and thought somebody's house was burning. >> when chloe is in the car, they investigate. when father and daughter arrive on scene, they see the town's fertilizer plant is on fire. >> it's getting down low. >> hurt has his phone recording as he and chloe watch the blaze. >> we figured we would get it collapsing on film. >> first responders descend on the scene. one of the volunteer firefighters is west mayor, tommy mushka. >> i was at home. i noticed the smoke, a big pillar of black smoke, out my window. so i gathered my gear and i made my way to the scene. we had chemicals in that building. >> chemicals like ammonia, which can be extremely dangerous near flames and high temperatures.

derrick and chloe are about 150 yards away from the burning plant thinking it's a safe distance. >> we are sitting there waiting. we hear a lot of popping and debris falling from the building. and the wind gusts picking up. and then it makes the fire just start popping and getting louder. you feel the excitement everybody around me that it was fixing to collapse. >> there is no collapse, but what happens next terrifies them. >> are you okay? >> i can't hear. >> cover your ears. >> i can't hear. >> the force of the explosion is so great, hurt drops his phone. but it's still recording audio. >> please get out of here. please get out of here. >> when the plant exploded, all i could think of was, i'm dead, or, my dad's dead. i can't hear. >> cover your ears. >> i can't hear. >> god almighty [ bleep ]. >> francisco is also close to

the fire when the explosion happens. but he's not in his car. he's exposed to the elements. >> i see the wave like a heat wave. >> god almighty [ bleep ]. >> when the place blow up, i figure we were going to die. i seen some of the debris falling. i feel like i was in a war zone. >> a short distance away, chloe and her dad are also caught in the debris field. >> i realized we lived through the initial blast, and then you hear all this debris falling around you. >> please get out of here. >> hurt speeds off to escape the smoke and debris. >> after even looking around everything around us, all the houses that was destroyed, i was kind of wondering how we made it out of that. >> rodarte and hurt post their videos on you tube. they quickly go viral with millions of hits apiece. >> i see the video. i say, oh, my god, i was at the

right place at the right time. good lord was watching over us because the explosion was so big and here i am, alive, to tell a lot of people, you know, what it was like. >> you have this pretty spring afternoon. and just in a split second i'm stepping out of truck and looking around. and i see a school destroyed beside me. and then i looked north of me, and there is an apartment complex completely destroyed. and all the people that were out watching the explosion, everybody was gone. and it just seemed like, you know, like a ghost town. >> 15 perish in the fertilizer plant explosion. ten of them are volunteer firefighters. another 252 are injured. the cause of the fire is unknown, but is still under investigation. the fire burns all night. the extent of the devastation is revealed at day break. homes are destroyed, including mayor mushka's.

an average workday at a jewelry exchange quickly turns frightening. but a store manager is ready to face any danger that walks in the door. >> the rob her a knife and a crow bar. he could have hit me, could have killed me. for me, it's like it's either me or him. >> june 28th, 2013, calgary, in canada's alberta province. it's early afternoon and a few customers are doing business in a gold and silver exchange shop run by simon zeiter. >> we sell precious metals, gold and silver bars. we take them off of the stock market and whenever you come into our store you buy and sell f. a customer comes in and he would like to buy some gold or silver we have it in stock. >> the security video is silent but the cameras record whoever is this the store from two angles? >> the two customers were two investors and a lady who was selling some jewelry.

we were just having a great conversation of the finances. >> zeiter, behind the counter is out of camera view. he is watching two men outside the glass door. >> it felt wrong, their presence. you saw them already before they entered the store. and i have a switch on my right side where i just lock the store. i was reaching for the switch that's like a panic button and closes the door but i was too late. >> because it's bright outside the camera doesn't show the men until they open the door. when the two masked men barge in one of them tries to lock the door behind him but can't. >> when they walk in, they are like this is a robbery give me everything you have. and i was like no way. >> at first the customers are too stunned to react. >> they didn't know what to do because they weren't sure what i was going to do, how i was going to react. because if i'm not going to do anything, why should they risk their lives?

one guy had a knife and the other one had a crow bar. the one guy went behind the counter towards me with the knife. and the other guy was like, don't do anything stupid, you know, threatening the lady. >> one of the customers opens the door for another to escape. but he doesn't run when he has the chance. instead, he grabs a stool and bars the door. >> one of my customers just helped the woman outside the door, and they let her leave. i don't know why. i guess they had more important things to think about. the men are so focused on grabbing the gold, they don't realize decider has a different kind of metal behind his counter. an aluminum baseball bat. >> there was jewelry on the counter that the lady was going to sell because the guy broke the glass all the jewelry fell in. so the guy was trying to pick up the jewelry that fell into the case and pick up all the other stuff that was in there, too. and while he was doing that, he wasn't watching me, so he couldn't see me swinging the

bat. so for me, when i swang the bat, i was like go for it, we'll see what happens. >> with one swing, the man is knocked out. >> i think i hit him way too hard. like because i just went with full force and just hit him on the head. so he just went down and went -- he was on the ground. i was like oh, no, what did i do, right? he had a mask on, i could see the blood going into his mask. it was a scary feeling because i was like i didn't know -- what did i do now, you know? he just went down, he didn't brace himself or anything. >> the second man tries to drag his injured accomplice out of the store. but when he meets resistance at the door, he drops his partner and attempts to save himself. >> so when i clocked the guy, they were just panicked but then the customer took the bar stool they had. it looked like the lion trainers in the circus, he was like you were not going anywhere until the cops come. for me i was like, why, please just get those people out of

here. >> the man escapes, but not without zeiter taking one last swing. the other would be robber is disoriented. he attempts to steady him. >> he was coming around again. so one of my customers, he saw it. so he came in there and just made sure like he would stay down, basically. so he gave him a few nice kicks and kicked the knife away. >> the customer then steps out of store and signals for help from local firefighters who just happened to be across the street. >> so they came over. and then they were looking at the situation. they weren't exactly sure what was happening, but they could see he was wearing a mask so they figured he was the bad guy. they just tried to him but he was still like thinking he would get away. i don't think he was thinking they were going to hold them down. because they are firemen, not koss, you know? he was screaming the whole time. like when they are holding him down. he was really strong because there were four or five firemen just holding him down.

in the beginning, he was stupid, but the more conscious he got the more he just wanted to get out of the situation. >> a few minutes later, police arrived and the masked man is taken into custody. he is charged with robbery and possession of a weapon. he hasn't pled yet. his accomplice is not caught. the men strike out on this apparent robbery because zeiter strikes back. >> i do not play baseball, but it worked. in another store, a manager takes on a thief almost twice her size. >> i knew i was a strong person before that happened. but i didn't know i was that strong. >> the ordeal is captured by several store security cameras. september, 2013, san antonio, texas. candidate store manager juanika mckinney reports to her job at the dollar general. >> that day it was busy.

constant traffic in and out. >> by the end of the day the heavy store traffic winds down. security camera video shows one employee manning a register in the front while mckinney works in the back. >> i usually head towards the back to make my runs double-check all the aisle, make sure everything is nice. >> about 10:00 p.m. a man walks through the door and within seconds his intentions are clear. security camera video shows him make a beeline for the register. he sticks what appears to be a pistol in the store clerk's back. he forces her over to another area. mckinney, still several aisle away has a hunch that something is wrong. >> when it got too quiet, i realized something was going on. as i was making my way to the warehouse area, the cashier called my name. and she doesn't usually scream my name across the store like that. i immediately went to the front. the cashier wasn't in her normal

area so i went looking for her in the break room. she was there with the robber. he had the gun held to her head. i freaked -- i like literally jumped back. and he was like oh, no, get back in there. >> in the break room they are out of camera view. >> he was telling us to get on the ground and then he was asking about the money. >> frightened the women do as they are told. security camera video shows the man forcing the cashier to lock the front door. then he takes them to a storage room in the back, where he demands that mckinney tie up her coworker. >> i was freaking out. i initially even told him, i can't do that. >> he's like get down there and do it. we got down on the ground and i did it as loosely as i could. i don't want to hurt her. and then i got up and then he was like okay, let's go to the front of the store now and get the money. >> mckinney says he is familiar with the store's layout and knows about a timed password protected safe. >> he is like i know we have to

wait nine minutes. he knows we have to wait. he knows there is another area. >> mckinney punches in the password, but with nine minutes to wait the robber makes use of the time. he has mckinney take out the cash from the register. it's then emptied into a plastic bag off camera. he also does some last-minute shopping. >> he wanted to go get some cigarettes. so go to the cigarette cab net. he only wanted a particular brand. i thought that was really crazy. and i was like okay this guy is really comfortable. he is having a good time, it seem. and we go back and he is like how much longer to the safe. >> under his watchful eye, mckinney does a time check on the safe again. i'm telling him how much longer, and during the time i had to push the code back in to see. as i wait for the safe, i tell him i'm waiting, i'm waiting. he's getting irritated. and he is like do you really want to lose your life over this money. and i was like i'm not doing anything i'm trying to open the safe i just have to wait.

he's like i'm not playing with you. now he is getting angry. >> within two minutes before the safe unlocks the robber wants to pick up one more item. >> he is like show me where the bags are. i take him to the bags picking out a back and he is like i want a black on black bag and i'm like this guy is living it up. i'm getting if bag and putting the money into the book bag and the money bag just falls and the natural reaction for both of us is to go down and pick it up with me. his hoodie falls over his head and he is discombobulated and i reached over and grab it, and the gun just pushed. >> it turns out the gun is a toy. >> so after that it was over. i was like wait a minute. like you have been terrorizing us for the last 20 minutes, and you don't even have a real weapon? so at that time, i was like, game on. >> he may not have a real gun,

but he is an imposing figure. still, she lungs at him. the petite woman drags the 200-pound thief to his knees. >> a whole new reaction came over me. i felt just a sense of empowerment almost, like i was really trying to hurt him. i really wanted to hurt him. i wanted to beat this guy down for doing to this to us. i was a little angry. and then at one point during the struggle i was like i can't continue to fight this guy i've got to get some help. this guy is is a guy, he's bigger than me. i decided okay let me stop fighting and get out of here. that's when i tried to run. but he had my wrist. so i was like, well, you can come with me. i decided to drag him to the door. i was going to get out of there. i was going to get help some way. so i'm struggling to get the door open. that's when he like jumps on my back. i'm like oh, my gosh, this is not happening. so i finally get the door unlocked. and i like fall out the door. he's on top of me. and then he sees that there is someone else outside. and that's when it's like, okay,

and he high tails it off. >> mckinney's coworker in the back room wiggles her hands free from the loose knot. she dashes to the front of the store. mckinney calls the police. when officers arrive to investigate, i doesn't take long to crack the case. >> he dropped his keys. so he ran to his car, and he couldn't leave, so he hid down in the seat and when the police came, they got him. >> the masked man is michael gaines. he is convicted of robbery and sentenced to six years in prison. he isn't charged with armed robbery because his gun was a fake. police also learn that his visit to mckinney's store wasn't his first. >> he was a customer. i recognized his voice, and i was like, i can't believe this is someone that i've dealt with, doing this. you know, for him to be acting like that. >> mckinney and her colleague aren't hurt but she says if something like this ever happens again, she'll just hand over the cash. >> just because this outcome was

good does not mean the next one would be. so i will be very cooperative and will never try anything like that again. coming up, a journey heats up for a tourist. when "caught on camera, fight or flight" returns.

a leisurely bike ride comes to a halt for two tourists. it's a battle between a gunman and a sight seer who doesn't want to give up his backpack. september 16th, 2014, buenos aires, argentina. the city is called the paris of south america for its rich european heritage and architecture. canadian alex hennessy is stopping here at the end of a five-month journey through central and south america. >> i started in guatemala, went to el salvador, panama, colombia, ecuador, peru, peru down into bolivia, chile,

argentina, uruguay, back into argentina. >> his friend, mike graziano, is traveling through central and south america with him. >> yes! >> these globe trotting, adventure-seeking, backpacking enthusiasts are not just having fun. they are on a mission. they are working to get sponsors to fund their travel and eventually invest in others who want to experience the world. >> mike and i have come up with this idea to travel around the entire globe, 195 u.n. recognized nations in five years is the plan right now. and the idea is to try to expose travel and promote travel and you know, have an adventure of our own. >> they capture their experiences on camera and upload them to a you tube channel called global degree. with a few clicks viewers can follow their adventures.

after traveling through their first ten countries the friends are visiting argentina's capital. locals suggest a great way to experience the city. >> the day we arrive in buenos aires they encouraged to us do a bike tour. hennessy records the ride with an outward facing go pro camera strapped to his helmet. he and mike explore the city with a group of about a dozen other tourists. >> took us to a bunch of other areas, beautiful landmarks and sights to see. >> just like most beautiful cities, this one has an ugly side. and the group is pedaling straight toward it. >> we were biking along, you know, a set bike lane. and this van is coming through the intersection, and a motorcycle jets towards me across the street. i thought he was a terrible driver. jesus [ bleep ]. he and i almost have a

collision. that's when i bike around him and i thought it was funny that this guy was such a terrible driver. >> what happens next is anything but a joke. >> then he pulled up to me. when he pulled up, he started pulling out a pistol. when i first saw the pistol, i felt he was road raging because we almost got into an accident. so there was a moment of confusion on my behalf. >> i don't know what you are saying, man. >> my spanish is terrible but i definitely know what he was saying. i knew he meant backpack. and then it was clear to me when he said backpack he was looking to steal my camera gear. >> hennessy has $4,000 worth of camera equipment in his bag. he has to think fast because his life may depend on what he does next. does he take flight, or stay and fight? he refuses to hand over the backpack. >> i don't know what you are saying, man. >> pretending he doesn't understand what the man is saying. >> when i offered him the bicycle. >> do you want the bike? >> i thought that would give me

space so i could probably make a getaway. >> a risky move. the pistol wielding motorcyclist is growing more agitated. with the bicycle now between them, hennessy makes another dangerous play. >> so i started running and the pack back that i had on me was about 30 pounds. so it was hard for me to run at any speed. he caught me pretty quickly. he had me against the fence and he actually had the gun in my gut and at my leg. that's when i started really thinking he was going to shoot me. >> off camera, mike sees his friend cornered and runs to his aid. >> and i just wanted to remove alex from the situation. so i grabbed the back of his backpack and kind of pulled him backwards and had my hands in the air saying amigo, no amigo. no, no, no. >> i managed to buy enough time before mike got to me and before the tour guide got to me. he hadn't shot yet and now he was in a situation where he would have to shoot three people. >> hennessy runs again.

>> at that point, his entire interest was the backpack. it wasn't interested in shooting anybody. when i was running i saw in my peripheral vision him running in the opposite direction. he was bailing out. i felt this banging on my head. i forgot i had the go pro. it looks like i am taking a selfie. but i was just seeing if i was recording. luckily there was a police officer close by. i was recording that whole thing. >> police find the would be thief within the week. but so far, no charges are filed against him. while promoting tourism is their goal, hennessy and graziano can't resist uploading the compelling video. it goes viral.

>> we went through this ethical dilemma, should we release it or not? because it's such an incredible piece of footage, we did. >> as for the traveling duo, this incident hasn't soared their taste for travel or adventure. they moved on to brazil after the harrowing experience. >> i think it's important to approach people like a friend with a open heart and an open mind. for the most part, if you do approach with that attitude you are well received. >> we're going to go to every country. it's never fair to judge one country by one bad person or one bad incident. i think we are going to be more precaution going forward. we are not stopping no matter what. coming up. thieves take desperate measures to escape. when caught on camera, fight or flight, returns.

a high-speed chase has a city on edge. >> i've never seen anything like that before. what were they thinking. >> oh, this is it. >> sin out. >> that's it. >> january 26th, 2013, oklahoma city, oklahoma. it's friday, about 5:00 p.m. and reporters at kfor, the local nbc affiliate, are covering a

developing story. >> and we are following some breaking news in eastern oklahoma county. >> it's rush hour. and police are tailing an suv that is driving erratically. >> john welsh up there, speeds excess of 106 miles per hour, john, what can you tell us about this. >> right now we're showing you looks like a white suburban or a tahoe pulling a trailer. >> john welsh is the chopper pilot. he and his camera man have a bird' eye view of the pursuit. the chase is going on 15 minutes before he starts flying over the vehicle. >> we heard it as a stolen vehicle. we took off in the general direction. you could tell there was more than one person in there because different windows were opening up. they were all over the road. >> news anchors are not on camera during the coverage but their audio is clear as they report live from the anchor desk. >> oh, my goodness, i tell you what, there is going to be something bad happen here. >> they were flying down the road.

they were hauling a trailer. what i understand, they had loaded something onto a trailer and the homeowner came out and they took off. whatever they loaded on the trail fell off. he called the authorities and the race was on. >> police race to keep up with the suv as it zips through busy streets. an outward facing dash camera captures the dangerous road. >> we are told police are struggling trying to stop him because they couldn't use their normal maneuvers because of the trailer on the back of the tahoe. >> the people may not realize the trailer is hindering the police. while traveling at unsafe speeds they unhitch it. >> look at that guy, kevin, he is outside the back. >> he let it go. >> there it is, it's gone. >> the trailer has gone into the median. kevin, i've never seen anything like that before in my life. >> the window was broken out. they had plastic out over the

back of it. they tore a hole in there and unhooked the trailer as they are doing 70 miles an hour down the road. >> the trailer careens into oncoming traffic narrowing missing a car that has to swerve out of its path. >> the trailer, who knows where it would have gone. they didn't care who was in their path at that point. >> the suv goes out of chopper view. but this does not help to slow down the reckless drive driving. viewers watch the breaking news coverage live as the camera on very well of's chopper shows the vehicle barrelling through enter sections. >> oh, oh. >> zigzagging in and out of traffic. >> this does not look like it's going to end well. >> and swerving through a gas station. >> yeah, this is a very crowded area. >> all in an attempt to evade police. >> we are not seeing any police cars around here. >> there is no police helicopter in the air but dispatch is watching kfor's live coverage and is keeping officers informed of the car's every turn.

>> we have a really good working relationship with the local police departments here and the dispatch center. they are watching us on tv. so they are kind of seeing what we are doing. and they can relay to the police officers. >> you know, we've still got the eye in the sky, man. you are not going anywhere that we don't know about. no matter how fast their car is, no married how great a getaway driver they think they are, you never realize you can't outrun a police two-way radio. they always seem to try. that's the thing that makes you scratch your head. >> the white suv pulls off the congested roads and turns into a residential area. >> this guy is becoming a definite hazard to everybody. >> absolutely. that's a deadly threat. >> out of camera view, police start closing the distance. someone throws what turns out to be stolen goods from the suv. >> that seems to be the course oh, there is more.

>> threw that out of the car. >> an officer with the oklahoma county police department is in the vicinity of the suv. he joins other patrol units in pursuit. >> i see three units in pursuit. and i see three other units that are just kind of in the area waiting. >> they had complete disregard for public safety. they were traveling at high speeds, weaving in and out of traffic, narrowing missing cars, and traveling into oncoming traffic. >> the suv is about to go under an overpass and out of camera view for a few seconds. that's when something happens. >> well, will is the underpass. oh. >> oh, this is it. >> spin out. >> that's it. that's it. all right. >> i could see him strike a pole. and at that point, it just looked like an entire explosion of the back of the vehicle. at that point, i thought it was over. >> but it's not. these people are determined to escape. >> the car kept sparking. and they still kept going. and they run these cars to the rims. i mean, they run the tires off of them in these high-speed

chases. and this was no different. >> they are not going to go very far. tire steel is not very good so they are grinding it done very quickly? the vehicle grinds to a stop and a flame shoots out from the back wheel well just inches away from the car's gas tank. officers close in but they robbers still refuse to surrender. >> you have got to be kidding me is that once the car chase is over, many times the foot chase begins. but the police officer was able to drag him down. >> i thought if this guy goes this the pawn shop, he is going to be get shot. looked like he was running right for pawn shop. at the last minute he turned and went away and he was able to get tazed and put into custody. >> the man is down. >> there is another one over there. three. i'm seeing another one over there. >> three total. >> uh-huh. >> wesley kidder, curtis spencer and bethany tie tower plead guilty to burglary and attempting to elude a police officer, among other charges. despite putting so many people

caught in the act. a homeowner confronts a man trying to break into his house. >> he got one hook on the porch, and i just realized, if i'm going to have a tussle with

somebody i figure i better get it on camera. >> november, 2014, seattle, washington. andrew myers and his girlfriend megan pirowitz live in busy part of the city. >> we are on an arterial road so we get a lot of traffic. and we live in corner house so we get a lot of walking traffic to bus stops and stuff. >> it's not justice his reasons residence, he runs a media company. >> my business is downstairs, and i live upstairs with my girlfriend and my dog. i've lived here four years now. i definitely would call this home. >> it's saturday evening. as the couple settles in for the night, someone walks through the gate. >> it's always somebody that works for us here just coming or going. being that it was 7:30, we were laughing fully expecting it to be somebody that we know. >> myers peek out of a window and recognizes the have iter. but it's not a friend. four days earlier, a neighbor tells myers about seeing a

suspicious man wandering around his property in the wee hours of the morning. he scrolls through his home security videos for a look. >> we were watching the cameras waiting for the guy to come down the fence line and come in the yard. all of a sudden he comes from inside the house. i tell you, witt haven't been that scared in a very, very long time. >> myers doesn't save the video, but he keeps pixelated screen shots of the man who stayed in his unlocked base men for several hours, leaving at day break, wearing a momento from his stay. >> he stole one of our shirts from the studio down stairs. you could see when he was leaving that he was casing the place. >> myers immediately upgrades his security system buy adding a chime sound that alerts him when someone walks through the gate. now he is watching the man walk through his yard and head for the side door that leads to his work space. >> he can see me because i'm standing in a dark room. sure enough, it's like the same guy. i'm like, babe, it's the dude.

i don't think i ever would have really had any too many hard feelings about the first night he spend here. i left my door unlocked. thing happen. when i looked out the window and saw his face and that he was back. it confuse mood and anycism thee that i had for the man left. >> he jiggles the door, but it's locked. he circles around to the front door. in his socks, myers confronts the man while they are both out of camera view. myers says the unwelcomed guest takes the first swing. he pulls the man down the stairs and into camera view. the man may have about 40 pounds on myers, but myers is an army veteran skilled at combat fighting. >> when i wake up in the morning i feel like a pretty tough guy. i'm coming more to grips with the fact that i definitely don't look like one. he saw me and thought, yeah, like you are not going to tell me i am a waiting for the cops.

it just didn't go the way he thought it would. my focus isn't necessarily instinct or choice. at that point it was preservation. >> myers sits on the man and delivers several blows to his face. >> it's difficult to get away when somebody is sitting on your armpits, basically. he definitely found himself in a bad spot and had no idea how to get out of it. it's like not knowing the combination to a lock. you are sort of stuck. >> pinned down the hooded man tries unsuccessfully to fight back. myers' girlfriend megan calls 911. >> i hid out in our bedroom and did what i had to do. i went outside after that. and i had my mace just in case anything happened. >> you will see miss arm kind of tuck out behind me. i switched to hitting him with an elbow, and it really only took one before you see his knee shoot straight out and he kind of leaned back and he was semiconscious. i think any plans he had trying to strategize out of the scenario left him. you will see him sort of sigh and kick his shoes off.

i think that's the moment where the fight left him. >> police arrest the man and escort him off the premises. no charges are pressed at this time. knowing the video is being recorded myers gestures to the camera. laid hear the night he uploads the video to you tube. and it immediately goes viral. >> i had made light of the situation all week trying to set everyone's mine at ease that this wasn't something they needed to worry about. for me, it was like this was the conclusion of the story. >> what if something like this happens again? >> i definitely will never find myself out there in socks and underwear again. >> from a fight with fists to a brawl with bounce? september 30th, 2014. gold coast, new south wales, australia. rodly langham is home enjoying a cold one when he hears a commotion.

asudden attack, and a stunning rescue. >> our first reaction was oh, my god, did you see that cat? >> may 14th, 2014, bakersfield, california. this sunny city, lying north of los angeles, is surrounded by rich farmland. and for natives roger and erica, it's home. >> i have three children, and two animals, which would be a cat, and a dog.

>> tara, the family's tabby cat, nudged her way into erica and roger's hearts of a she followed them home from a soccer field six years earlier. and soon she becomes part of the family. and she is especially attached to their eldest son, 5-year-old jeremy. >> she has always been there. every since jeremy was a baby she would sit on my lap while i held jeremy. she would sit next to his bassinet. she was always loving on him. >> she is always close to jeremy n the home and out in the neighborhood. it is a safe neighborhood but roger a self described techie installs security cameras outside the house, just in case. the cameras are recording when jeremy comes home from school. >> he was just outside playing. i was watering some plants. he didn't want to go in right away. so it was a beautiful day. why not let him enjoy the front yard. tara had followed me out like she does every day. >> jeremy is riding his brother's bicycle with his

mother close by. he was he hadly within my view. if you can see your child you are never really worried about your child. >> what she doesn't see is the neighbor's dog on the other side of this suv. without warning, the dog attacks. >> it wasn't really until i heard him scream for me that i realized something was terribly wrong. when i saw the way he was jerking him, the way he was pulling him off of his bicycle, it never crossed my mind that the dog could actually have my son's leg. i assumed because of the jerking motion and the pulling motion he had my son's pants and it wasn't until later that i realized oh, my gosh, he had my son. >> and just as quickly, tara the cat springs into action, defending her boy. >> i have no idea what i would have done without her. she tackled the dog completely. she chased him away. and took care of my son when i had no idea what was happening.

>> erica runs off to make sure the dog isn't coming back. roger rushes home from work to be with his family. he's talking to the police when he has a revelation. >> that's when it dawned on me to check the footage from the security cameras. i grabbed my laptop, logged in and sat out front with the officer and we watched it for the first time. and that was when we saw tara come out. and our first reaction to that was, oh, my god, did you see the cat. >> i think we rewound the tape about, you know, four or five times. just rewatching it. you see tara kind of run after him. she flips around right then, sees erica my wife contamination to jeremy's aid. takes off after the dog chases him away further and makes sure he is clear. >> i would say tara was definitely acting on her fight and flight response. >> she did that out of a sense of love for him because there is no other way that i think a cat would want to take on a dog of that size.

with' had dogs in the yard before and she has never gone after them. for her, i think it was a fight response to help jeremy out. >> jeremy gets ten stitches in his leg and makes a full recovery. roger posts the video of the fearless feline on line. it quickly goes viral and gets national media attention. >> the video lating up the air today, it shows a young boy in bakersfield, californiaing being attacked by a neighbor's dog. then an unexpected hero comes to the rescue, his pet cat tara. >> tara reacted the way any cat would, with requests for more salmon. >> i think she is definitely wanting to stay in the spotlight as far as she is concerned, continuing to to be pampered and loved on. >> we've always loved tara. so it's never been an issue. but you know, i think she definitely deserves a little bit extra, every day. >> tara is my hero.
