longer interview. >> if it's the sunday after the super bowl it'll be "meet the press." we'll see you next week. good monday morning, right now on "first look," the northeast braces for another winter wallop. this same storm slammed chicago with up to 15 inches of snow, closing schools and forcing the cancellation of more than 2,000 flights. super bowl stunner. a super comeback for the patriots and the seahawks catching heat for giving up a touchdown. plus a gun-wielding toddler wounds both his parents. "american sniper" sets a super bowl record and the advertiser winners and losers from last night's game. good morning, happy monday to you. i'm betty nguyen. here we go again. a wicked snowstorm slamming parts of the u.s. right now the northeast facing snow, sleet and freezing rain. millions bracing for a messy monday commute.

in the midwest, look at this. chicago buried under snow. at midway airport, 18 1/2 inches of it. the forecast is forcing schools to cancel classes and leaving more than 8,000 without power. in toledo, a snow emergency. visibility was down to just a few feet. officials issued a travel ban for parts of ohio. in nebraska the roads, they were treacherous there. over seven inches of icy snow and wind causing these two tractor trailers right here to slam into each other. and at airports, travel is up in the air. more than 2,000 flights canceled across the country. the hardest-hit airport, o'hare international with over 1300. let's get the latest from this. meteorologist bill karins is here tracking this massive storm. >> already the biggest snowstorm in chicago. the winds have died off. we're not looking at blizzard conditions. detroit, 14 1/2 inches.

that's the most snow they've had in one single day in the last 40 years, so, yes, this was a historic storm and now the worst of it is smack in the middle of new england. all through upstate new york northern half of pennsylvania. the green shows you the rain and the rain has moved into southern portions of new york city ranging currently in brooklyn and will turn over to rain in manhattan so a lot of the three inches will be washed away by midmorning. different story, southern new england, plenty cold enough for all snow from the albany area over to boston hartford should be mostly all snow but it will change to sleet and could have an extended period of freezing rain north of new york city. new york city picked up a quick 3 or 4 inches. the highest, a foot is possible from the mass pike through worcester north pwards and freezing rain, southern portions

of new england, the pink shown here and could see a quarter to a half an inch. back to the sunset and temperatures plunge. then the temperatures will drop to the single digits so shovel everything today because you'll be chipping ice tomorrow. >> there is a major showdown in the nation's capital today. the president is expected to reveal his ten-year budget plan. it would give a bump to the poor and middle class, but it will also unbalance the debt, challenging the gop-led congress. tracie potts in live in washington this morning. tracie, how bitter could this get, and is there any common ground here? >> reporter: well it's going to be contentious. the chair wants to look for common ground and we're going to be looking for the details within the hour more and then later today as this budget comes out. president obama's $4 trillion budget. federal workers would get a bigger raise than before. plus, he wants to spend nearly

half a trillion on infrastructure, roads, bridges and public transit. $10 billion plus on clean energy. >> really important stuff. >> reporter: and nearly half a billion for free community college just to start. we'd pay almost 60 times that in three years when more students sign on. >> we can afford to make these investments. since i took office we cut our deficits by about two-thirds. >> reporter: the deficit, how upside down the budget is, and the debt, the total amount we owe, would remain relatively stable, experts say, but still unbalanced. that's likely to cause a rift here, plus a 14% corporate tax on overseas profits. and an even bigger tax on future foreign earnings. but republicans are talking compromise. >> we want to go and see if there's common ground. and so we want to look and we want to work with this administration to see if we can find common ground on certain aspects of tax reform, and we want to exhaust that possibility. >> reporter: this budget gives the middle class a break, a second tax credit for two-parent working families, expanding tax

saturday. she was taken to an atlanta hospital. our sister network e! reporting she's on a ventilator. but so far hospital officials are not confirming that. bobbi kristina's father, singer bobby brown, has been at her bedside and through his attorney is asking that everyone respect her privacy. meanwhile, officials have released this audio recording of the emergency responder's call to dispatch. >> engine 7, rescue 4 responder. echo level response. possible cardiac arrest. 21-year-old female in a bathtub, face down. >> the timing of this incident is drawing sharp comparisons to that of her mother, whitney houston, who was found unresponsive in a hotel bathtub and died nearly three years ago. police tell nbc news no drugs were found in the initial search of bobbi kristina's home. let's get down to business. good morning. >> good morning. stocks are starting off with a new slate coming off their second straight down month a

margin for him to rise over anybody. a lot of governors eyeing 2016 campaigns have sort of big ranges of people who were unsure about them and to me that says they have a lot of room to grow and to rise well above that sort of 40% mark that mitt romney was running around in the poll. >> as you know he did meet with jeb bush for that secret meeting that we all knew about. we didn't know exactly what they were discussing before making this announcement. any chance that romney could fall on the vip o vp run. >> i sort of doubt that. romney's statement saying you know, i'm not going to run. he says it's time for a new generation. time for someone whose name isn't known was a very quiet -- >> he won't consider for running for prp? >> you never know. >> you never know. speaking of you never know christie chris christie is in london. he meets with cameron today and so how is this for him, this overseas trip? is this playing well for him over here especially if he's possibly going to run in 2016?

>> for him he's saying it's just a trade mission talking to one of our top trading partners but an opportunity for him to tart talking foreign policy clout. he's a very -- domestic policy on lockdown for his team but needs to show he has a bit more breadth and on a broader scale. >> are you surprised he's over there? >> no. i mean i think we'll see a lot of republicans sort of showing up. we saw bobby jindal a couple weeks ago talking to a think tank. he doesn't have the angle that i think -- that governor christie does but i think we'll see a lot of people going over there, britain's our top ally the first place you start when trying to talk foreign policy and sort of builds that side out of you. >> it'll be interesting. we saw that tweet by rupert murdoch talk about joe biden actively thinking about running. could that play into the mix and would that be a big issue for
