shot 18-year-old michael brown as soon as today. what a difference 24 hours makes. this was the scene last night in ferguson. cars finally able to drive through the street as demonstrators chanted and marched alongside them. for the first time since protests began there are fewer police and no tear gas, barricades, or tanks. throughout the country supporters of the slain teen held vigils and rallies in cities including portland, chicago, miami, and new york city. jay grey is in ferguson for us now. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. maybe it was the change in strategy and leadership from police on the ground. maybe the calls for into the violence from the governor and president yesterday -- whatever the case, things were much different overnight. for the first time this week, ferguson was calm overnight. by no means quiet.

great. the great lakes. i can't get over the fact you can't get out of the weather pattern since last winter. this is the current temperatures right now in michigan and wisconsin. it is 38 degrees in cadillac, michigan. i imagine some people have to turn their heat on in their houses at 38 degrees. it's been a chilly summer through the great lakes following a brutally cold winter. it's not what we call fair. hopefully you'll get a warm winter out of it. there are mild warm temperatures now moving into the midwest. those will head to the great lakes this weekend. it's not going to be a long period of very chilly weather in the great lakes. it is especially this morning. even in the northeast, it feels like fall. it's unusually low humidity all the way into the southeast. i mean, it leads for great afternoons. as far as the wet weather, traveling through southern minnesota areas around sioux city, iowa, all the way toward areas around rapid city, south dakota you'll deal with rain and showers today along with kansas
