documents, the 25-year-old fled unprovoked upon noticing police presence in the neighborhood. an officer noticed a knife clip dod his pants pockets. they then claim he was arrested without incident. and he suffered a medical emergency in the police van. it's that lack of evidence that has residents demanding answers. >> reporter: in baltimore, a demand for answers into how 25-year-old freddie gray suffered a spinal injury while in police custody. it happened just after 8:40 a.m. on sunday april 12th. >> get off me yo. >> reporter: cell phone video provided by the victim's attorney shows officers arresting gray and loading him into a van. police say they asked for an

inhaler. at about 8:46 a.m. they radioed he was becoming irate. at 8:59 they requested another officer to come check on gray and then they called for paramedics that rushed him to the hospital where he remained in a coma where he died. >> our information is he basically had his neck broken and his spine was almost completely severed. >> reporter: friends describe him as jokester who grew up in a rough neighborhood but was not clienlt. >> he was a good person with a good heart. it's sad he had to go out like that. >> reporter: this is only the most recent case of police brutality. over the last four years more than 100 people have won cases related to civil rights violations. the mayor was deliberate in her comments. >> he received significant

injuries. >> reporter: this could be homicide at the hands of place. >> we will go where the information takes us. >> reporter: the police released street surveillance cameras. >> to mr. gray's family i extend my condolences. to the sitcitizens of baltimore, we'll get better. >> reporter: police were not wearing body cameras. they found a switchblade on him but no guns or drugs. they now say they will turn over the full results, everything they've learned to the state attorney by the end of next week. >> tom for us in baltimore. thank you. the united states and iran could be headed to a show down as lawmakers await their chance to weigh in on the controversial nuclear deal with tehran. american warships are sailing off the coast of yemen to block iranian weapons.

three were killed but more than 90 rescues. many dragged from the surf close to shore. those lost off libya this weekend had no such luck. their ship sank in deep water at night miles from shore. only a few dozen survivors have been found. a tiny fraction of the 950 one survivor claims were on board. survivors say when this ship approached, many thought they were being rescued and rushed to one side to be seen. their boat capsized reportedly with hundreds locked below. just last week 400 migrants drowned when their ship capsized off libya. conflicts in air strike, syria and libya are pushing people to escape economic and political hardship. many are running for their lives. >> people are fleeing in desperation and not out of
