>> support for the family of michael brown. nearly 200 protests. early this morning police in ferguson held a news conference after a second night of looting and objects thrown at police officers. >> we were able to seize a cocktail in the area of church street in front of city hall. there was a arrest made following that. i had it on the tailgate of the pick up truck. we seized earlier in the evening a .9 millimeter semiautomatic pistol. rocks, bottles, tent poles, pieces of asphalt, small bottles filled with probably something you could drink, perhaps water or gatorade. other small bottles filled with what appears to be urine. >> our plan moving forward is to make sure this community is safe, businesses are maintained and that people still have their

rights for freedom of speech and protests. >> the chief said police made 44 arrests. mostly misdemeanors and four felony arrests including several outside of ferguson police department. the national guard stood near barriers. he explained his decision to increase the national guard number from 700 to 2200. >> all together that will be more than 2,200 national guardsmen in the region. lives and property must be protected. this community deserves to have peace. >> meanwhile, in oakland california a peaceful protest turned chaotic. large groups of protestors blocked major highways, vandalized police cars and set fires in the streets. this t-mobile store was among several cities looted. and they called for justice by shutting down major freeways. in los angeles they tried to prevent demonstrators from

entering this freeway. several were arrested there. in portland, oregon they used pepper spray and several arrests. on the east coast in boston 1400 protestors with traffic on major roadways and they blocked major thoroughfares during the height of rush hour. president obama addressed it. >> for those that think that what happened in ferguson is a reason for violence i have no sympathy for that. but for the overwhelming majority of people that just feel frustrated and pain because they get a sense that maybe some communities aren't treated fairly or some individuals aren't seen as worthy as others, i understand that. and i want to work with you and

countries. that from russia. well, thanksgiving travel is going to be a bit stressful today. a nor'easter is set to nail the northeast. in the skies the military is helping out. it has opened restricted air space for flights. wendy is live in chicago o'hare. wendy, how are things looking right now? >> reporter: good morning betty. as you can see behind me the lines are already building at this very early hour and overnight all of the major airlines cancelled hundreds of flights as a preemptive strike against that storm as you mentioned that's moving up the east coast and that's not good news when the thanksgiving travel numbers are up. whether by air or by roadway an estimated 46 million people will travel this holiday weekend. >> i'm coming from the twin cities, i'm going to ohio. >> reporter: and with gas prices

down 84 cents since april drivers will have a lot of company on the highways this year. >> under $3 it's free. >> reporter: what isn't freebie any stretch is airline travel. in fact, ticket prices are up slightly from this time last year. >> what we tend to see for this holiday period is that people will travel regardless. the extra $50 or $100 per ticket isn't going toe keep them from going to visit their family. >> reporter: but could hinder the visits, the weather. >> very happy. >> reporter: other travellers won't be so lucky as a nor'easter is forecast to make its way up the eastern seaboard and a major storm on the east coast can have a ripple effect across the country. the airline advice, check your e-mail and download your airline's app for the latest delays and cancellations. >> we'd rather have people wait out storms at their homes as

carolina, north carolina coast. it's moving to the north about to arrive in new york city. it's raining in philadelphia. that's plenty warm. no problems. it's just a rainstorm on i-95. i'm sure there will be airport delays because of volume, wind, rain and low visibility but if we're going to get snow out of the morning hours, central pennsylvania, watch i-81 and then later today interior sections of new england. how much snow -- again, i-95. not expecting much but anything. very little of anything and same with boston but albany and the hudson valley area and now even northern new england too they're going to be digging out come thursday morning for about a foot of snow. >> my goodness. >> some areas are going to get hit hard but it's more the areas that are more hearty. >> be careful traveling today, thank you bill. a high speed chase ends in a crash and a thud. it happened in oklahoma city

after a 20 minute high speed pursuit police surrounded the car at i dead end. then the suspect got the bright idea to drive in reverse and then actually slam on the gas and try to break through that barricade. you're going to see what happens. yeah, didn't work so well. the driver then decides to make a run for it. after a short foot chase officers catch him in a nearby parking lot. the suspect is already wanted for a felony. the three people in the car were caught and taken into custody as well. just ahead, first the blowout, then the apology. plus a woman falls into a deep sinkhole while hanging laundry.

saturday. police shot the boy after reaching for his pellet gun which looked like a real weapon. >> enforcers wiped through camps with pepper spray. more than 100 were arrested including key student leaders. >> and attorney is accused of hypnotizing women for his sexual pleasure. they would lose track of time during phone calls and meetings forgetting what happened. for now he is suspended by the state supreme court. >> so imagine hanging up your laundry outside when out of nowhere a 7 feet hole opens up beneath you. it was a sinkhole caused by an old well. she is okay but might consider having to use a laundromat for awhile. let's get the latest in sports. >> happy thanksgiving eve. let's get you started with sports this morning. he denies running up the score on his team's 87-26 blowout

potential successor will be facing those same sort of problems. >> well one of the candidates as we just reported for the job already dropped out. any chance that gop members will block any nominations as maybe pay back for immigration reform? >> that's definitely a possibility. at this point we've heard from a couple of lawmakers that said they expect this confirmation process to be a very difficult fight. it's certain that there will be a lot of difficult fights starting in this next congress. we also have another potential nomination of an attorney general and it's unclear which one of these two confirmations will be the first one. >> well, top democrat is criticizing his own party for what he says is blowing the opportunity americans gave them by focussing on the wrong problems so what issues should democrats really zero in on right now? >> well, his remarks were talking about the past. he was talking about how in 2008

startling numbers in the daily beast. millions promise for ebola not adding up. of the countries that promised money to fight the ebola epidemic little has been delivered. 17% of the 467 murder in the second degree promise by the european union institutions have been provided. the u.s. actually has one of the higher numbers 72% of the $572 million pledged has been delivered and both the silicon valley community fund and larry paige family foundation pledged $25 million. neither group delivered any money. on nbc news.com two minnesota men charged with trying to aid isis but only one of them is in custody. he was arrested in may. the other man actually slipped out of the country to turkey that same month. he is believed to still be
