during the attack. she died last night. three were hospitalized, two in critical condition. and the victim has been identified as zoe. they have not released a motive as to why jaylen fryberg opened fire. jafb moore has the latest. >> reporter: it was a day of prayer for the victims of this last week's school shooting. >> this is going to take time to process. for some it's going to take longer than others. >> it's confusing. a lot of questions aren't answered. >> reporter: police know what happened, but the motivation remains unclear. a fight and a breakup, possible crews. he was popular, a homecoming prince just a week before the deadly rampage. without warning, gun shots echoed through the cafeteria, students were sent running for

negative. and doctor spencer is being treated at bellevue hospital. jay, good morning, what's the potential impact of the quarantine orders? >> reporter: wide-ranging for international aid workers. you talk about dr. craig spencer who was a part that have. his medical team is optimistic about the treatment. while those concerns, not only the questions here, but in other states continue. specialist at bellevue hospital say the first patient, dr. craig spencer, has shown improvement since receiving plasma center nancy writebol who contracted the virus in liberia and now virus free, wrote, to be able to share is a blessing. his fiance who hasn't shown symptoms has been sent home. a police officer is outside their harlem apartment where

she's under a mandatory quarantine. and nancy -- the first health care worker who's return from west africa to a mandatory quarantine. something she said is inhumane because she's not sick. she tested negative for ebola, still new jersey's governor defends the decision to keep her quarantined. >> the people of new jersey are my first and foremost responsibility. to protect their health. >> reporter: a mandatory quarantine is also now in place in new york and illinois. >> this is going to be probably the safest protocol in the country. >> reporter: as concerning questions about how to contain the deadly virus seem to be growing. now, betty, travelers won't be isolated. in florida they will be required to be tested twice a day when they return from west africa.

well, good monday morning to you. weather update. hope you had a wonderful weekend. the weather cooperated in most cases. the big storm in the pacific northwest. almost 100,000 people without power. but that's improved dramatically. we saw 80s and 90s in the southern half of the country. it was like a summer weekend for many people. the only exception in the northwest and the northeast. wasn't the warmest either, but not bad. throughout today, some cooler air is trying to arrive. we get typical showers and thunderstorms out there. not a lot of bad weather today. much of your business travel and regular travel to work or to school today will be just fine. we have showers up in wisconsin, the milwaukee area to green bay. almost over already. almost done. the forecast for today, 70 and sunny in d.c. philly, new york, no problems. the southeast, near record

highs. dallas, 85. a quiet week. halloween, not a lot of problems. but much cooler great lakes and ohio valley. >> a little scary there. frightening with the cold weather. >> it could show in new england in the mountains come saturday. >> say it isn't so. that's going to mess up all kinds of costumes. we are one week and one day away from the midterm elections. steve kornacki looks at the tossup states and says why they are key. this is the most suspenseful election i can remember. which party is going to control the senate? we may not know on election night, the day after, or a few weeks later, may not know until early next year. show you how that could work. on the big board in yellow. these are the ten battle ground states. the ten states where there is

suspense about who's going to win the senate. let's take a different view of this. want to show you what election night might look like. it's election night, returns coming in. make assumptions. take some of these states. clearly one candidate is ahead of the other. it could change between now and the election. but for right now for our purposes, for instance, a state like arkansas, tom cotton, republican challenger, seems well-positioned against the democratic incumbent. red. new hampshire, the democratic incumbe incumbent, seems better positioned. and kay hagan in north carolina. move to the democratic side. mitch mcconnell in kentucky. about four points ahead of allison grimes in the polls. tighter now. iowa, jonierness, the republican, has a slight lead. move that temporarily. and the same thing for colorado. going to move that over temporarily to the republican side because udall trails by a

few points. see where this leaves us. the republicans at 49. two away. need 51 to get the majority. but think of election night and thousand these things are going to be coming in. louisiana, it's a jungle primary state. if no one gets 50%, a runoff. nobody thinks that mary landrieu or the challengers will break 50%. likely a december run off. kansas, pat roberts, republican being challenged by an independent win. he has election night, and early january to say which party he's with. we will not know potentially until early next year which party he will caucus with and control that seat. alaska comes in late, obviously, because of the time zone. but also because it takes a long time to count the vote. in 2008 it took two weeks to get a final result in alaska. could be sitting on alaska for a

while. and georgia, because of a court ruling in georgia, they would normally hold their runoff in december, but because of a court ruling it won't be this year. it will be january 6th, 2015. next year. that's around the same time the senate is convening. there's a libertarian voting 4 or 5%, the major party candidates at 48. there is a real chance that the suspense could last into the wee hours on election night or into the weeks or even months ahead. talk about a close election. >> all right. we'll be watching for that. new buzz that former florida governor jeb bush might be considering a run for the white house in 2016. will there be a ford dynasty in toronto? scrambled application is next.

about them all year along. and now i understand the rnc chairman said this tuesday when we go to vote, when the voters place their ballot, it's going to be a referendum against president obama's policies. is that true? do voters really see it that way? >> i think if one side was saying, they might not see it. but president obama himself is saying his policies are on the ballot. and stick up for voters who got him elected twice. but it's less who's policies are on the ballot, but does washington work? washington doing things? do they bet on the republicans? we have to see and find out. >> are you seeing momentum behind the midterms? word on the street, are people excited and trying a make a change? >> people are disengaged. and that's hard for politicians trying to appeal to, you know, voters who are just saying i'm done, over it. >> i'm sick of politics. >> this is so dysfunctional,
