. welcome to "way too early," the show constantly playing the password settings because we forget them. common with old age. and investigating an attack at a military base northwest of kabul that left a two star army major general dead. this is the highest esest ranking american killed in the wars. harold green was the second-highest american serving in afghanistan, and oversaw transition efforts. this was his first war zone deployment. green and others were at the camp tuesday when an afghan soldier opened fire seriously injuring several before being killed in return gunfire. the 15 wounded include 8 americans, 2 brits, 1 german 4 afghans. it was on the decline as the international presence wound down. 31 attacks in 2012 to 2 this

year. a taliban spokes sspokesman did not say they carried out the attack but praised the afghan soldier on the shooting spree. it was the first time since the vietnam war that a u.s. general was killed in an overseas conflict. major general harold green, the son of a world war ii veteran, married to an army colonel and the son of a soldier. he was proud to serve and proud of the mission he was accomplishing over there. here in the u.s. this morning, american missionary and ebola patient nancy writebol is undergoing treatment in atlanta. the 53-year-old was wheeled in on a gunnyrny on thursday. she's covered from head to toe. now on their behalf the spokesman from the relief organization thanked everyone for their support.

the polls had bad news for president obama. 40% say they approve of his performance. this is an all-time low in nbc polls. 54% disapprove of the job he's doing as president. 36% approve of his handling of foreign policy issues another all-time low. 64% say they don't approve at all. 64% do not approve the way they are handling undocumented children from central america and 45%, against the israel and hamas conflict. and 14% approve of congress. that's six-straight polls where the number is less than 15%. and democrats and republicans find themselves under water. republicans, a 19% favorable rating, 54% unfavorable. democrats, 31% favorable rating and 36% unfavorable.

it was considered the tea party's last realist shot at defeating an incumbent senator this year. the group's future ask questioned in kansas as three-term senator pat roberts beat milton wolf a doctor and second cousin of president obama. wolf received 41%, making it closer than the polls show. senator roberts had strong support from republicans. and he admitted renting out the home of kansas he represents. after declaring victory, the senator asked them to come together. >> unity must happen if we are to keep kansas red. it must happen if we are going to defeat the obama agenda and send harry reid packing.

[ applause ] republicans in kansas and nationally cannot afford the kind of intra-party fratricide that we have seen recently. friends, we can't afford to waste scarce resources and energy tearing ourselves apart. we cannot afford a fractured party. the stakes are just too high. >> if senator lemar alexander beats joe carr in tomorrow's primary, it will be the first assign since 2008 where no republican incumbent senator lost a primary. dave trott beat the tea party candidate in michigan. trott put more than $2 million of his own money in the race and had the support of mitt romney and the chamber of congress. he won in 2012 when congressman

resigned after not qualifying for the ballot. the 72-hour cease-fire between israel and hamas appears to be holding on. people out on the streets, shops reopened. there were concerns for a moment when hamas fired a barrage of rockets into israel five minutes before the cease-fire. most were shot down. negotiations are set to begin soon in cairo. the gaza health ministry said 10,000 injured, that's compared to 64 israeli soldiers being killed and three civilians. new information just coming in about a really scary situation here in new york city. wnbc reporting one of the drivers involved in yesterday's two double decker tour bus crash in times scare has been arrested accused of driving while impaired possibly from med sags. the majority of those injured

were pedestrians. and you can see this earth cam footage. keep a close eye on the left corner of the screen. that's where a light pole fell into the sidewalk, striking some pedestrians. a tour bus guide flew forward, hurt when her head lodged under a dash board. she is expected to recover. first responders had trouble getting to the scene, and the crowds arriving on foot. if you're familiar with new york and times square this happened at the sbeks of seventh and 42nd where you can get different tickets for broadway. and it was a major snarl yesterday. some people, like myself took an hour to get home just through midtown. luckily most everybody is going to be okay from that. well on to business. u.s. stocks down sharply yesterday. hit by unease over ukraine and the fear of higher interest rates. and jeff is in london with more. good morning. >> hey, good morning.

it was a heavy cocktail of geopolitical concerns about russia and improving economic data that has people worried that interest rates are going to go up sooner in the united states that led us lower. this took back all of monday's gains for the markets. and some m and a issues on the table. and keep an eye on time warner and fox, looking for earnings. but mr. murdoch decided to drop the $80 billion acquisition plans for time warner. negative open likely in the stocks. this is a scary story, "the new york times" says that holt security discovered that over a billion passwords and other information has been stolen from around 500 million e-mail addresses. at the moment, holt security are not revealing in particular which websites have been

welcome back. earlier in the show we told you about yesterday's attack at a military base in afghanistan that left 15 coalition troops injured and caused the death of a u.s. army major general, harold green. this shooting is being considered a green on blue attack signaling it was an afghan soldier. over the last six years, 88 of the green on blue attacks caused 143 deaths in afghanistan. and 15% in 2011 of all casualty. and huddle around the water cooler. we don't have a lot of time to get to this kid. we need all the time we can get.
