i'm betty nguyen. it is a state law drawing national attention. indiana's new religious freedom law. this is the cover of today's indianapolis star. it simply says fix this now. this powerful statement following a ground swell of opposition. critics say the law allows businesses to refuse service based on people's sexual orientation. >> in connecticut we honor religious freedom and people have the right to their own practices, but we don't allow you to use your religious freedom to discriminate against somebody else. >> the city and county in indianapolis even went on record as objecting to the law calling it bad for buzz and tourism. yesterday the governor wrote an article defending the law. he's gotten support from some of the 2016 presidential

jurors wept as the medical examiner explained how the bomb ripped through his body. he'd been watching the race with his family. the fbi says dzhokhar tsarnaev loaded a pressure cooker bomb just a few feet away from him. the medical examiner said it drove pieces of the bomb into the boy's body. his mother and father were in court as photos of their son were showed to the jury. they also explained how one of the piece drove through another woman's body. and there were new details of the the movements of the suspect that day. video shows him walking away from the bomb he planted before it went off. it's still unclear if tsarnaev will testify in his defense.

the suv crashed into a police vehicle. one of the suspects was killed. the other is in critical injury. a police officer suffered minor injuries. drugs an a handgun were found in the suv. >> this morning several new developments in the plane crash in the cal ps. the co-pilot who apparently crashed the plane was once treated for suicidal tendency. >> reporter: inside the head of andreas lubitz was a troubled mind. he always dreamed of flying but he'd been receiving therapy on his mind suicide. >> treatment of a psychotherapist because of what is documented as being suicidal. >> reporter: he'd seen doctors just before the crash and in recent years said the prosecutor but there was no record of

anymore aggression. evidence from his apartment shows he tried to hide his medical condition from the airline. investigators are now examining reports that that condition was bipolar disorder or manic depression. his employers now face more questions. did they know about his suicidal thoughts and if they did, they did they belief they were all in the past because this is what his boss said of lubitz last week. >> translator: he was 100% fit to fly, he says without any restrictions. the pain of the bereaved families is already immense. >> reporter: they've still not found the flight data recorder. the airline is saying it might be damaged. they've extracted the dna of around 80 victims. there's much more to see from the mental history of a troubled man who became a mass murder. >> that was bill neely reporting

welcome back to "first look." amazing time lapse video from the south carolina. it almost looks like waves. this is in the sky as showers and thunderstorms were rolling through the southeast yesterday. these are called wave clouds. it happens when you have a cold air at the surface and much warmer temperatures aloft. it creates a problem in the atmosphere and it looks like waves at the beach. >> beautiful. >> fascinating stuff to watch. everyone was taking pictures of it in the southeast. no one is taking pictures in michigan this morning. it's snowing north of droutetroit. it's going to move through

you should do unto others as you would have them do unto you. if i saw a restaurant owner refuse to serve a gay couple i wouldn't eat there. that's great but that doesn't make it illegal. >> this is not about the governor's personal dining choices. there has been a big change in this country. this is much more acceptable than it was a decade or two ago. indiana is going to suffer if they don't find a way to correct this. >> is this law even necessary at all? i think that's a lot of people are asking because the u.s. constitution, the indiana constitution, don't they both already have some strong provisions protecting religious freedom? >> well indiana could probably do a little better they don't mention gender or sexual orientation. maybe they should change that as well. big mess. >> it is. and it has a lot of people talking. just ahead, listen to this.
