thank the fans. isis and the fbi is learning more about the number of americans believed to be fighting alongside terrorists. more than 100 americans, only 12 americans are actually fighting in the region. the fbi sais saying it knows th identity of the man seen in isis videos beheading two journalists and a british aid worker. his name has not been elised. and david cameron is expected to win approval to join u.s.-led air strikes in iraq. those u.s.-led air strikes continue in isis controlled area of the iraq and syria. military leaders say several oil refineries have been crippled in the strike and more in the next few days. more from correspondent richard

engel from the syrian border and nbc's bill neely in northern iraq. >> reporter: an alleged isis oil refinery destroyed by an american air strike. one of at least 41 bombings in syria in 24 hour, but isis isn't stopping. a website backing the group released video claiming to show isis fighters firing heavy weapons at the syrian town of qabani. it's home to 400,000 kurds. in qabani falls it will be a humanitarian disaster. these refugees from qabani are determined not to let that happen. these men decided now is the time to fise is while the u.s. is carrying out isis they want to be the boots on the ground and many don't expect to survive. the u.s. has been looking for ground partners in this war. these men encouraged by u.s. action are taking action to defend their own country. richard engel, nbc news, on the

that means it is friday. >> happy friday. thanks for having me, betty. >> absolutely. talk about attorney general eric holder stepping down. why quit now? >> you know, i think that the political times is perhaps one of the reasons. s as you know, attorney general holder is someone who has taken a lot of political heat from scandal after scandal after scandal from republicans, but if the president does put up someone now they could have a replacement during the lame duck and while still control of the senate, control of that, is up in the air. that could change. could be tougher to get him through if they wait until january when republicans have control. >> a tough battle to fill the seat? we're hearing two top candidates have said, no. i don't want it. >> you know, i thought, i think deval patrick who stepped down. deval patrick was coming to washington. we were putting two and two

together. he says he's out. you know, i think people like kamala harris as well as others, janet napolitano, two that jump to the top of the short list. you know, when you look at the scandals, "fast and furious," "operation chokepoint" and "operation ferguson" that they're investigating, a high-profile position and maybe not a job that many people would want. >> yeah, and then looking until after the mid-terms to start getting into this. how's that going to affect everything? >> you know, that's a really good question, betty, because if they do wait until after the mid-terms and republicans have control of the upper chamber, that's going to make it a little bit more difficult for president obama to get the nominee through that he wants. so there is an argument to be made for trying to push this through in the lame duck session, but yesterday folks like senator ted cruz already saying publicly to the administration, do not put this through during a lame duck
