i don't think i could face him yet. i want to be able to say all right, i'm doing okay before i actually talk to him. otherwise, i'd feel totally ashamed of myself. >> anthony has been on the streets for ten months, two of those in jacksonville. >> this is the front lobby to the salvation army. welcome to a homeless feeding line. >> i've been homeless. >> okay. came down here with a friend of mine. we're broke. we're homeless. my home boys are locked up. four months i've been here, though. >> bam is originally from houston. he says he has an older sister, but they have lost contact. >> it gets to me sometimes where i don't want to be on the street because i know i ain't got nobody. that's what everybody's looking for, someone they can have out here that's going to stick by their side. >> i worry about my child now, you know, child comes before me. >> 19-year-old teanna is five months pregnant.

she and her mother carla have been on the streets for three weeks. they lost their home because of carla's drug use. >> my mom was on crack. rent was due. she wasn't worried about that. >> she and her mother moved to jacksonville 3 1/2 years ago. teanna was desperate to get out of her mother's house. >> that house is hot, first of all. polices are always in that neighborhood watching that house. i didn't smoke the crack. i didn't want to go to jail. i wanted out of that environment, you know, because i couldn't handle it. so i met this guy at the grocery store. i was thinking about using him, getting out of that house, going to live with him, whatever. well, it didn't work that way. i ended up falling in love with him. >> teanna is due to have her baby in four months and says the father are no longer in contact, despite running away before, she says she is rebuilding their relationship now that carla claims she isn't smoking crack

anymore. >> she's not heavily on drugs like she was before. >> teanna says her priority is finding a place to live before she gives birth. >> i want to be in a house, i want to be somewhere where i know i can just stay, not have to get up and leave because we might get in trouble for being there. have a place for my baby to sleep. >> grew up here in jacksonville. i've been out here for two weeks tomorrow. >> josh says he was raised in a religious home and began to rebel at an early age. >> i started smoking pot when i was 13. from there i moved on to coke. a few months down the road, i was actually dealing. >> two weeks ago, josh says his father, who was training to become a southern baptist preacher confronted him about his drug use. >> the second week of january, i came home really high. my dad asked me, are you high. i was like, hell, yeah, i'm high. that's when they put me out. so it sunk in, wow, you actually

are homeless now. >> when contacted, josh's father refused to verify the events that left josh on the streets. josh says he regrets everything he's put his family through and is desperate to make up for his mistakes. >> my parents want to see me do something to prove to them that i'm not leading a double life still. you can only get so many chances before that's it. >> there is safety in numbers on the streets especially at night. josh must surround himself with people that can protect him and teach him how to survive. >> i am pretty green at this but i am learning. but it's one of those things if you ain't got the experience, you're pretty much road kill. >> next stop is central station. >> anthony heads to his sleeping spot across the river from downtown. he's been there for two weeks. >> i sleep in a building that's under construction, out of the way, up on the second floor.

i got a bunch of little onesies. >> teanna does not have regular prenatal care. she had a sonogram at a local hospital and found out she's having a girl. teanna refuses to go into a shelter because men and women are not allowed to sleep in the same quarters and teanna does not want to be separated from bam. when she delivers, she risks having her baby placed in foster care if she is found to be an unfit mother. 18-year-old runaway and jacksonville native josh has been on the streets for two weeks. before leaving home, he says his father gave him one last piece of advice. >> the last thing my dad told me was, he said if you want to try to repair what damage you've done, go to trinity because they've got a program where you can detox. i went to trinity rescue mission. >> trinity rescue mission helps people who are addicted to drugs

or alcohol. while there, josh began making friends. >> me and logan trained together in the program and both left at the same time. we've kind of slept together, watched out for each other. >> going to salvation army, get something to eat. >> this is their daily routine. after spending the day at the library, josh and his friends head to salvation army to eat dinner. with the help of those around him, josh is beginning to learn the realities of surviving on the streets. >> i am sort of new at this and it has been kind of a shock to me and it's one of those things that i'm learning firsthand as i go along. >> it's 117 apiece, plus -- >> anthony and james have just finished talking to the manager of the st. james inn. he won't allow them to share a room. >> getting frustrated. that's what it is. about getting something. >> the manager is willing to

19-year-old run away teanna, who's five months pregnant, has almost decided on a name for her baby girl. >> i think i'm going to choose adrianna or tatiana rose marie. i'm stuck between those two names. >> teanna's on her feet most of the day. it is hard on her this far into her pregnancy. >> when i get to walking really fast, it starts hurting real bad. everybody tells me i need to settle down on walking because it could put me in labor early. >> teanna says the baby has been kicking a lot and gives her peace of mind. >> she's been moving around a lot, though. i know she's okay.

bam stands by her booth, but he isn't there long enough to make any money. the attendant is on her way back. >> i thought she was going to be gone longer than this break. boy, let me tell you, i'll make a killing on this. >> bam vows to return later tonight after the attendant goes off duty. he and the group head to hemming plaza. bam says that letting go of life on the streets won't come easy for him. >> once you get used to it and you're in it, you're making money, it's hard to just walk out. it's kind of in you. you all right? >> but bam says he will do whatever it takes to make his relationship with teanna work. >> i'm going to try my best to stick this out with her and see what happens. >> she and her soon to be born baby and her mother carla are the closest thing bam has to a family. >> i got to go to work and work that six days a week and do

22-year-old runaway bam has vowed to stick by his girlfriend

teanna even though he is not the father of her baby. but teanna, who is five months pregnant says she is tired of bam's empty promises. >> bam said he was going to have me out on the streets a long time ago, weeks ago. if he's a real man, he'll go out and get a job like a real man should. and grow up, be mature. >> teanna looks for the baby clothes given to her in the park. the clock is ticking for teanna. she could lose custody of her baby if she's deemed an unfit mother. >> now i'm taking a chance of losing my kid. that's hanging over my head, you know, i want this kid. it's just the thought of losing it that scares me. because it is part of me, it's my blood, it's my baby. >> teanna is too far along in her pregnancy to get a job. she's relying on the others in her group to get her off the streets. she says bam and her mother have been talking about doing day labor to be able to afford a

place. >> they were talking i guess, my mom and bam, if they work from monday to friday to earn enough money, we can get into a place. just watch and see what happens. >> teanna has not made any effort to get off the streets to ensure her baby will not be taken from her. she says as a last resort, she will reach out to family members in indiana to see if anyone will take her in before her baby is due. 21-year-old runaway anthony is taking steps to leave jacksonville. he's looking into a government-run program called job corps that gives at-risk youths transitional housing and vocational training. >> getting set up in job corps to see if i can get off the streets, get a helping hand and get back in the job force. i just went to orientation today.

my goal is to just become a, i guess, a typical member of society. working every day, living, contributing back to society. >> for now, anthony remains the leader of the group that sleeps in the abandoned hospital. he says it will be difficult to leave his friends behind. >> i know everybody that stays there. so i've got a soft spot for everybody. i want to see them get out of the same situation that i'm trying to. >> anthony is optimistic about his future. >> i'm going to look back on this as a good learning experience because it's a very humbling experience. >> if anthony is accepted into the job corps program, he will be assigned to a school in kentucky. >> in the end, i know everything will work out somehow, some way. it's just going to happen. >> a few days later, anthony and 18-year-old runaway, josh, head

to the job corps office in downtown jacksonville. anthony has been talking to josh about the program. >> do they have a pamphlet with different jobs in it? >> i'm pretty sure. i don't know. >> you just know what you wanted? >> i knew i needed to get the hell out of here. >> when they come out, josh says he will attend an orientation session later in the week. >> i'm mainly interested in like the medical field occupations. because i've always wanted to do something with science or health. >> josh calls home every sunday after his family gets home from church. >> every time i call them, it's a little bit less formal and a little more familiar. so i really do think i'll eventually get, it may not be back the way we were before i left, but to the point where i can be involved in their lives again. >> josh says he has renewed faith in god.

on the disposable video camera the production team gave him, he said he tries to stick to his morals even while out on the streets. >> it's like the bible says, if you train up a child in the way he should go, he will not depart from it when he is a man. and honestly, i can be an example of that because my parents raised me right in a godly way. and because of that, i'm stronger for it because you know what, even though i'm here on the streets, i'm doing my best now to live up to the way my parents raised me. >> 24-year-old rodney has moved out of his friend's apartment and into a homeless shelter. >> i left the place i was staying at because i didn't like the environment. >> he's also quit doing day labor. he has a new job paying him a good hourly wage. >> i now have a job working for a company that does work on maxwell house. call it what you will, but i get paid $15.80. who cares. >> he plans to work a full day from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and go to school at night. >> i'm starting school on march
