and the taxi meter running, she become s more anxious. she openly admits she was drinking, even though she was on a break from work at a local restaurant. >> i have a cab, she's charging. i start to bang on the table. i was under the influence. >> she hears the clerk's voice and realizes she had been in the rear of the store. she walks down the aisle and approaches the clerk who is chatting with another customer. >> it's hard to know what transpired over the next several minutes because the camera has no audio. the store owner's dog jumps on the woman, who continues talking. >> she came to ask me and said, she wanted me to help her. i was with somebody else. i told her, she was here first, and i have to help the other person. she asked the other person if she can get help first, and the
12:46 pm
other person said she needed help, too. >> she remembers asking her if she can cut the line, and she said the customer had no problem with it. it's at this point that something rubs her the wrong way. >> as she turns and directs her attention to the customer, they always coming in here expecting, that got me. i had to walk out. i said, what are you talking about? she said, you always come into my store. >> now it's you and y'all. as much as you want me out of your store, can you help me so i can get out of here? >> she is offended by the comment, which she believes is discriminatory. the clerk denies even making it. >> she said i said you people, but i never said that. i'm from africa, so i wouldn't say that. >> mothe woman who admits she w under the influence is furious. on her way out, she makes an impulsive decision to do damage. as she walks down the aisle, she
12:47 pm
sticks her arm out and sweeps every bottle she touches off the shelf. the clerk is blindsided. >> first, i was, like, when she walked, like it happens when people break bottles, but the breaking kept going. i turned around, and i didn't believe it. >> i was halfway down the aisle before i started to mash it up. the rest is on camcamera. >> it was like everywhere, breaking bottles, liquor. >> she stiff arms numerous bottles, leaving $1600 worth of liquor across the floor. >> she runs to the door in time to see the woman get in the cab still waiting out front. she jots down the license plate number and calls the police. >> the police received a 911 call from a frantic, i guess it was the clerk, at the liquor
12:48 pm
store, stating a lady had just come in and was displeased with the clerk because she wouldn't wait on her right away. >> harry is public information officer for the police department, which handled the call. >> i think she was more upset than scared. upset that all she has to account for all the broken bottles was nothing. >> the clerk gives the police the number of the taxi, but she's written it down incorrectly. their only lead is to watch the security footage, but that offers no view of the license plate. then a couple days after the incident, the clerk coincidentally turns up a lead of her own. >> she was at the palace center and observed the cab that looked like the one that was at the store. the number she had given the police was one number off. she talked to the cabdriver and the driver said, yes, i drove her to another liquor store and then dropped her off.
12:49 pm
>> the taxi driver said he drove her. we went there and they said she worked here but she was off that day. we called the police again, and the police came in and took the information. >> what seems like an open and shut case turns out to be much more challenges. she doesn't show up for work the next day, so police can't question her and can't locate a home address for her. another dead end. hi, richard lui. we're following breaking news out of nebraska where a doctor infected with ebola is arriving back from west africa right now. the plane carrying dr. martin salia just landing at the airfield in oak ha. this is a picture of the lane. the doctor will be taken to nebraska medical center. he will be the third patient treated there for ebola. the tenth of all to be treated in this country, in the united states. dr. salia was working in
12:50 pm
leone. he told his wife back in maryland that he had a headache and fever. his wife said salia had two negative tests for ebola but then a third test came back positive. the couple has two children, a 12-year-old and 20-year-old. the doctor travels frequently between the united states and his native sierra leone. he is a citizen of sierra leone but a permanent u.s. resident. he was there working with a hospital that was treating ebola patients and of course as we all have become unfortunately familiar with, the volunteers that have gone to the very heart of the ebola-stricken areas, sierra leone, guinea and libe a liberia, it has been a very difficult time for them. there's been over 570 local health care workers that have been affected in those areas. and more than half of them dying after being infected with ebola. online with us right now as we watch his plane, dr. martin
12:51 pm
salia's plane, now taxi, there is an ambulance close by. he will then take what is estimated to be a ten-minute trip to the hospital there in omaha, nebraska, and the biocontainment unit, one of four across the country that have been designated to treat patients. again, this is the tenth ebola patient in the united states. there is the ambulance that i was talking about going on to the tarmac. we will see then dr. martin salia -- what has been said from hospital officials is that he is critically ill, possibly sicker than the first patients successfully treated in the united states. that was coming from the hospital in omaha, nebraska, in a statement, that he is critically ill and possibly sicker than the first patients successfully treat ed in the u.. dr. natalie azar from nyu is
12:52 pm
with us on the phone right now. doctor, critically ill and not, as they were sayi ining -- poss sicker than those earlier. in terms of information, they're going to get him on the ground and determine what state of health he's in. what would you surmise from what you've heard and been looking at so far? >> yes, so far. basically, what i've gathered is that he began to feel sick or began to have symptoms on november 6th. that's roughly nine days ago now. this is kind of the time in the natural course, natural history of the disease, where people sort of slowly start to get symptoms. they get worse and worse. he's kind of reaching that peak time where his symptoms are going to be at their worst. not knowing a ining all the det his care up to now, we're assuming that from the time he tested positive, which i believe was on november 10th, that he
12:53 pm
was at least getting the most aggressive supportive care in sierra leone, meaning electrolytes and blood pressure control and stabilization and whatnot. as far as we know, he hasn't received any what we call convalescent serum, the plasma from survivors, nor that's he received any experimental antiviral. i'm sure the expectation is that he will be receiving that once he arrives in the u.s. >> dr. azar, as you and i are watching these live pictures in omaha, the ambulance pulling up on the far side of the airplane that's arrived and dr. salia coming from freetown. they put up the stairs. he will then come down. what dow expect to see here? would it be what we've seen in the past, where the parent woti would be in some sort of suit? dr. azar, are you still with us? it looks like dr. azar we lost
12:54 pm
her, we'll try to get her back on line in just a little bit and get her perspective on what we expect to be happening not only now but over the coming hours and days. but as she was reflecting, at this time, based on what we understand the diagnosis of ebola to be, just a handful of days ago, that the symptoms at this point in the arc of that sickness of this disease, that he would be experiencing heightened symptoms, which would be consistent with what the hospital out of omaha has told us so far. and, again, the area that he was treating in sierra leone, his home country, it has killed over 5,000 people, over 5,100 individuals passing away because of ebola in those three countries, sierra leone, guinea and liberia, in west africa. just a little bit about salia
12:55 pm
himself. it has been said by his colleagues he was one of the best trained surgeons of his country of sierra leone and he had been working as a general surgeon at united hospital in freetown, sierra low i don't know -- leone, but that hospital not an ebola treatment unit but based on the numbers, the exposure he would have was probably just part and parcel to him being there and why he went there. dr. azar, i was just commenting as we're watching the video where the ambulance has moved to the other side of the plane, it doesn't look like we can see much through the windows here, they have pulled up also the stairs. as he comes out, should we expect to see him in one of those suits, special suits, we've seen patients in before? >> i anticipate that we will.
12:56 pm
it will be interesting to see if he can actually deplane himself as some of the other patients have or if he is, as they've described, too ill. and on a stretcher. but i imagine he'll be in a protective suit, yes. >> it looks like the ambulance is moving away from the aircraft. again, dr. salia, coming from freetown, sierra leone. we were unable to determine from this angle if he was able to de-plane on his own, what does that tell you? >> it tells me that, as i anticipated from the descriptions we've been getting, that he is probably sicker than some of the other patients. remember, he's well into week two of the illness, presumably -- i don't know how much you guys heard before i got cut off -- without having plasma from survivors or experimental antivirals yet e.'s probably just been getting supportive care, hopefully aggressive live. but remember that the patient whs who were infected, those other
12:57 pm
eight patients who survived in the united states, they were able to receive the antivirals and the more aggressive care very -- much earlier on in their illnesses than he is. >> dr. azar -- >> remembering also that the vast majority of people who survive this illness in west africa don't have access to any of those specialized treatments. so you still can survive this illness without that. so i wish him the best. again, we're probably going to need a good 24 hours for the doctors there to evaluate and assess him and see what his status really is. >> just before i ask you this question, i want to describe what we're seeing on the screen right now. it looks like the ambulance, which has moved now to the near side of the plane, and the stairs have been deployed, that we may see perhaps dr. salia now leaving the plane from this side. we were unable to see what happened on the other, although they did have some sort of flat
12:58 pm
bed truck and a small ladder on the other side. we were unsure of what was happening. but the doors are still open at the back of the ambulance as, again, we wait to see whether this ambulance moves on to the hospital in the biocontainment unit itself. what will they be looking for once they get him it to the unit? what will they be measuring? what would be essential here? >> so basically the first thing they're going to do is assess his vital signs and specifically we're talking about what his temperature is, what his blood pressure is, what his heart rate is, what his respiratory rate is. those are very, very basic hemodynamic parameters that tell us a lot about how well or unwell a patient is. after that, they're going to immediately have to start drawing blood on his to see what his kidney function, liver function, coagulation function looks like and they will probably begin to immediately begin to rehydrate him, assuming he's lost a lot through diarrhea and vomiting to this point. >> we're showing some video,
12:59 pm
dr. azar, a file of that biocontainment unit. there's only four in the country that have been designated. we're also seeing several individuals coming down from the plane. and we assume that it is the plane that came from freetown, sierra leone, may have made a stop or two. we don't know that for sure. but that biocontainment unit, as we're looking at some of the equipment that they have there, this particular location in omaha, nebraska, this is their third patient. >> yes. >> how would this differ from the others or not at all? >> no. i mean, i think the four that we always mention, missouri and maryland and emery and the one in omaha are all the highest containment levels in the united states. and we've talked about this before. they are mostly created for those respiratory path generajg owe generals so you have double doors and health care workers and doctors who are taking care of those patients wear suits
1:00 pm
with their own oxygen supply, et cetera. but we've already seen, et cetera, remember, the experience at bellevue in new york city. we can treat a patient without all that elaborate setup. really for a disease like ebola, it's really the contact precaution the most important thing. all the other things would be bonuses. but there's something special about omaha compared to the other three facilities in the united states. arguably he could have been brought to another well-prepared hospital in this country. it didn't need to be one of those four. but clearly they're ready and willing and able to take care of these patients. we should utilize their benevolence in any event. >> and have been successful, as we have said, in eight of the nine cases so far. just to recap, dr. azar, please stay with us. top of the hour here. it is 4:00 p.m. eastern. we have just
