orman but still down. mitch mcconnell is expanhandling his lead and the chances to become the senator. and in iowa ernst has grown her lead to seven. this is according to the iowa poll. democrat bruce braley is trending downward and even lose ing his congressional district by three-points. senate majority leader harry reid acknowledging a win for ernst would ensure he lose his majority leader status. and tom harkin drew fire for the comment about ernst that surfaced over the weekend on buzz feed. >> ernst she's really attractive. and she sounds nice. i got thinking about that. i don't care if she's as good looking as taylor swift. or as nice as mr. rogers.

but if she votes like michele bachmann, she's wrong for the state of iowa. >> so yet the exhaustion and ad negativivity things may not be settled by wednesday morning. as we look what mary landrieu is going through. she's leading in louisiana's primary by eight. if she doesn't win outright she's trailing bill cassidy in a runoff. that state is likely headed for a runoff in florida. in georgia runoffs go nine weeks and purdue is favored in that. democrats have struggled to win in overtime. over the weekend president obama campaigned with michigan senate candidate gary petters. that's rare sight in this cycle. he went to pennsylvania where tom wolf is expected to upset the incumbent republican governor tom corbett. the democratic challenger up by double digits. the president standing side by

side with daniel malloy who is in a tighter race than expected. a ppp poll shows malloy is up by three. polls chris crossing in the last two months. one point is now separating mary burke and republican governor scott walker in wisconsin. and in florida, one of the nastiest races of all, ppp poll has charlie crist with the narrowest leads. and democrats are trying to make inroads in traditionally red states. jason carter is down in georgia but close to incumbent nathan deal. down six to democrat paul davis. another news for you today nurse kaci hickox is speaking out after she successfully challenged maine's attempt to

force her to a mandatory quarantine following her return from west africa. in an exclusive interview he said chris christie placed her into isolation because an abundance of politics. she's promising to limit her activity in maine. >> i understand that the community has been through a lot in the past week and i do, you know, apologize to them for that. i will not go into town into crowded public places. you know, i have had a few friends come visit me in my home and that's fantastic. >> republican senator rand paul said he's torn over the issue of ebola quarantine but admits part of him was horrified by how hickox was initially treated. >> when we get to the question of quarantine, it's a tough question because the libertarian in me is sort of horrified at the eye of indefinitely detaining anyone without a trial.

against isis in retaliation for the massacre. u.s. officials said iraqi security forces are planning to launch a major spring offensive to push back against the islamic state. it includes training more than 20,000 troops in just the next few months. brittany maynard, over the past few weeks has become the face of the right to die movement ended her life on saturday. after being diagnosed with aggressive terminal brain cancer. she and her family moved from california to oregon. she became an advocate after this video discussing her plan. she took a life ending prescription in her bedroom surrounded by loved ones. brittany maynard was 29 years old. we shift our attention to talk monday business news. the ntsb saying pilot error may have played a role.

cnbc joins us from london. it was a shock to people following the virgin efforts to try to make this happen. this has been years in the making. obviously this crash is a huge setback. >> absolutely. and the investigation continues. there's some talk about the roll of the pilot, but there may be other reasons as well. a number of scientists center stepped forward and made claims that they told virgin within recent years that nitrous oxide rockets are dangerous. these claims are coming as we learn three senior executives have left the company within the last year including a specialist in safety. so there are still an awful lot of new leads emerging as we continue to look into why exactly this spaceship or spacecraft exploded in the mohave desert. we'll continue to watch that

one, obviously, and follow the investigation closely. finally, some good news for the american motorists. we're below $3 a gallon. that happened on saturday, according to aaa. it moeans according to the organization that the average american household is probably saving about $50 an their gas bill per month from that year ago average of $3.51. that it was costing to fill up your car. and a finally look at the markets as we wrap up the business report here. in europe we've started in negative territory this morning. but the dow and the s&p finishing out october at new record highs. at the moment the future suggests we could get a weaker start to november on the first full trading day. i have to tell you november is generally good for markets.
