deny they do go together. but like peanut butter own jell ri or like diarrhea and polied monk push. >> good morning and welcome to "way too early." now, this is pretty remarkable. i don't know if you've heard about it but we're actually starting this morning with a documentary about a murder that is now the story itself and proves that real life can be stranger than fiction sometimes. just less than 24 hours ago new york real estate heir robert durst was arrested and he's now facing a charge of capital murder in the death of a friend of his in 2000. the arrest that has been decades in the making has been chalked up to new leads in evidence and some apparently in the hbo serious that we talked about on morning joe last month that examined the deaths of his wife's appearance. the final episode of the show delivered a final scene that was
2:31 am
a lot more shocking than any scripted series. it was an apparent confession from durst himself as he appears to be talking to himself in a bathroom while his microphone is still on. >> there it is. you're caught. you're right, of course. but you can't imagine. i'm having difficulty with the question. what the held did i do? killed them all, of course. >> nbc stephen gosing has more
2:32 am
on the series and how it helped put the durst investigation back in the spotlight. >> reporter: heir to a multibillion fortune sits in a jailhouse waiting extradition to california accused of a murder committed over a decade ago. we are relieved and also grateful to everyone who assisted in the arrest of robert durst. we hope he will finally be held accountable for all he's done. christmas eve 2000 susan bermen was killed in her l.a. home. at the time investigators may have suspected the now 71-year-old but there was no arrest. berman was durst's best friend and confidant. he denied murdering her. >> but they were able to put you in california. >> california is a big state. >> reporter: the documentary e re-examines the crime and the disappearance of his first wife
2:33 am
and the murder of his neighbor in texas raising the question many have asked, could he have murdered them all. they found him not guilty in the murder of his neighbor. he admitted to killing him but argued it was self-defense. >> based on the evidence that was presented to us there was reasonable doubt. >> reporter: now he faces another murder trial after his lawyers warned him not to take part in the documentary. >> they said about a stillon times you can't help yourself. right now you're a free man. you say something inadvertently and you'll find ourself charged in new york or charged in los angeles. >> reporter: the series uncovered new evidence including a letter addressed to susan bermen from durst. the handwriting and misspelling look similar to a letter police
2:34 am
received. >> is the information and the testimony of inconsistent statements and some handwriting samples enough to convict a person. >> whatever happens in the courtroom, the spotlight is back on durst. in part his own doing. >> robert durst should have listened to his lawyers. now we go to ferguson missouri where the attorney general is praising the swift arrest in connection with with a shooting of two police officers that were lined up outside of a police department inbetween themselves and protesters. a massive man hunt this city in ferguson led to the arrest of jeffrey williams. he was charged sunday with two counts of first degree assault and police say he's already admitted that he fired the shots that left those two officers wounded. nbc has more on the suspect and his apparent motive.
2:35 am
>> reporter: without warning the shots at least three rang out just after midnight early thursday morning outside ferguson police head quarters setting off a frantic scene. >> st. louis county prosecutor toys say this man allegedly fired those shots from a vehicle during what the prosecutor called some kind of dispute. authorities say williams has been charged with first degree assault on the officers. was he involved with protests? >> yes. he is a demonstrator. he was out there earlier that evening as part of the demonstration. >> reporter: you don't think he was targeting the police in. >> i wouldn't go that far. >> reporter: police called the incident an ambush as protesters gathered to demand more sweeping reforms all stemming from a report that accused the police
2:36 am
department of discrimination. an uneasy truce. the community is worried about more violence and confrontation. >> i'm asking all the protesters that is here for the wrong reason to stay out of our city. >> reporter: police say the officers are still at home and expected to recover. unclear what the reaction will be from my protestered who gather today to the arrest. the hope here of many is that everyone involved in all this will take a step back and let peace and quiet revail. >> boy, let us hope that's what happens. three british teenagers are out on bail this morning after allegedly trying to join isis. officials say the girls were caught in turkey and reunited in the united nations. why is it part of the troubling trend we keep reading about in the fight against the islamic
2:37 am
state militants? >> reporter: good morning. two 17-year-old boys from london and a 19-year-old man were detained in istanbul after a tipoff from britain that they were trying to join isis in syria. they were deported back to the united kingdom where they were arrested by police on suspicion of preparing acts of terrorism. police would really like to know more about the network that recruited them. none has so far been charged and they are still being questioned. this comes just weeks after three other brittic teens, two girls aged 15 and a 16-year-old girl sis appeared from their homes in london. they were pictured on tv and they were seen again in istanbul boarding a bus and it's now thought they're with isis in syria. they were not stopped. it brought a huge row between
2:38 am
britain and turkey about who was responsible. they are still missing. the three boys isn't reach syria but this case once again illustrates the deadly magnet that isis is and also the difficulty authorities have from stopping people trying to join us. back to you. >> thank you so much bill. i just don't understand. i know most people in the west don't understand why young girls would leave a thriving democracy and head out to go help isis kill westerners, but fortunately in this case the three girls were caught before they crossed into syria. officials are indicating that the u.s. and iran are getting a lot closer to a historic but really controversial nuclear agreement as new rounds of talks begin today. american and european officials say the key sticking points
2:39 am
include how soon un sanctions would be removed and how the inspections could be conducted. secretary of state yesterday said the remaining on tackles are mostly political but he's also warning a potential deal could be affected by the 47 republican senators who signed a controversial letter to iran. >> the effect and the intent of the author was to basically say don't do this deal and by the way, that's to say that before there is even a deal. it's like you know giving people a grade on a test before the test is even written let alone given. >> are you going to apologize for this let sner. >> not on your life. i'm not going to apologize for the unconstitutional and unthought out action by someone who's been in the united states senate for 60 some day nchs that's inappropriate. >> nearly one week later the man who wrote the letter says he's
2:40 am
got no regrets. >> are you planning to contact any other of our adversaries around the country? for example, do you plan to check with the north koreans to make sure that they know that any deal has to be approved by the congress? >> right now ai am focussed on stopping iran from getting a nuclear weapon. that's why it's important that we communicated to them. we sent a clear message to a regime. we didn't coddle or conciliate with them. we told them that the american people 71% of the american people in a recent poll will not accept a deal. >> how funny. do you plan to contact anymore of your enemies? mitch mcconnell said he ain't saying he's sorry either and says it was appropriate to warn

iran that congress has to be involved in any deal. let's turn to business. the dow and s&p fell for the third straight week. meanwhile the price of oil continues to plum et. now down to $46 a barrel and overseas the euro hit a new 12 year low against the u.s. dollar. pack your bags kids. we're going to europe this summer. live from london carolyn, other than being good for american tourists that go overseas in the summer what does it mean for american investors and for the future of our dollar? >> we've been seeing a lot of investment into european shares. in fact the outflows from the u.s. equity funds have been staggering. why is that happening? that's of course because virgin monetary policy from the esb and the fed. the esb has last week launched

from euro stimewe plus package. the fed is getting closer to raising rates. they might be dropping the word patient as early as this week but you can do vacationing in europe. let's talk about protests over the weekend in austin, texas at the south by southwest conference. we saw protests against robots by an organization called stop the robots and this group, they want to raise awareness about the dangers of artificial intelligence and they're aimed at one specific company called sky net. >> now we've heard it all. anti-robot protests. hey, mom, i'm going to be leaving this weekend to protest against robots in texas. that's a little strange. let's talk about st. patrick's
2:43 am
day. obviously festivities tomorrow. a lot of americans and people across the globe will enjoy a pint or two or maybe five of the irish beer. but what is begin isz going to keep the party going longer? >> that's a really good question. every year on st. patrick's day worldwide 13 million pints of guinness is being consumed. in fact the consumption in the u.s. has been declining in recent years. the mother company is looking at boosting the consumption of it into the warmer summer months and they're sponsoring summer soccer tournament and also introducing guiness blank and also looking at going into the craft brewery business. we'll see if that flies. >> all right. thank you so much. really appreciate it. by the way, do you know guiness?
