mida midair. no one was hurt but the good news stops there. nasa is left with the gut wrenching question what went wrong? nbc dan shinman reports. >> seconds laters the rocket crashed back into the launch pad exploding into a fire ball that can be seen for miles. burning debris reigned down over the nasa's complex in virginia. >> terrorist rocket suffering a catastrophic anomaly shortly after lift off. the range confirming no injuries and the personnel are accounted for. >> the safe guards worked as they should. all we lost was hardware. >> the rocket was carrying a sigma spacecraft loaded with 5,000 spounds of nasa supplies. >> we're a good point on the space station.

d.c. and other buildings. no word on what specific buildings. homeland security secretary called on law enforcement nationwide to be on the lookout for small scale attacks like the one in canada. at&t is in trouble with the government again. earlier this month the company reached a 105 million settlement with the feds on unauthorized phone charges on phone bills. at&t is accused of charging millions of wireless customers with unlimited data plans while reducing the data speeds. >> the government says it happened to millions of at&t customers going from lightning fast to turtle slow. ma reese turner said it caught him off guard. >> in the middle of my cycle, my billing cycle, it gets throttled. my data slows down to a crawl. >> for $30 a month he's been paying for at&t's unlimited data

plan. the government accuses of at&t of slowing -- the throttling began after they used as little as 2 gigabytes in a billing cycle, making it difficult or impossible to surf the web or watch videos. 3.5 million customers were throttled. >> unlimited means unlimited. if you slow down the service of customers who believe they're getting unlimited data. they're not getting unlimited data. >> at&t called the allegations baseless saying we have been transwarrant customers since the beginning. we informed all via bill notices and text messages of a change in terms. >> at&t said only 3% of the customers are affected but the fcc call it is a classic bait and switch. signing up customers and promising a service and changing the terms while still under

welcome back to first look. meteorologist bill karinss giving you an update, and also the halloween forecast looks interesting. yesterday very warm for the southern half of the country. 80s as far north as d.c. enjoy it. i'm not sure the next time you'll be 80s in d.c. some showers on the way for the big cities in the east. not a lot of rain just a little bit. cloudy and temperatures will get a little bit cooler. so for today temperatures in the mid 60s the big cities all the way up to 71 in boston. some few showers this afternoon. cooler in chicago. you're dry in the ohio valley. fast forwarding to tomorrow cold front clears out. look at this. international falls high temperature of 37. that cold air will be dropping down for halloween and we're expecting some snow as far south as lexington kentucky. friday night as the ghost and goblins are trick or treating.

filmed scene. i'm joined by the politico reporter. good morning. >> good morning. thank you for having me. >> we've been talking about this. we're in the home stretch for the midterms. there is word that democrats are pumping money into liberal congressional districts they thought were solid wins. so why is this? >> well, this point in the game there's not a lot of certainty for democrats. even in the races they thought were close enough or they could pull out. they're starting to not be as sure. certainly we know this is potentially going to be a good year for republicans. we know there's not necessarily as much support from the democratic candidates that we're hearing of before. now it's starting to look less and less certain that democrats will be able to pull off the races they were counting on. so at this point, they're flooding a lot of money into the races. there's a call yesterday the congressional leaders asking members of the democratic caucus to pay their dues. to pay the money they need to pay to kind of change the tide

of the races, if they can. >> so could big losses on election day push democrats deep into the minority and diminish hopes of winning back majority in 2016 or even beyond that? >> this point the big thing is whether the senate changes hands. that's what everybody is keeping an eye out for. at this point, republicans are favored to take the senate majority but it's not necessarily a done deal. there are a lot of races that are so still within the margin of error. it's not looking -- there's no clear picture at this point with only a week to go until the election. at this point that's the election. and the farther the democrats would be pushed in the minority then the more difficult it would be for them to recover in future election cycling. >> speaking of the margin of error and how tight the races. what are the tightest we should be watching for on tuesday? >> at this point, some of the close races to watch, colorado, alaska, new hampshire, various other ones like that at this
