they have a case. now whether or not there's evidence that could be presented in court and whether or not there could be a conviction, that's another question. the truth is the conviction rate in cases like this is exceedingly high. >> this comes weeks after the three brooklyn men were accused of trying to aid isis. how much does this represent an uptick -- are american authorities changing their initial assessment that isis would not gain a foothold in recruiting americans to fight overseas? >> when you say the u.s. government, who is in the u.s. government? nobody at the fbi or the department of homeland security believed that isis was a jv team or have difficulty in recruiting americans. nobody believed that. i have worked with the fbi and

after being officially charged last night with first-degree murder by the los angeles da robert durst appeared in court again today in new orleans where he will remain until a bail hearing next monday on local felon, firearm, and drug possession charges. this afternoon we learned durst will be transferred to a correctional facility outside of new orleans for medical reasons, though it is unclear what medical condition he is suffering from.

some way? >> it may be a cry for attention. i would hesitate to say it is an effort to get caught and to bring all of this to an end. i think for whatever reason durst likes dancing on a razor's edge. at times, he was dressed like a woman and kept to himself. but at other times he would be out at drag clubs and be on the sea wall purchasing drugs. finally after he gets a new lease on life, when his attorney got him off while nonetheless admitting he killed his neighbor instead of regarding that as a new lease on life and just keeping low, he materializes on the lawn of his

brother and then he decides, for reasons of his own, to tell his own story to a documentary filmmaker. precisely why he would put himself out like is another bizarre turn. >> i want to talk about the neurological issues that his lawyers say he is having. to go back to your investigative piece from the turn of the millennium on robert durst, you talk a little bit about his dancing on the edge the fringes, specifically as it concerns drag queens and the transgender community, at one time robert durst was trying to score hormone therapy drugs. a dis-- do you think there's something more there? >> i think there might be something more there. my source on that was a companion of his who had been

seen frequently by other people with durst. the story checks out at a certain point. this individual transgender person who hung with durst at a time when durst was posing a woman, roberta klein, has explained his motive to me for wanting to get these hormone drugs, that he did want to complete a transgender and wanted to undergo a sex change. it's unclear if that's really what he wanted to do for its sake or if he wanted to do it to completely melt into galveston, texas, society as an individual that is not robert durst. when he read that portion of my story, he told his attorney that was all baa -- baloney.

>> when you were researching your story and as you found out things that are pertinent to the investigation of let's say susan berman's death, do you think they did anything questionable in holding onto some evidence or information until the story was finished? >> i'll be candid. i'm queasy about this. i certainly am. i'm not in their position. when i was doing my story, no one was presenting to me evidence that durst had committed murder. if they had done so i would have been in a spot. i would have had to wrestle with the ethics of the situation. that's clearly what these guys did. i hate to pass judgment on them but the timing is discomforting. >> thanks as always. coming up three men in burma have just been sentenced to three years in prison and
