good morning, everybody. right now on "first look," good. news on the ebola front to report along with a pentagon strike force being assembled to fight the deadly virus. another major nfl record is shattered with this pass by peyton manning. a heart pounding rescue as a dad is pulled from a home. good morning, and thanks for joining us. we have fast-moving developments on the u.s. effort to contain ebola. first, a new strategy to fight isis militants near the syrian border town. the u.s. military conducted an air drop of weapons, ammunition of and medical supplies saturday night. the materials were provided by

kurdish authorities in iraq. this air drop is the first of its kind and comes after weeks of air strikes. there weather it helps or not could jeopardize relations. the turkish president said yesterday he would oppose any u.s. arms transfers to kurdish fighters. right now breaking overnight, the ebola quarantine is over. those who cared for thomas duncan is over. the team able to jump into action on 72-hour's notice. tracie potts is live in washington for us. any specifics on how this team is being trained? >> they are going to train down in san antonio and their job is going to be, as you said, very quickly get on the ground any time an ebola case is diagnosed right here in the u.s.

>> reporter: 20 critical care nurses, 5 doctors and 5 infectious disease efforts will be suiting up, training in a texas army base to respond within hours to any ebola case in the u.s. >> have you traveled in the country in the last couple months? >> reporter: today hospitals are preparing for new guidelines from the cdc how to care for ebola patients. >> one is complete covering with no skin showing whatsoever. >> reporter: there's still debate over whether the obama administration should ban travelers from west africa. >> we should not be having commercial airline flights up to 150 people every day coming to the u.s. >> reporter: there's criticism of president obama's new ebola czar, a white house insider, not a doctor. >> we don't need another white house political operative. >> you don't need to be a health care person.

you need to be somebody who is a good organizer. >> the next individual who is a lobbyist and a political hack to head up the ebola crisis in this country, it doesn't give americans confidence. >> lawmakers are warning against making ebola a political issue because we can never forget we are just now over two weeks away from the election. >> it's coming up on o us fast. thank you for that. just this morning, new images of nina pham's dog. he's still under quarantine. he will be tested for ebola just in case. u.s. stores hand sanitizers are a popular item. ebola jitters is causing sales to jump 9% over the last few weeks alone. and they are ramping up screenings.

joining me is is doctor nancy. let's talk about the situation now and this s.w.a.t. team that the mt. and members are putting together. the cdc has something very similar. >> the cdc has something similar but the pentagon's response team is much more inclusive meaning there's doctors, there's nurses, there's administrators and they will be the team that respond to any of the 5,000 acute hospitals in this country if needed. >> is the pentagon the right agency? >> they are the right agency in terms of coordination. it's about oord nation. the same with ron clain being the head of the ebola crisis. it's about coordination. there are many bright medical lines behind all this had. the cdc, nih, but we need homeland security and department of defense. someone has to coordinate all

that. >> we have learned that thomas eric duncan's family have been cleared from the quarantine. we haven't heard a lot about the two nurses infected with ebola. what do yes know about their treatment right now? >> both of them are in stable condition. they are receiving supportive therapy. remember, this is a virus. there's no known treatment for the virus. we're hoping that the antibodies they received in the plasma transfer will be effective to help them, but it's support i-therapy, meaning intravenous fluids, monitoring of their heart rate, this is all being done at the these centers chof there are four or five designated throughout the united states. >> where are we right now with an ebola drug? we heard about zmap. what's the holdup? is it money? >> i think depending on who you

tropical storm anna has moved past hawaii, but that did not keep surfers from taking advantage of the big waves caused by the passing storm. the state has dodged a bullet yet again. thankfully they did. pfs looking bad for a minute. bill karins has a look at what was threatening. >> it's very weird for hawaii. >> everyone on the island should buy a lottery ticket. they are lucky people. >> it did rain, but they avoided the winds and heavy rainfall hasn't caused too many problems. honolulu, five inches of rain is a big deal. the higher peaks get it, but the storms are moving away. a little bit of rain this morning and we'll clear out for the afternoon.

to determine whether remains found on saturday are that of the missing uva student. the location is eight miles from where graham was last seen more than a month ago. serena williams is competing in the wta finals this week. he's firing back for comments that referred to her as one of the williams brothers and also called her scary. williams called the comments, quote, very unsensitive, and very sexist and racist. he apologized but only after being fined $25,000 by the bta. he's also the head of the russian tennis federation and banned from tour involvement for a year. before we go to our next story, we have to warn you. the video you're about to see is graphic. in china, two pedestrians are just lucky to be alive after that right there. they were waiting to cross the

street when this ambulance ran a red light, hit the tail end of a car and that caused a car to crash into those pedestrians. they suffered several fractures. the driver, this is what's so fascinating, was fined equivalent to just 3 $33 for that accident. he got 6 points on his license. i guess that makes up for it. this is an overhead view of a woman stuck in a chimney. she had to be rescued by firefighters. the homeowner was away this weekend and this is where this gets a little creepy. he met her online but told her he was no longer interested after he met her in person a couple times. >> there wasn't too many red flags to let her know i wasn't interested. even having her by my property at all. i guess she tried to pay me a visit through my chimney.

>> it's a bit of a hard sell right now. republicans have one idea that people like which is this travel ban over ebola. so with two-thirds of the country backing the other side, it's hard to say this is a bad idea. even if the democrats are struggling to make the case that it is a bad idea. >> we're weeking away from midterms. is ebola the main issue when it comes to politics? >> it's going to be huge. if it's anymore contractions of the disease, it's going to be even fresher in people's minds as they are sitting in the ballot box. >> the president has been tallying this theme of hope and change. is that something he can still sell at this time? >> i think the people he sold it to originally, hard line democrats are struggling to feel engaged in the political process. polls are saying not as many democrats are voting. >> a lot of people just as the
