this is "way too early." [ music playing ] good morning, i'm thomas roberts. it is wednesday, october 8th. it is about to call. a big thanks, to mike g and a phone toss there. a great success. thank you, thank you, much appreciated. we start things off. we will talk about what's going on currently. in washington, in a few hours, president obama will meet with national security officials about the threat from the islamic state militants. it comes as turkey warns the syrian city kobani is about to fall to isis. if this happens, they would control a large area of the turkish syrian border. look at the map there. they are engaged in heavy fighting with the islamic state

militants. the city is seeing the most extensive airstrikes yet. the strikes have done little to deter isis. meanwhile, u.s. officials say they are outraged, turkey is refusing to commit to military involvement and turkey's inaction led to heated demonstrations across the country. 14 people are dead after clashes between the police and protesters t. white house is bracing canada, they will join support and fbi is asking to identify a member from isis who may be from the u.s. he speaks with what is described as a north american accent. viking's running back adrian petersen will face a judge. a spokes woman says the football star will definitely plead not guilty to charges of reckless or neglect injury to a child. sources tell nbc sports the defense will push for a speedy

trial t. goal is for a trial to start december 1st. peterson's defense team wants the case resolved as soon as possible. meanwhile the minneapolis star "trib" reports money raised by his charity and one of its credit card paid for a hotel room used for an alleged orgy. peterson listed a series of disputes adding on twitter, quote, never let the truth get in the way of a good story. obviously, more to come in the way from that one for sure. another decision on marriage equality t. ninth circuit court of appeals struck down bans in idaho and nampblths ruling gay rights were violated and the supreme court declined to take up the issue on a national level effectively granting marriage equality rights to couples in some 30 states. because the 9th circuit covers alaska, montana and arizona, the

number of states that will soon have marriage ekwaelt quality is up to 35. democratic senator mark prior is responding to fallout for failing to answer a question about ebola outbreak. he accused his opponent of voting against legislation that will protect americans. they asked prior if president obama was doing enough. >> reporter: do you think the obama administration has do you know good job handling the ebola crisis? >> umm, i would say that it's hard to know because i haven't heard the latest briefing on that. i'm reading the paper and all. but my impression is we have people over there both from cdc and other medical-type people and even some engineers to try to build, you know, medical facilities. that's what they need over there

they need the medical infrastructu infrastructure. again, i'd have to see the latest numbers. >> okay. so you saw that. this morning we have her response from the senator t. statement says, quote, i've given better answers to tougher questions, but the fact is we've got to do everything possible to prevent an outbreak here at home. >> that starts with containing the diseases spread in western africa and our military and airport screening things are the right thing to do. what's not right, however, to vote against adequate funding for the center for disease center for control. which congressman cotton has done. a poll shows cotton with a 4% lead over senator prior. michael bloomberg is looking to make his mark in the mid-term elections. the new york times reports the former mayor will use his resources to help elect candidates who represent

centrist ideals. charlie baker is running for governor in massachusetts. bloomberg's effort will also back a gun referendum in washington state and a push for primaries in oregon. listen to this, twitter is suing the fbi and the department of justice to public the number of times the government requested user information. the social media site claims it's entitled to release that information under the first amendment. the government settled with google, microsoft and other tech companies if january agreeing to set back some disclosure rules. critics accuse twitter of using the lawsuit to drum up public good will. we want to talk business and stock futures. they are looking up this morning after yesterday's deep dive, concerns over the economy gave it its worst day since july. what are investors watching today? we are joined by steve in

london. it has to do with the bad economic fuse from europe. with yesterday being so bad, today everybody has to be a little optimistic. correct? >> not necessarily. what the problem was is there are longer-term issues in europe which are beginning to drag everyone down now. at the spite the fact the dow is doing well with european markets. overall the german outlook is pretty awkward as well. the imf is confirming as well that euro zone is pretty much non-existent. the u.s. did well. u.k. is doing well. europe is doing well. the fomc meeting, we had the owner of kfc doing badly in china, lowering its estimate there as well. plenty of physicals to come out ahead. elsewhere, time geithner is back up in front of judges and attorneys in the this court case, where morris greenberg the former ceo, wanting $40 billion

in damage. he was instrumental in the fact that a 12% interest rate was attached to federal loans to aig. they put a time limit on that and the attorney for morris greenberg and the claimants was pretty aggressive in its questions to mr. geithner. >> that's one to watch with that powerful ruffle with the three aig guys. cnbc has this new survey, things people are willing to sacrifice to be able to afford new tech. so what are the things they will give up to get the new iphone or samsung product? >> pretty much everything, actually, travel, food, health care. >> children's college? >> well, that may be as well. they can get a loan. but health care, which is such a battleground stateside the last couple years under president obama, these things will be cut back by nearly half of americans, 48% of respondents in this cnbc survey said they would

give up those things to afford their key technology the two groups who will skim, apparently women between the ages of 18 and 49 and those earning incomes between 50 and $75,000. and the real item, of course, as you alluded to there, they want to hang on to and pay the bills most on time for was their cell phones. >> it's interesting about priorities. very interesting. great to see you. we are following these disturbing new revelations coming out. there are reports about the actor who played the father and the pastor on the popular tv serious "7th heaven." they are investigating a complaint in which the woman accused the actor steven collins of molesting her more than four decades ago when she was 14 years old a. statement comes after tmz released what it claims is audio of the 67-year-old actor kwon fessing to child molestation. >> that audio has not been independently verified by nbc. two cable networks have nixed plans to reair reruns and the

chat. our next guest the object of the affection of lindsay lohan in "mean girls." this season he's a contestant on "dancing with the stars." is he going to answer? jonathan bennett are you there? >> i am. >> so there is way too late for you. you are in los angeles, correct? >> right. that's what i say, it depends on how you look at it. in my early 20s, i'd be like way too late. but now that everything is painful upon the me from dnsing and i'm getting older, it's way too early. >> should you be up practicing? right now you have made it through the fourth week of "dancing with the stars." this was the best week of your life. you do homage to "mean girls." a lot of people may not know you lost. this was a dance where you put your heart on your sleeve and you survived. so what's it like in the moments after the show when the stars are all tallied up. what's it like for you?

>> i tell you. this week was a tough week the judges were pretty harsh on us this week. i missed a couple steps during dance but we kind of got almost, it was a tough week for us. i think watching the package of like watching everything play right before you dance definitely affects you. so going forward, you have to remember like don't pay attention to the screen. bus they put pictures of your parents up right before you dance, it, you know, it definitely affects your dancing, but it's still, they had good notes and the stuff they talked about definitely like things i need to work on. so it was, some of it was justified in that i'm excited to take that to next week and go dance. >> you live to dance another

day. this was an homage to "mean girls." are you surprised when we think about that film, it was 2004. there is you and lindsay on screen. you were the erin samuels character. we saw erin an drus call you aaron post-dance the other night just as a joke. but the girls in this film with you, they have all been on to great successful careers. it's pretty amazing when we think about the characters you have played in this role with. are you still pulled dis with some of these actresses? >> oh, yeah, the girl that plays gretch isn't a good friend of mine. we just did another movie last year. like we have done five movies together over the past ten years. by chance we end up randomly getting cast in films together. we stayed pretty close. she is fantastic. >> gretchen weeners. >> yeah.
