and was put into isolation. another individual who had contact with her is also being monitored. officials say the infected worker wore a protective suit and they're investigating how this breach may have occurred. >> we don't know what occurred in the care of the index patient, the original patient in dallas. but at some point there was a breach in protocol. and that breach in protocol resulted in this infection. it is possible that other individuals were exposed. we know that this individual did provide care to the index patient on multiple occasions. and that care included extensive contact. >> okay, so here is also a concern. the woman has a dog. however, unlike that recent case in spain we've covered, this pet will be kept safe and not euthanized. meanwhile, the nation's largest nurse's union is criticizing hospitals for not being fully

prepared to treat ebola virus or educating their employees about it. in west africa a businessman is being praised for helping one district in sierra leone remain ebola-free by limiting travel. the plan includes requiring residents to vouch for potential visitors and guards taking temperatures at checkpoints. a top official at the national institutes of health however warns isolation could increase the problem. >> when you look at what happens when you isolate a country, you diminish greatly their ability to handle their own epidemic. if that happens, it very likely will spread to other african countries and the best way to protect americans is to completely suppress the epidemic in west africa. if we do that, we wouldn't be talking about this today. so to isolate them maybe with good intentions, actually can be counterproductive and make things worse. now we want did give you an update where there appears to be positive developments in the the fight against islamic state militants in iraq and syria.

turkey, which has faced growing criticism for not being more involved in this conflict, will now allow the u.s. to conduct air strikes from its air bases, one of which is about 100 miles from the syrian bored arer. kurdish fighters have reportedly pushed back against isis. the u.s.-led coalition carried out at least three air strikes over the weekend. and an isis location and staging position were destroyed. national security adviser susan rice is warning this campaign will take time but has seen several gains so far. some lawmakers see things differently. >> your campaign is off to a strong start. we've seen very important successes in places like mosul dam, sinjar mountain where they were able to rescue test of thousands of civilians at risk. this is going to take time and the american people need to understand our aim here is a long-term degradation and building the capacity of our partners. >> they're winning and we're not. and the iraqis are not winning.

the peshmerga, the kurds are not winning. and there's a lot of aspects of this. but there has to be a fundamental re-evaluation of what we're doing because we are not -- we are not degrading and ultimately destroying isis. isis is claiming responsibility for a triple suicide bombing in iraq that left nearly 60 people dead. officials say it's a huge setback for iraqi security forces fighting the militants. the police chief of anbar province was killed in a separate attack. back here at home, police are bracing for more protests in st. louis today after what was dubbed a weekend of resistance to mark two months since a police officer shot and killed an unarmed black teen. protesters are calling today moral monday and say they've planned several instances of civil advertise obedience. at least 17 were arrested on sunday morning following clashes with riot police at a convenience store where another black teen was killed by an off-duty police officer last weekend. police say demonstrators tried to storm the building and threw

rocks at officers, but the protesters say this was a peaceful sit-in. otherwise protests remained peaceful throughout the weekend in other areas and thousands took part in these demonstrations across ferguson as well as st. louis and the area to protest the shooting of 18-year-old michael brown that took place in august. and they are still demanding charges in the investigation against the officer. a grand jury is still deciding whether charges will come. seven teens are facing criminal charges in what's being called the brutal hazing and sexual assault of fellow athletes on a new jersey high school football team. three charged face sex crime charges for hazing that allegedly took place over the course of ten days in september at sayerville war memorial high. at least one parent described players holding down and assaulting victims in the boys' locker room while others guarded the door. the allegations were so bad the district canceled the high school football season over the objections of those parents. late last week this move true raw emotions in front of a

in a head-to-head matchup with mitt romney, romney leads by 1 point. romney's former running mate paul ryan is trailing by 1 point. 3 points separate clinton and rand paul. and she is 5 points ahead of new jersey governor chris christie. iowa has not always been that kind to hillary clinton. she limped into third place in iowa during the presidential race back in 2008. even ahead of the caucuses, iowa is already the center of the political universe. the same poll shows republican joni ernest and bradley a point apart. both are bringing in big names. mitt romney drawing major crowds this weekend for ernest. while the first lady campaigned alongside ernest's democratic opponent she struggled to properly remember bradley's name. >> we need to elect leaders like bruce bailey who will do the same. leaders like bruce bailey.

the best. steve sedgwick joins us live from london. last week we watched ups and downs of the dow. the average gains for the year were wiped out. what are you looking for this week? >> yeah, it's very interesting. got the earnings season, a lot of financials will be reporting. not today. columbus day, million day, no economic releases no bond market which is interesting as well. what the legacy is, though, the europeans have just turned around some of the market moves. the asians were down despite very good trade figures out of china. europe is trading around the flat lines. a much better start to the week than we feared a couple of hours ago where the futures were looking negative. we have had volatile till. the s&p, the s&p 500 index, take a look at the 1905 level. it closed 1906. i'm told 1905 is a very important technical level as well. but of course a lot of concern about europe as well. that has been driving these markets down over the last week or so. good news on gas prices. they've fallen for 16 weeks now. as compared with three weeks ago, gas prices, regular prices

are 12 cents lower than they were three weeks ago at $3.26. if you're in san francisco, still very expensive, $3.66 your average price. in oklahoma you're celebrating, $2.93. >> that's really great. 16 weeks to watch that trend over the summertime is really amazing. steve, let's talk about this. the experiment that is taking on twitter and a french bank. explain that one. >> look, everybody is looking at what's called end payments. this is transferring money person to person, business to business, without the hassle of knowing all the bank details and all the et cetera. what now this french bank is doing, bpce, owner of the second-largest bank, they and twitter are setting up something which will be unveiled tomorrow at a paris news conference where by tweet alone you can send money person to person. >> wow. >> they're not the only ones trying to do this. facebook's trying to do it, google's trying to do something. all the banks on this side of the pond are looking at various
