"first look" starts right now. >> good morning. tornado outbreak. the sky erupting with severe weather. 50 reported tornadoes touchg down across the u.s. places like nebraska kansas and oklahoma. one storm chaser catching the moment of impact live on air. >> you're looking at it right now. this is it. coming to the ground. three of them coming down. >> the damage from the sky, incredible. the governor declaring a state of energy. homes levelled. hotel walls ripped away. roads lost under 8 inches of water. and police using night vision gear to search a mobile home park. in kansas this. >> we have a roof that just flew through the air. this is a serious situation.

noting that people were on twitter calling for retaliation. they say one of the gunmen was reading the calls. they say he followed a suspected british isis recruiter and that isis sympathizer and was communicating with an american who specifically called for attacking the texas event a week before the attack simpson sent this tweet, dm me. a prominent pro-isis website shows this picture as isis followers continue claiming credit. they say simpson was one of 400 people in the west deeply embedded in jihadist tweets. they say shutting down accounts is virtually impossible. >> when twitter takes down accounts they open new ones but

it takes some time for followers to find the new accounts. >> reporter: monitoring twitter messages tipped off the fbi in many isis related terror cases but officials say it's a huge chore with more than five thousand people following. >> a new report claims to have found nearly 1600 irs who cheated on their taxes. tracie potts the live in washington. we're learning that many of these employees kept their jobs. >> reporter: not only did they keep their jobs. some were promoted. they got raises and bonuses after the irs discovered that they cheated on their taxes. the agency also says many of these people face disciplinary action either they were suspended or they had some sort of reprimand. last year they started deny

bonuses to people who were found cheating on their taxes. they claimed too many dependents filing taxes late deliberately orb or claiming the first time home buyers credit when they didn't buy a home at all. there were 18,000 people that the inspector general found did owe back taxes but did not willfully cheat on their taxes. to put all in this perspective, we're talking about 160 people a year. this was over a 10-year period. there are more than 85,000 people who work for the irs. >> thanks so much for that report. now to rome where pope francis has just joined the harlem globe trotters. he was made an honorary member during their tour of italy. >> we all just met the pope and we're excited. we've been able to do a lot of things in our life and meeting the pope is probably at the top of the list.

>> that is your morning dish of scrambled politics. bob franken joins us from washington. good morning to you. let's talk about iowa. this new poll showing jeb bush at the bottom of the field. >> first of all, he's not a declared candidate. second of all, what you have in the republican party right now is most of the attention being paid by the base. that is to say the cultural conservatives, the tea party types, that kind of thing. jeb bush is not their favorite. there are several other candidates or candidate want to bes who really say what they want to say. the question will become when the others start focusing more on the election. and marco rubio, florida governor there, too, seems to be gaining ground with immigration in the forefront. how do you think he's going to fair there? >> he is one of the ones they're ambivalent about. on the one hand many of the positions he's taken on

immigration are the kind that are not particularly favored by those who are on the right. but he is a fresh face and thus far he has been well received within the party. >> and let's talk about immigration here. hillary clinton came out yesterday making campaign promises that she's going to reform immigration but the white house said that president obama really did as much as legally possible. do you think she's going to be able to keep up with those promises? >> well what we're talking about now are campaign promises. and i know this will surprise you but oftentimes campaign promises are something we can't say on television. she's making all kinds of promises and the question is whether she or any of the politicians will be able to keep half of what they promised. >> it really is quite a big field coming up. who do you think is going to surprise us the most this season? >> well who i think is going to surprise us the most is probably

the press reports on the various candidates. i think that one of the surprises for hillary clinton has been that she has had such a struggle gaining traction because all the questions that have come up about ther veracity that type of thing. it's going to be quite interesting to see in the republican field just which of the candidates is going to in fact surprise people. is it going to be rand paul? is he going to be the one who catches fire? is it going to be jeb bush after he finally announces and takes advantage of all the money he's raised. the real question is would it be surprised if we were predicting what the surprise would be. >> we're right there with you. thank you for your input. just ahead alarming new numbers on climate change and get ready to kiss those arctic glaciers good-bye.
