with ebola, inside the united states. another put in quarantine as a precaution. nbc's jay gray reports. >> reporter: last week she was part of the medical team treating the first patient diagnosed with ebola in the u.s. she's back inside texas health presbyterian hospital, in isolation, now fighting the deadly disease herself. >> it's deeply concerning that this infection occurred. >> reporter: a review from the centers for disease control blames a paraphernalia in hospital protocol for the infection. officials won't release her name but do say the woman had extensive contact with thomas eric duncan before his december, including when he was placed on dialysis and a ventilator as his condition got worse and he became more infeshts. officials say she wore a protective suit at that time but experts warn problems can occur after treatment when that suit is removed. >> you might have fluids on your equipment, you might have infectious stuff on your hands. getting it off effectively

without contaminating yourself is hard. >> reporter: hazmat teams are preparing to decontaminate her apartment as city leaders, including the dallas mayor -- >> hey, guys. >> reporter: go door to door in the woman's community to reassure neighbors. >> while this is obviously bad news, it is not news that should bring about panic. >> reporter: though it has brought about a stepped-up presence from the cdc. jay gray, nbc news, dallas. at u.s. airports fever screenings will expand this week. look for them at washington dulles, newark, o'hare and hartsfield-jackson in atlanta. they come after an initial run saturday at new york's jfk. and in liberia a nervous development. nurses inside the outbreak zone are threatening to strike. they want danger pay. nurses want $700 more a month. that's on top of the $300 they get now. in the middle east, a desperate plea for outside help. isis militants are threatening

full control of baghdad. >> reporter: but deadly bombings killed dozens last weekend and the joint chiefs revealed isis came within 15 miles of taking control of the airport. u.s. apache helicopters went in and stopped them. >> they overrun the iraqi unit. it was a straight shot to the airport. so we're not going to allow that to happen. >> reporter: critics say the president needs a new strategy. >> they're winning and we're not. >> reporter: too slow, not enough fight, says president obama's former defense secretary. >> i don't mind presidents who have the quality of a law professor in looking at the issues and determining just exactly what needs to be done. but presidents need to also have the heart of a warrior. that's the way you get things done. >> reporter: the administration is urging patience, saying this effort to defeat isis will take time. >> people need to understand they're going to be good days, bad days, victories and setbacks as the iraqis themselves take this fight to isil.

>> reporter: and new this morning we're learning turkey is now going to let the u.s. use its air bases as a base for launching those air strikes both in iraq and syria. >> possibly the start of more action from turkey. we'll see. tracie potts in washington, d.c., thank you. to missouri, where protesters are promising more civil disobedience on this final day of organized protests. >> get back! get back! get back! >> reporter: just two hours ago, a police officer ordering protesters to get back as hundreds of them marched towards st. louis university. police in riot gear banging their night sticks on the ground and blocking the entrance to the campus. hours earlier, 1,800 people gathered for an interfaith service at the university. there were more than a dozen arrests during weekend demonstrations in the neighboring cities of ferguson and st. louis. police say at one point, protesters threw rocks at them, charges that organizers say are simply false. the st. louis police chief says police do not have body cameras but will continue to use

and the few weeks left, notable absence from the campaign trail here. somebody by the name of president barack obama. you've got to consider here in some key races especially when it comes to senate democrats, new hampshire, the race there, jeanne shaheen distancing herself, talking about the race in kentucky, grimes saying, you know what, i wouldn't say i voted for him in the past elections. is that deliberate strategy here for these democrats? distance themselves to keep control of the senate? >> you know, the name obama's a pretty big liability on the trail right now. he's very unpopular, particularly in these states that are up for grabs. even michelle obama has been mostly absent. she's hugely popular but mostly absent from the trail because even she, her last name's obama, that's a liability in these really, really tight races that are a toss-up with one or two points separating candidates. >> especially at a crucial time in the last weeks remaining. let's talk about the ad we just
