conference by rejecting language on gays and divorced catholics, but it's the progressive folk who gets the last word. and courage under fire. the big question, would you run into a burning building to save a stranger? we begin a new week with a new hero. this is "way too early." hey, everybody, hope you had a great weekend. i'm thomas roberts. welcome to "way too early," the show that has not decided what to be for halloween, but we bought two christmas ornaments this weekend. while you're out shopping for halloween, did you notice all the christmas stuff that's up? it's kind of weird and depressing. so this gang has not been out shopping this weekend. we want to get right to the top of the news this morning. we're talking about what's going on with the midterms. democrats and republicans are currently jockeying for

position. with just the congress at stake, the white house as well from now there's a lot going on. according to abc news "washington post" new poll, the picture is clear among democrats. hillary clinton leads all over names tested when it comes to the house by more than 50 points. and for the moment, the primary would be hers to lose. mitt romney is ahead of the republican field by 10 points. he's winning with women and voters that identify themselves as very conservative. but look at this. jeb bush is edging out rand paul and mike huckabee. and meanwhile an nbc news poll shows voters prefer a republican-led congress by a five-point spread and they fanned out across the country for both sides. we have former president bill clinton and senator elizabeth warren. they were in arkansas and iowa

over the weekend for democrats. but throughout most of the cycle, president obama he's been noticeably absent. that same "washington post" poll shows why. his approval is upside down everything from the economy to the recent ebola crisis. he was back on the trail yesterday campaigning in maryland and illinois for a gubernatorial candidate. reuters reports some of the crowd left early while the president was still speaking. >> the only thing they said yes to was another massive tax cut for millionaires. i know that's surprising, but that's what happened. so you know who they are fighting for. and it ain't you. it's not you. >> so early voting begins in texas and u.s. supreme court will allow the state now to enforce its law requiring voter i.d. in the upcoming elections.

now the law was struck down by a federal judge arguing that 600,000 voters, many of them african-americans or latino, could be disenfranchised without proper i.d. the united states is entering a new phase this morning in its efforts to defeat islamic state militants. for the first time, the u.s. is resupplying kurdish fighters battling isis nearby the turkish border with syria. they air dropped 27 bundles of supplies including small weapons and ammunition and medical aid. a senior obama administration official says there was an urgent need to resupply the fighters trying to push back the militants. they are seeing some of the heaviest clashes in se days. the u.s.-led coalition has carried out more than 130 airstrikes against isis. back here at home, family members of the lye beern

national who died from ebola are marking an important milestone this morning. three weeks of confinement are now over for thomas eric duncan's fiance and other relatives who had close contact with him. they are no longer considered at risk for the virus. a worker being monitored on a cruise ship is breathing a sigh of relief after testing negative for ebola. meanwhile the pentagon says it is preparing a 30-member quick strike team in case there are more ebola cases diagnosed in the u.s., and it comes as "the new york times" reported over the weekend that president obama is not pleased with how aids initially responded to the crisis. the president announced that ron klain will oversee the federal response. republicans are criticizing this pick. >> the american people are looking for someone with some knowledge and expertise.

he has none in these fields. what creates panic is when people are given information that proves to be false. we need to stop the overcertainties from medical folks. i'm not sure a czar can to that. >> this is a manifestation. we don't need another white house political ob rative. what we need is presidential leadership. >> i don't know ron klain's emergency response experience. maybe the bush/gore recounted. we didn't want somebody to give a spin. we want somebody to give us the facts. >> so one of the nation's top health officials is supporting klain. >> there are health officials, as myself, there are others. you don't need to be a health care person.

you need to be somebody who is a good organizer and his experience is extraordinary. he's been chief of staff to a couple of vice presidents. he has a lot of experience. >> and a new "washington post" poll finds more than two-thirds of americans are in favor of restricting travel to the u.s. from ebola infected countries. police believe they may have found the body of hannah graham. remains were found on saturday outside charlottesville. there's been no conclusive i.d., but police have notified the parents and say the search has turned into a death investigation. the remains were found in the same area a virginia tech student was found in 2009. police have linked the dna to both women. he's been charged in graham's disappearance. king state college in new hampshire is promising to take action for the student who is

took things too far at the pumpkin festival. this year's event saw unprecedented mayhem and destruction. >> reporter: riot police fired pepper spray into unruly crowds of young people after violence erupted in new hampshire starting saturday afternoon and lingering well into predawn hours. >> they started walking on the street with mace, tear gas. >> reporter: authorities say both students and nonstudents from around the region took part in the disturbances overshadowing the pumpkin festival. >> we're all seniors. the past four years have never been like this. it's never been this chaotic. >> reporter: fires were set, vehicles damaged, campus lights toppled, bottles thrown. what officials describe as alcohol-fuelled unrest with 14 arrested. >> they used pieces of fence to

fuel the fire. they were jumping off a pickup truck and body surfing. finally riot police came. >> the school's president says they will identify who was involved and some students may be expelled over the incidents that took place. we shift our attention to business news and news about putting away the credit card for you and pulling out the iphone as apple pay is here. then after another wild week on wall street, are investors are in for more of the same as we start a new week? steve joins us. let's start with the market preview. >> well, we have a lot coming up this week including numbers from apple this evening. we have had a lot of numbers. we are expecting a total increase in earnings from s&p companies. so far out of that two-thirds companies have beaten expectations. we saw a rally on the dow.

it hasn't gone into positive for the territory. home sales, cpi manufacturing, we have new home sales as well. i mentioned the earnings. wednesday, at&t. and amazon and microsoft at the tail end of the week. numbers coming out expecting big sales of iphone products. the latest set of figures plus today they are rolling out apple pay as well. 2 220,000 retailers will accept apple pay. it's not across the whole country. walmart hasn't got the facilities yet. it's only your iphone 6 and 6 plus that can handle this. a lot of retailers haven't got the technology yet. it's coming potentially, but not necessarily across the whole country yet. >> the big thing with this with the apple 6 and 6 plus is the fact with fingerprint i.d. is how this is all going to work.

for some people that's a negative because they are say ing that's going to encourage people out there to somehow rip off your fingerprints to use for fraud. >> but previously they have been able to rip off your pin or check or signature. it's just another way for -- personally i think my fingerprint is more secure than my pin number. >> we'll see how this goes. steve, great to see you. a meeting between bishops and cardinals concluded over the weekend dealing with a setback for those wanting a more inclusive church. homosexuals had gifts and qualities that should be welcomed by the church. the earlier document signalled an open neness to divorced catholics. there was a vote and it was 118-62. bishops still approved this statement though. nonetheless, men and women with

him now strike iing his wife wh was then his fiance in an elevator. they expect to have his appeal heard in the near future. rice was truthful in his original meeting with roger goodell and had access to the video. if the punishment is found as accessive or unfair, rice would have already served his time. the question remains whether or not another nfl franchise would be willing to sign him. we'll see how this all plays out. this really upsetting news about serena williams firing back about comments made by a member of the olympic committee who refer referred to her as one of the williams brothers and called her scary. she called the comments made very insensitive, sexist, racist and bullying. he apologized for his words after being fined $25,000 by wta. as head of the russian tennis
