of freedom and liberty. >> cliven bundy is a perfect example of what this country is facing when it comes to a threat. bundy went from local yahoo to so-called patriot in a matter of days and instant right wing celebrity status was thanks to a certain host on fox news. after bundy's first two appearances on fox, this happened. >> protesters flooded this federal holding pen area aiming to relief cliven bundy's cattle. >> pushing off the gate for now. i'll allow you two in with me. it's the people or not and you need to leave. >> push these people back. >> honest word right here, i'm going to walk you in to negotiate your father. >> walking past armed rangers, the bundyes started talks of releasing cattle and calming crowds. >> you need to keep the crowd calm -- i will dot that.

sovereign -- kind of reappeared very violently in west memphis, tennessee, when jerry and john okay killed two officers there, there have been increasing violent movements across the country. of course, in nevada, we saw that kind of boil over or come to the front of everyone's attention across the country thanks to cliven. >>. >> well, what is the government going to do about this? we've heard that justice is going to be done by these folks who are not abiding by the laws but to my knowledge there hasn't been much movement on any of this? >> in nevada, the militia movement is standing behind cliven bundy. the federal government has -- we know through the news media reports that the fbi is continuing an investigation. but right now cliven is free and walking about. certainly standing in bowled

defiance of the law. the ultimate reality about the sovereign citizen ideology is that it stands to say that the rule of law does not apply to them, that the federal government is at best illegitimate and at worst satanic. it's no surprise that cliven would recently say that he believed that his mission or at least his duty that day was to stand against the federal government per divine instructions. >> well, okay, the bundy ranch and their activities and people that have left that ranch and had violence through connection, you can draw your own conclusions and americans are smart enough to do that. is this isolated? apparently it isn't because this must permeate through our s society if the start reports sheds that this is the great potential threat to america, right here on our soil. >> the start report interviewed law enforcement officers and their assessments on what the
2:12 pm
greatest threat was. we have since 2010 warned of the sovereign citizen movement. they have ideas that are wild conspiracy theories about the federal government. there was a group for example in alabama, the republic for the united states of america which i covered extensively. their president assumed the role of leadership of this country, formed a shadow government that had manifestations in all 50 states. this was a group actually working to form the myriad institutions of federal government for the day when the federal government fell, whether through violent action per their rhetoric or financial collapse, it was of course -- that was left to whatever come what may. but these people exist everywhere. they are our neighbors. they are our school teachers and it's an idea that has proven to be aparticularly appealing in the last five years. >> all right, ryan thanks for

2:14 pm
u.s. senator by the name of dean heller, calling these people patriots which enables them and makes them think we are not on the fringes and we're embold emboldened, that's what happened with cliven bundy. by the way, he's emboldened by that now and going around the country and speaking to groups and saying, freedom and liberty and now invoking scripture and equating the constitution with scripture. i also think if you have the i talk to god card, wouldn't you have played that first? >> it seems to escalate and it's method of being radical, no doubt about that. do the people in nevada put any blame on bundy for the jared miller shootings and those unfortunate events that unfolded? >> you laid out what jared miller said to this station and others. i guess the problem there is
2:15 pm
that there's conflicting stories. some say jared miller was so radical he was kicked out of bunkerville. but clearly he believed in the same preceps and they laid that gadston flag on one of the corpses. they believed in it clearly but that blow back has not come back on bundy. the real problem is what you alluded to earlier, he's allowed to be an outlaw rancher flounting the laws and giving speeches when he should have been arrested a long time ago. he wants to invoke the constitution but knows nothing about the constitution. i don't think he's ever heard of federal supremacy clause. he says whatever comes into his head but he's enabled by mainstream people like shawn hannity and dean heller. >> it seems that justice has escaped the bundy ranch. harry reid said back in april that bundy would be getting away with this. has the government done anything to punish him at all? why don't they move on him if he
2:16 pm
is breaking the law? are they afraid of him? >> i don't think they are afraid of cliven bundy but afraid if they do move on him, that these militia folks could resort to violen violence. they are kind of paralyzed. as i told you a few months ago for this to peter out and population to disburse a little bit, it has, but the more they let this go on, the more emboldened he gets. if you have law enforcement not acting, they essentially are condoning it too. you have the blm folks now arguing with the local folks here, the sheriff about what really happened and who did what and who didn't, instead of acting to take his cows illegally grazing and arrest him for not paying a lot of money over not just a five year period or eight-year period but over 20 years, ed. >> finally, john, for the start report to say that these folks and these kind of groups and
2:17 pm
this movement in america is the biggest threat to the country. from what you've seen personally, do you think that's overboard or spot on? >> it's hard for me to tell what's going on elsewhere, but these feelings are there as your previous guest said. let's face it, ed, most of these folks are armed, access to weaponry, you showed pictures of that sniper. they are right here and who knows, your neighbor could be one. they don't exactly advertise this all the time. is it a clear and present danger? absolutely. i think a lot of people went up to bunkerville and people who live there were frightened to come walking down the street to go to the grocery store and see heavily armed folks walking around their town. >> john ram ralston, great to have you with us tonight. we'll follow the story. thanks, john. remember to answer tonight's question there at the bottom of the screen and share your thoughts on twitter. and of course wegoted and like

2:27 pm
right now? how aggressive are they going to be? do they support the deniers? >> absolutely. there are groups like the heartland institute that are absolutely some of the biggest climate change deniers, but the big issue right now are the new epa proposed regulations that will regulate carbon emissions from coal fired power plants. coal is king at alec. you have peabody energy there and exxon-mobil and that's king, they are going totally ap pro plet tick. there was a representative saying this wassi was going to the political tsunami. >> finally, what do you do with this knowledge? you come back and give a seminar in wisconsin about this is

welcome back. thankds for watching tonight. this is a story i think all americans need to pay attention to. this could be your backyard. thousands of people in ohio and michigan are being denied a basic human right, how about some safe drinking water? a water ban around toledo ohio has been lifted but plenty of questions still remain a water emergency was declared because of a toxic being produced by an algae bloom in lake erie. water plant operations along the western lake erie have been worried about this very scenario for years. a growing number of algae blooms have turned the water into a pae soup color in recent smerz. officials say boiling the water, to prevent contamination, only

levels were reduced to an amount that met the world health organization standards. this morning the mayor of toledo lifted the ban but will not solve the problem of the algae blooms in the lake. if i could just show you a map. the watershed in which this occurred, toledo, ohio exists here. this is ohio. this is part of this is michigan. this is indiana. it's the largest watershed in the entire great lakes draining into the largest river that flows into the great lakes. and the accumulated countrrun o there's nothing to make it work in concert with one another, they end up here and unloaded in the lake. it has been happening for a number of years and this

particular bloom wrapped around the water crib and it was too concentrated and got into the water system and they had to clear that out and filter more of it out. the problem of the loading continues. we have to find an answer to regulate the flows of a material into our rivers and streams because every year we face this problem and it's been getting worse. this is a real warning to us, ed. >> okay. dr. jeffrey roiter with us from ohio state university. doctor, what causes this? how can it be reversed? >> the algae that causes or creates the toxin is a form of blue green algae, the more accurate terminology for that. it's a warm water form of algae. as things get very warm in the summer you're more likely to see the blue greens. they require high

concentrations, high levels of phosphorous primarily but night trow general is important. the harmful blooms we are seeing in toledo are occurring in half of the states right now and also in canada and number of other places around the world. we have to -- in order to solve this, we have to reduce the amount of phosphorous leaving our farm fields coming out from our sewage treatment plants and failing septic tanks, a number of sources, there are really things we can all do. the biggest source in the mau mee river because it drains 4.5 million acres of agricultural land is agricultural runoff, we have to keep the fertilizer as and manure on the fields and not in the water. >> doctor, can't a water treatment plants solve this problem? >> you can exceed the capacity
2:43 pm
of the water treatment plant but think of it this way, ed, you're absolutely right, the temporary fix has to be to arm our water treatment plants with the capabilities to remove the toxin. they do that a common way is by adding some type of activated carbon or charcoal that removes toxins from the water. then you filter out the charcoal. but that's very expensive and if the situation is bad enough, you can exceed the capacity of the plant to remove the toxin and it does nothing to protect our beaches where millions of people swim. the ultimately the better fix is to not have the toxin in the water in the first place. and the only way to do that is to reduce loading of phosphorous. >> okay, congresswoman, did governor kasich do the right thing? do you think your constituents are okay with this?
2:44 pm
>> well, i think it was a temporary and necessary measure but i think as dr. roiter says, the real problem is within this region you have enormous acreage of soybeans and corn being produced and importantly, animal feeding operations with large manure pits in different run over into indiana and ohio and michigan, vacated dutch dairies that went bankrupt but left all of that in the fields, that leeches down into the streams and rivers and has to be cleaned up. we can't pretend it isn't there. this is a living organism and we have to learn to live together. the rivers and streams and ditches all end up draining in and into lake erie. >> all right, it is a story we will follow, very alarming. i understand in the city of toledo this weekend there was not a bottle of water left on the shelves to be sold. people very concerned about it.

and we will follow the story. why was that ban lifted? and we'll get back to that at a later date. marcy captor and jeffrey roiter, we appreciate your time. thanks so much. >> here's one for the deniers out there. climate change is to blame for massive craters appearing in russia. reese halter joins us to talk about it. stay with us. i'm d-a-v-e and . i'm k-a-t-e and i have copd, but i don't want my breathing problems to get in the way my volunteering. that's why i asked my doctor about b-r-e-o. once-daily breo ellipta helps increase airflow from the lungs for a full 24 hours. and breo helps reduce symptom flare-ups that last several days and require oral steroids, antibiotics, or hospital stay. breo is not for asthma. breo contains a type of medicine that increases risk of death in people with asthma. it is not known if this risk is increased in copd.
2:46 pm
breo won't replace rescue inhalers for sudden copd symptoms and should not be used more than once a day. breo may increase your risk of pneumonia, thrush, osteoporosis, and some eye problems. tell your doctor if you have a heart condition or high blood pressure before taking breo. ask your doctor about b-r-e-o for copd. first prescription free at mybreo.com

since robert taira openedsion king's hhis first bakeryd, in a small hawaiian town. making bread so good, that people bought two loaves one to take home, and one to eat on the way. so good, they grew from here. to here. to here. but to grow again, to the east coast they needed a new factory, but where? fortunately, they get financing from ge capital. we not only have teams dedicated to the food industry,
2:48 pm
we're also part of ge, a company that's built hundreds of factories. so we could bring in experts to help king's hawaiian make sense of transportation routes, supply chains, labor pools, and zoning to help them make the right decision. and, i'd like to think, to make their founder proud. if you just need a loan, just call a bank. at ge capital, we're builders. and what we know, can help you grow. then boom... what happened?

welcome back to "the ed show." finally tonight, the appearance of three mysterious craters in
2:55 pm
northern siberia last month prompted numerous conspiracy theories. now russian scientists sent to the site believe they have determined how the massive craters formed and it looks like global warming played a major role. the seemingly bottomless craters appeared to have been caused by thawing permafrost. scientists say unusually high concentrations of methane were present in the bottom of the first crater. they believe this is linked to the abnormally hot summers experienced in the area in 2012 and 2013. as temperatures rose, the per u permafrost melted, the problem is when more methane and c02 are released into the atmosphere, global temperatures increase, which in turn can melt more therm afrost. this is a vicious cycle. we don't have time to deny this any longer. dr. reese halter joins us
2:56 pm
tonight. conservationist and biologist here with us on "the ed show." dr. halter, what can be done to stop this change reaction? how do we reverse this when more and more of these craters keep showing up? what do you think? >> ed, this is a ticking time bomb. the only thing we can do is reduce the amount of fossil fuels that we're spewing daily, 85 million tons of greenhouse heat trapping gases into the atmosphere, and here's the thing. the unintended consequences are epic because if we look at the most perfect carbon dioxi idide warehouses that have ever evolved on our planet, our ancient forests, they're telling us we're in serious trouble. by the way, mature forests are dying on every forested continent. these mature trees for every one
2:57 pm
ton of wood they have sucked out of the atmosphere one and a half tons of c02 and given us one ton of oxygen. this is savery serious, very serious issue. because if we go to the lungs of earth, the amazon jungle, the amazon jungle started to show us in 2005 that it was in serious trouble. we had a storm in 2005 that blew over a half a billion trees. then later that year, ed, a 1 in 500 year drought happened and another couple billion trees died. two years later in 2007 as earth began to warm, we had fires the equivalent of 1 million world cup brazilian soccer fields burning and then the mother of all drought in 2010 in the amazon that killed another couple billion trees.
2:58 pm
>> so the permafrost, i mean, this is something that really hasn't been seen as a problem in the past, at least not to the novice eyes of those who follow climate change in this country. and around the world. go ahead. >> it's been full -- we have had our eyes on this radar screen, big time, man. this is a gas that's 72 times stronger than carbon dioxide at trapping heat. we have been watching. what's happened is the soils frozen. when the soils are warming as they are now, they're beginning to decay. as they decay, they release methane. and this is an unstoppable time bomb, and the kicker about our forests that are dying, the amazon, is that the amazon creates their own rain clouds every day, ed. this is a white shield around the equator that gets the highest amount of solar
2:59 pm
radiation that provides moisture to earth but it also, it reflects to incoming solar radiation so when we move these trees dead, we have no shield. >> dr. halter, is this similar to anything else you have studied? >> no, this is the full meal deal, man. in other words, our life support system on planet earth is breaking down. hello, i hear earth calling, sos. the question is, is anybody home? ed? >> well, i hope they're home. we have a lot of deniers out there across the country, across the world, actually, but we're the number one country in the world when it comes to climate change denial. there's no question about that. but when you see these kind of stuff and you hear that the permafrost is melting, if this doesn't wake people up, i don't know what will. dr. reese halter, we will have you back and continue our discussions here on climate
3:00 pm
change. i appreciate your time so much tonight. thank you. that's "the ed show." i'm ed schultz. "politics nation with al sharpton" starts right now. good evening, rev. >> thanks. thanks to you, ed, and thanks to you for tuning in. i'm live in washington. tonight's lead, the gop gets carried away with its own impeachment mania. today, the right wing has a new and even more outlandish strategy to tear down president obama. threatening to impeach him for things he might do in the future. a prominent tea party congressman, steve king, is wanting the president not to take executive actions on immigration later this summer. >> i think congress has to sit down and have a serious look at the rest of this constitution and that includes that i word that we don't want to say, and i only say that 93 on this
