a new video emerged of a domestic violence incident. the security footage obtained by tmz sports shows an altercation between rice and his then fiancee in an elevator. rice appears to hit his fiance powerfully knocking her off her feet straight to the floor. rice previously was suspended for two games over a separate video of the same incident released earlier this year. it fwhaz this video that he is seen dragging his future wife's unconscious body from the elevator. here's how head coach john harbaugh reacted when rice was initially suspended and then again last night after the new full video footage surfaced. >> it's really not, it's not a big deal it's just part of the process. we said from the beginning that the circumstances will determine the consequences. there are consequences when you maek a mistake like that. i stand behind ray. he is a heck of a guy. he's done everything right since. he makes a mistake. all right? he has to pay a consequence. i think that's good for kids to understand it works that way. that's how it works.
2:32 am
that's how it should be. and we'll move forward and the next guy will have to step up and then ray will be back, you know, when the time comes. so it's not something that we're dwelling on as you say, we're not worrying about. we're moving forward. >> i have nothing but hope and good will foray and jenay and we'll do whatever we can going forward to help them, you know, as they go forward. it's something we saw for the first time today, you know, all of us. and it changed things, of course. you know, it made things a little bit different. >> so many including players past and present believe the initial two game suspension was too lenient, especially compared to other punishments for nonviolent infractions. even president obama weighed in last night with a white house statement reading, "the president is the father of two daughters. and like any american, he believes that domestic violence is connecticut temptable and unacceptable in a civilized society. hitting a woman is not something

a real man does. and that is true whether or not an act of violence happens in the public eye or far too often behind closed doors. stopping domestic violence is something that's bigger than football and all of us have a responsibility to put a stop to it. now rice had three years worth of $10 million left on his contract and his jerseys, they reportedly been pulled from the mainlior supporting goods stores like models and dicks. one of the major questions now deals with when the nfl learned about the full video. now the league released a statement reading, "we requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident including the video from inside the elevator. that video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until it was released by tmz. but this morning the website tmz sports reporting no one from the nfl ever asked the hotel and casino for video inside the elevator writing, "multiple sources tell tmz sports cat seen yoe made a copy of the elevator sports video for police and
2:34 am
we're told that rice's lawyer had a copy of the video which he got in the criminal case. and here is the tmz managing editor last night. >> i have gotten conflicting stories on this and we have some people saying they saw this. but i now believe they actually turned the blind eye to it. and it's a shameful story. that the nfl knew that this surveillance video existed. >> so we should point out this is tmz's reporting. nbc news has not independently confirmed these claims. this does bring us to our twitter question for you this morning. what are your thoughts? do you believe the nfl and ravens didn't see the full video until it was released by tmz? had no clue about it? tweet us your thoughts using the #waytooearly. coming up in a few hours, president obama will meet with congressional leaders from both parties as he begins to lay out his plan to defeat islamic state militants in iraq and syria.
2:35 am
defense officials say the plans may include expanded air strikes to reclaim territory that isisi seized in iraq and president obama is expected to tell americans wednesday that it will likely take years to destroy the group. administration officials are scheduled to give classified briefings to the entire house and senate wednesday and thursday about president obama's plans. the white house hopes the speech and briefings will make lawmakers buy in to the president's strategy. but press secretary josh earnest hedged on answering whether buy in means president obama will seek congressional approval or not. >> the president has the direct question. he didn't give a direct answer either. yes or no? >> i don't know. i covered him for years. i don't know what you mean by a congressional buy in. buy in seems to me would imply a vote of some kind. a vote on appropriations or authorization or a sense of the congress resolution, some kind of a vote s that what you want from congress? a vote on this?
2:36 am
yes or no? >> again, if you want to get insight into the president's current thinking about this, then i would refer to the answer he gave to chuck in the interview 48 hours ago. but the other thing that i would point out that is also part of your question is if the president decides to expand the operation and these are the kinds of questions that are best answered after the president made fundamental decisions about what he wants to do there. >> meanwhile, secretary of state john kerry is heading to the middle east to build an international coalition dedicated to defeating isis. more than 40 countries are already onboard. and new "washington post"/abc news polling shows 71% of americans support air strikes in iraq. that's up 26 points since june. and nearly two thirds are in favor of air strikes in syria. close to 60% support giving arms and ammunition to kurdish forces who are battling isis. the poll says that 56%
