months. the police chief saying he can't rule out something happened. it just wasn't what was describes in the rolling stone article. it was the story that rocked the university of virginia. and sparked a national conversation about sexual assault. now police said they found no evidence that it was true and have suspended the investigation. >> that doesn't mean that something terrible did not happen to jackie. we are just not able to gather sufficient facts to conclude what that something may have been. >> the lengthy rolling stone article was published back in november. a woman called jackie claimed he was gang rained by seven men at a fraternity. >> were you ever able to find the student, the fraternity member who allegedly orchestrated this attack? >> no. >> they say she did not cooperate with the rain investigation. the shocking story initially led

university officials to halt all greek activities. but soon jackie's friends began to raise doubts. >> she said that there were five men, the rolling stone article reported seven. >> rolling stone apologized saying there now appear to be discrepancies on her account. on uva's campus some worry about the chilling effect on future chilling sexual assault victims coming forward. >> the fraternity is now exploring legal options to address the extensive damage caused by rolling stone. >> reporter: for its part rolling stone will only say that it's expecting an independent investigation into that article conducted by columbia university's journalism school to be published within the next few weeks. >> thank you. charlottesville police chief will join us with more on the investigation later.

now to israeli prime minister who's dealing with fallout on many fronts this morning. a stunning report in the wall street journal claim israel spied over a possible nuclear deal 2346789 benjamin netanyahu allegedly used the information to urge members of congress to oppose any agreement. officials say those disclosures outraged the white house more than the spying itself. benjamin netanyahu and israel ambassador are reportedly knew their objections would damage ties to the white house but decided to deal with it to go forward because the end result justified the means. however, the plan apparently backfired as many democratic lawmakers were not on board. israeli officials say they did not spy in the united states or other allies. meanwhile netanyahu is apologizing for saying arab

voters were voting in droves. he is still facing criticism for stating he opposed a two-state solution and now his critics include a former republican secretary of state. >> in the mafr math of netanyahu's recent election victory, the chance of a two-state solution appears even slimmer, of course given his reversal on the issue on the eve of the elections last week. remember, three months after he first took office as his country's prime minister in 2009 he shared his vision for a two-state solution. since then his actions have not matched his rhetoric. the construction has continued. >> in the end we know what a peace agreement should look like. the bars of sl and independent palestine should be based on

conservatives all across america rising up together to say in unison, we demand our liberty. >> cruz is likely to face an uphill battle when it comes to fund raising. he's also polling in the single digits in many early contest dates. his early announcement was seen as a jab at rand paul who's expected to announce on april 7th. his supporters wore stand with rand t shirts. last night paul insisted he's best suited to take on hillary clinton. >> we kind of come from the same wing of the party. if you look at our voting records, you'll find we're very similar. i guess what makes us different is probably our approach as to how we would make the party bigger. i believe you should stand on principle and be true to them

but i also think that we should take those principles and try to bring in new people with them. i've spent the last couple years trying to go places republicans haven't gone and maybe not just throwing out red meat but something intellectually enticing to people who haven't been listening to our message before. >> turning to yemen where the nation appears to be on the brink of an all-out civil war. the central provinces reportedly killing at least 15 people from both sides. >> reporter: yemen's government is fighting for its life. rebels are battling their way toward the government's last stronghold. it's a government that has been a key u.s. ally in the fight against al-qaeda in yemen but that country has gotten so dangerous that the u.s. has now withdrawn its military advisories. which means the u.s. will no

longer have those eyes on the ground in yemen. we have learned new details about the evacuation. a military official saying about 350 special ones ones and intelligence agents were air lifted out leaving on aircraft from two locations on friday and saturday night. classified materials were destroyed along with millions of dollars worth of equipment to keep them from falling into enemy hands. it's being described as a successful e valkuation but now the u.s. won't have the ability to coordinate targeting for the drone war against al qaeda and yemen. >> we lost the ability to get the intelligence we need to strike at various extremist targets without having collateral damage and civilian casualties. >> reporter: yemen grows an alarming list of failed states where al chi a and isis have

room to grow. in large areas of iraq and syria, and now yemen, the dominos seem to be falling. >> military sources have confirmed that the u.s. back yemeni president considered getting an american plane and escaping with u.s. military advisers over the weekend. the president who has been in hiding for months ultimately decided to stay. u.s. officials are now themselves in the wake of a hit list of soldiers posted online. it urges sympathizers to kill americans here at home. pentagon correspondent reports. >> reporter: it may be the first assault by isis on america's home front. a group calling itself the islamic state hacking division posted on the internet names and home addresses of 100 u.s. military and urged sympathizer

to hunt down the americans and kill them on u.s. soil. >> it's a new front. it's a new sense of threat to the home base that we haven't seen before. >> reporter: the pentagon contacted all 100, informed them of the threat but offered no personal protection to them or their families. >> you don't have enough resources to follow the threats or potential threats 24/7 and you can't read their minds. >> reporter: service members are being advised to delete personal information. defense secretary. >> we take the safety of our people very seriously. >> reporter: but the pentagon itself may have accidentally provided the identities to the terrorists. their websites first posted the names and photos of at least 66 of the americans deployed in the war against isis with job descriptions like commander. defense officials say there's no

intelligence indicating an actual attack is imminent but consider the threat alone an act of terrorism. >> it's not just how many people you kill. it's what you do to the sigh can i of people this mental threat. >> let's turn to business now. u.s. stocks fell slightly monday after closing last week with big gains. jeff what should we be watching for in the markets today? >> good morning. it's the same old story, i think. stanley fisher at the fed came out and said an interest rate hike is on its way this year. also reiterated by others. message from the fed right now that rates are going to go higher. i think that's keeping traders nervous which is why we pulled back a little bit yesterday. i think we might be on a firmer footing starting in the u.s. today. the futures are looking a little better but watch out for nerves around the statements. i want to move on.

a lot of people traveling right now, scratching their head and asking if we've seen oil prices drop 50%, why aren't air tickets coming down? i answer. it represents the travel industry on the airline side saying in the u.s. profits this year on a net basis could be in excess of $13 million bel dollar. they put that out there at $85 a barrel. at $55 a barrel those profits are going to be a whole lot better but they're saying don't hold your breath just yet. the airlines are hoping to take advantage of the lower energy prices to take more profit off the table for some time to come. i don't see the headline airline ticket prices coming down too quickly. >> also basketball louisville slugger being sold to wilson sporting goods? >> this is a sad day in a way if you're a big sporting

weather. a conversation i'm not sure i want to have with you. >> i noticed that you got your spring outfit on. >> i do. i'm done. >> at some point -- >> tomorrow i'm wearing a sun dress. who cares. it's summer tomorrow. >> we need it. severe weather season is about to begin. that's a good sign that warmer weather is coming. with the warmer weather comes some tornadoes and other troublesome weather. what we're looking at this morning is not a lot of problems but we are seeing thunderstorms over the middle portion of the country. this is going to be the trouble spot today and over the next couple days. especially in oklahoma, missouri, some portions of kansas and texas. a lot of heavy rain for you this morning. starting it off with just a little bit of bad weather. nothing that's too bad. as we go throughout the next couple of days what we're dealing with is possibility of maybe a tornado or two. not a lot. maybe just a few. that will be one of the problems we'll be dealing with. and the other area of concern is large hail and damaging winds. that will be about it.
