"first look" is up next. >> it's friday morning right now on "first look." as a baltimore curfew is enforced for a third night, hundreds rally in philadelphia and things get tense. meanwhile, major developments in the death of freddie gray. the second prisoner in the van with him speaks out. pope francis says even he can make mistakes and why this sea lion pup was found wandering the streets of frisk. good morning. thanks for joining us. more answers and many more questions. three major developments this morning in the death of freddie gray. a mysterious revelation about the van that was carrying him. a new report about what actually happened ntsds, and finally, the

most important witness in the case so far emerges. we start with jay gray. >> reporter: anger and emotion boiling over again in baltimore. to this point there's been no answer to their question and very little information. >> we have exhausted every lead at this point in time. >> reporter: as the task force investigating the death turned over its finding to state prosecutors, police acknowledged the van transporting him made four stops on the way to a police substation j not three as they originally indicated. >> this new stop has been -- was discovered from a privately owned camera. >> reporter: a report in the washington post citing a sealed police document says a prisoner briefly in the van but separated by a metal partition heard him banging against the walls and that he was intentionally trying to injure himself. donte allen was the man on the

other side of that van wall. he says he never saw gray and all that he heard was. >> this little boom boom this little banging. >> reporter: he also denies ever saying he was trying to hurt himself. instead he implicates police. >> when i got to the police station, i heard them saying we gave him a run for his money. basically saying they did something to him. >> reporter: and as a curfew begins for the third straight night, people promising they won't go anywhere until their questions are answered. >> in philadelphia yesterday police clash with people marching in the streets. there were two arrests but as we mentioned, while all that was happening, a major new report emerged back in maryland. local washington d.c. station wjla citing anonymous law enforcement forces saying there

is no evidence freddie gray's injuries were caused during the videotaped arrest saying the medical examiner found the injury was caused when he slammed into the back of the van. apparently breaking his neck. a head injury he sustained matches a bolt in the back of the van. as we mentioned earlier, the other in the police vehicle is now denying a washington post report that claims he told police he was intentionally trying to hurt himself. we'll show you more what he had to say to jane miller. >> when i got in the van, i didn't hear nothing. we went straight to the police station. all i heard was a little banging for four seconds. i just heard little banging. just this just little boom boom, little banging. >> did you the tell the police that you heard him banging his head against the van? >> i told homicide that. i don't work with the police. i did not tell the police

nothing. when we got to the police station they said he didn't have no pulse. they called his name. mr. gray mr. gray. he wasn't responsive. >> chris hayes spoke to the reporter holding the microphone in the interview in. the speculation is leading to another big question. >> the question i would have of the van driver at that stop is why did you make that stop? did you make that stop because you heard something in the back of the van that maybe indicated to you that something has gone wrong because the next thing he does is drive a little bit further and stop again and call for other officers coming and check on his prisoner and the police commanders have said at that point there should have been a call for the a medic and there wasn't. i think the new stop if i were zg right questions and i am in this case, my question would be

does that indicate that at that point that van driver knew that something was wrong? >> after arriving at the station, gray was taken to a hospital where he underwent spinal surgery and later died. we are hearing more the testimony in the movie massacre trial out of colorado. in court yesterday some of the first officers on the scene describe the horrors they encountered. one officer was so shaken she broke down on the stand. we also heard about the chilling moment police first spotted the gunman who has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. jacob rascon has the details. >> reporter: responding officers were ready for a gun down. >> somebody is still shooting inside fleet theater nine. >> it was horrendous. the it was a nightmare. >> reporter: patrol cars became balance

jersey is also a former ally of chris christie. according to bloom burg he will plead guilty to unspecified criminal charges. e-mails show he ordered lane closures to create some traffic problems in new jersey. the governor has denied he had anything to do with the closures and has not been implicated but the mayor claims it was done as retribution because he did not endorse christie's reelection bid. >> the barack obama presidential library will be in chicago. the library is expected to be connected to the university of chicago but the final site has yet to be decided. let's get down to business on this friday morning. good morning. >> good morning to you. u.s. stocks ended the month of april on a negative note. the dow drops about 200 points to end the month with just a.18%
