fly into a french mountain side. after reaching cruising altitude the pilot is heard leaving the cockpit. he knocks then bangs on the door to get back in. the co-pilot alone in the cockpit ignores him. then sets the auto pilot to descend to 100 feet. during the next 8 minutes the co-pilot can be heard breathing normally ignoring alarms and calls from controllers and as people begin to scream the plane smashes into the mountain. bill kneelly isneely is at the crash site for us. >> reporter: after the developments yesterday which really stunned everyone an intensive search continues here. the police helicopters coming and going all morning. they're looking for two things. for the second black box. that's the data recorder. all the evidence that led to those stunning conclusions yesterday were from the cockpit

voice recorder. they're still looking for the second black box and they're looking for bodies and body parts. a spokesman this morning saying they're recovering anything that will help the victims. the families of the dead who were here yesterday visiting an area near the crash site most of them have returned. some are still here. one family we believe has not returned are the parents of the co-pilot who did this terrible act. his parents, father a businessman businessman, woman a piano teacher we believe are being questioned by police in southern france about what they knew about their son's activities. what we know about andreas lubitz was his apartment was searched yesterday by police and they made what they believe is a significant discovery. they say it's not a suicide note but it is something they've now taken before testing and it may provide a significant clue.

they also took away a computer from his flat. still, there is no great clue as to why he did this. he was suffering from depression at one point during his training. he broke up with his girlfriend last year we believe but still nothing that would indicate why a man would smash a plan with 149 people other people on board into the side of a mountain. it remains just a terrible mystery. back to you. >> absolutely unthinkable. thank you, bill. as families come to grips with their loss investigators are left with serious questions. katier the katie tur has the latest on the investigation. >> the co-pilot was 27 the german who spoke fluent english, grew up in a picture effect town and had dreams of flying. began flying in 2008. he was certified as a co-pilot in 2013 but accumulated only a

certain number of flight hours until he killed everyone on board. no one saw it coming. he had no criminal record no known terrorist connection. lubitz took a break from flight school in 2009. the ceo of their subsidiary told us he was readmitted after passing psychological tests. his parents's home was searched. and they escorted out an unidentified person. boxes of potential evidence were taken from his dusseldorf apartment. those who knew him were stunned. >> now to the building explosion in new york city this morning. the fire is still not under control. the blast inside a sue shi restaurant ripping through a

building. on the ground cell phones capturing on the chaos. you can see people jumping to safety. it was an explosion that hurt 19. four of them in critical condition. >> i saw the whole store front on the street. >> i walked outside to see no building being there at all. >> and within seconds things got worse as the flames spread to three other buildings. people could smell smoke 50 blocks away. the building crumbled along with two others. >> preliminary evidence suggests a gas-related explosion. >> city officials say construction workers were installing a new gas meter in the building before this blast. they had inspectors on the scene and said the installation did not pass inspection at the time. they are focusing on that work.

this morning the chaos in yemen is growing. the houthis which is a rebel group backed by iran now control large parts of yemen. saudis are launching air strikes targeting rebels. what is at stake for the united states at this point? >> there's a concern that oil prices could affect your prices at the pump. we already saw oil prices drop a dollar a barrel after the saudi oil strikes or iraqs, i should say. they've got warships coming from egypt, pakistan this morning is saying they're not sure if they're going to be involved but it looks like about ten nations are backing the saudis. on the other side is iran. the u.s. is helping the saudis with intelligence at the same time sitting down at the table with iran trying to work out a nuclear deal. they're trying to keep this out of the negotiations but it looks like the u.s. could be affected by whatever is happening in that region.

>> tracie potts for us on capitol hill. thank you. now to a controversial right to discriminate measure in indiana that is generating national heat. the office of the governor a picture of him signing the religious restoration act. it gives business owners the right to refuse service to people based on religious freedom. he says the bill is not about discrimination and if i thought it legal ized it in any way in indiana i would have vetoed. there's been major backlash. hillary clinton tweeted sad this new indiana law can happen in america today. we shouldn't discriminate against people because of who they love. and miley cyrus tweeted a picture of him saying you're equality in both men and women she has since deleted the post.

ncaa is worried about the law as well. we're a week away from the final four which will be held in indianapolis. the president of the ncaa is expressing his concern. he released a staying we are especially concerned about how this legislation could affect our student athletes and employees. we will work to assure student athletes competing next week's final four are not impacted negatively by this bill. there were some big names on capitol hill. ben affleck and bill gates testified before the appropriations sub committee. they stressed the porngs of continued foreign aid and affleck's wife on daughter sat behind him. at one point affleck took a moment to say hello to one of his co-stars. >> the senator layeahyleahy, i would

loved ones arrived near the crash site on thursday hours after hearing the horrifying news about how their relatives were killed. the search for victims and debris now on its fourth day. crews are looking for anything that can help identify people. the plane was at its cruising altitude when the pilot could be heard leaving the cockpit. the pilot tries to get back in first knocking and then banging on the locked door but the co-pilot ignores him. he sets the auto pilot to descend to 100 feet. for eight minutes he can be heard breathing normally as he lets the plane plummet, failing to answer calls from callers, and from the cabin. passengers spent their final minutes screaming before the plane smashed into the mountains. the co-pilot is andreas lubitz a german with
