this show right now has been going on for 40 years? because it feels like it. >> yeah pretty much. >> how about it. >> right. >> about. >> how about more like -- >> try. >> okay. >> good morning, i'm jo scarborough. it's monday february 16th. welcome to "way too earlier" on a way too cold morning in new york city. last night if you were like me you spent the evening reliving your younger saturday nights by watching the 40th anniversary of "saturday night live" a wonderful celebration if you could look past the aarp commercials talking about memory loss. or a few of the legends on stage, they probably should have let us remember how they were in the 1970s. all in all it was a high school reunion worth the price of admission that gave was a brief respite of the growing news out of europe.

last night, another dreadful video streamed across the world with the intent of shocking. terrorizing and provoking nations to world. a newly formed isis released the video showing the beheading of 21 christians. the executioner can be heard speaking flaunt english saying, quote, we swear to allah, we'll mix it with your blood. the "the new york times" announced that the executioner in the upstart libyan group invoked prophesies that have been favored by the islamic state leaders about an apocalyptic clash with the west. seeing these executions as part of quote an in-times clash with civilization. egypt's president called for a woke of mourning and promised

revenge. a month of the charlie hebdo attacks in paris, a gunman shared many similarities with those french terrorists then's where we start this morning with the second terror attack in a european capital in just over a month. the swift spread of terror across europe landed in copenhagen saturday when a danish born attacker took the lives of two people and wounded five ores before being killed by police. the suspected gunman first opened fire sad at a free speech seminar taking place at a cafe. authorities say the target may have been one of the events organizer's, a swedish cartoonist. the attacker left 20 bullet holes in the front window and the police there were helplessly overmatched. the most remarkable thing is even after the shooting the people insaid the cafe insisted

that the talk they were having on free speech continued. the artist was unharmed. but he's been the target of a lot of assassination threats since 2007 when he drew the prophet mohammed's head on a dog's body. here hey is describing the attack. >> he heard a lot of noise, bang pang bang. very quickly we could understand that something was going on. the bodyguards they immediately became -- arush into the scene and took me and threw me into a storage room together with the chairman. and we were put under a table there and we were guarded by policeman withdrawn guns. i understood that we actually came into a safe hiding there.

the gunman, he attacked from the front. i mean he was probably trying to shoot himself in. and for doing that he had to he had to have passed the police ap. and there was -- the most controversial thing going on in the whole drama, he was very well equipped and the policeman were not. he had an advantage because she was shooting through the glass doors there and that was very successful with his gun. while when the police were shooting back they had not good guns for this kind of fight. >> not so goo guns. whether they believe he was the target of the attack, he called himself quote the best candidate we have and said it seems not unreasonable to believe that. after nine hours after the shooting, the gunman killed a security guard that was protecting a bar mits va celebration outside a synagogue.

he fled on foot and an ensuing shootout with police officers left the suspected gunman dead. the wake of this attack just like the attack in paris, is really prime minister benjamin netanyahu said quote, this wave of attacks is expected to continue. we stay to our jewish brothers and sisters, israel is your home. on sun hundreds of graves for desecrated at a jewish cemetery. in the aftermath, one person called it a field of ruins. and yesterday a planned event for the jewish group was scrubbed in sweden out of security concerns. meanwhile, here's what we know about the slain suspect in denmark. he was danish born he was 22 years old and he had a violent criminal past. danish authorities say he may have been inspired by the

islamic state and also by the january 7th attack on the french satirical newspaper "charlie hebdo" in paris. however there is indication that he travelled to syria or iraq or had any connection with the two french born brothers who carried out that paris attack. the copenhagen police have released a statement saying they've arrested two for suspects sunday who they believe may have helped the attacker. let's bring in our journalist live in copenhagen. tell us what the mood is in your city this morning. >> the news is very sad, very shocked. also with the kens that we're going to get through this. this is not anything can that can bring us down. our sense of being together is strong enough that we will of course survive this though it is, of course a horrendous and

terrifying attack on our nation and democracy here in denmark. >> obviously for years france has been having problems with a growing muslim population feeling like they're left out of society. sweden right by you now. obviously is seeing a remarkable amount of refugees and political asylums coming into their country. yet that hasn't been the case in denmark which make this attack all the more surprising despite the fact obviously some prototy violent protests in 2005. would this not be with your small, i guess, 2% 3% i think it was reading last night immigrant population, would that not make this attack all the more surprising? >> reporter: this attack came of course as a surprise.

son sunday showing the beheading of 21 egyptian christians in libya. 21. the video show as line of men in orange jumpsuits being led down a beach, forced to their knees and then beheaded. the egyptian government declared the video authentic. and in a sunday night address, egypt's president vowed his country would' reng the killing. this is the first time egypt has publicly acknowledged military action in neighboring libya. meanwhile a white house statement condemned the quote despicable and cowardly murder in the video and said that i only further galvanizes the international community to unite against isil. now to the cease-fire in ukraine which for the most part

appears to be holding. they're trying to get access to areas in ukraine has that wore reportedly shelled by russian rebels after the truce was declared. the president of france who helped broker the deal with germany and russia says this leaders are now ready to roll out the next phase, including withdrawing heavy weapons and holding tacks for the local elections. and the faa has its eyes on me. they release their report. mine is up in a tree in connecticut. pilots would have to be 17 years old, pass anary naught ticks test and be approved by the tsa. drones must stay lower than 500

greece on its international lenders today. the finance ministers gather in brussels in belgium and they'll try to find a compromise on how to deal with greece's debt burden and what to do with its current bailout plan. greece wants to put an end to austerity and there are three options on the table here. first of all, a bridge loan. but the rest of europe doesn't want that. secondly extending the current bailout plan and thirdly skapg the bailout plan and coming out with an entirely new one. one thing is for sure. those talks are going to be very difficult. they'll likely go down to the wire because once again, greece is running out of cash. and in other news this morning, google's cofounders larry page and sergey blend, they're planning to sell shares that they own, $4.4 billion of those. that is a huge amount. but even once those transactions

are complete, the two cofounders, they are still going to own a majority stake in that company. 52% in terms of the voting rights and shares in google. they're up 4% year to date. >> and carolyn, the dow closed back near 18,000 on friday. the s&p finished at an all time high. what analyst think we're going to see this week in the markets? >> well look, it's certainly going to be a turbulent one. when the traders go back online tomorrow morning, they're going to be watching is there a deal in brussels between greece and its international lenders. then they'll also want to see whether that very shaky cease-fire in ukraine, between russia and ukraine which that holds up. we'll get a report card from walmart and last but not least we'll get the minutes from the

denmark, they knew that there was a threat against denmark and they had did a lot of preparedness towards that. still, it happened. it's the first terror attack of this kind in denmark. and i think, of course, everybody is in shock. i think now we will have a discussion about the perpetrator because here in denmark we discussed the threat from foreign fighters. but he was a guy grown up in denmark and have not been a foreign fighter. and with a, you know a criminal background. so i think that would be one issue. the other issue would be was the threat assessment before the meeting here outside this house. was the threat assessment good enough or should they have put
