>> good morning. it's friday may 29th. welcome to "way too early," the show that gives you everything you need to know plus sports weather and fun stories that you may have missed. we're coming to you live from washington d.c. we begin this morning with a political story that has this town buzzing. it has nothing to do with 2016. it is on the cover of newspapers across the country today. dennis hastert the longest serving republican speaker in the history of the house is now facing years behind bars after being indicted. he's accused of violating banking laws by trying to hide more than $900,000 in withdrawals but it seems this is more than just some financial irregularities. they were take ton hide past

misconduct and then he lied about it when questioned. here is what we know about the case and the unnamed individual. the indictment says individual a. confronted has tert in 2010 and he agreed to pay co-conceal the alleged misconduct. the person grew up next to hastert's hometown where he once taught high school and coached wrestling. they say the alleged misconduct happened years earlier than 2010 and the person has known has hastert's his or her life. and his coaching and attaching is mentioned in the first few parts of the indictment. >> they could have picked some other things because he went from being a high school teacher to a member of the illinois general assembly.

that's not in this document that we have. i think the people who -- the lawyers who drafted this did this for a reason. otherwise, what material nature is this? i think in due time because chicago investigative reporters have a great tradition of figuring these things out, i'll bet we'll know who vij a. is in a matter of time. >> prosecutors say the exspeaker made $50,000 withdrawals at various banks. when a bank questioned those withdrawals, he started to take out less than the $10,000. that way the transactions would not have to be reported but the fbi began investigating the withdrawals and interviewed hastert about him. prosecutors say he denied trying to skirt banking rules or that

the cash was being used as hush money. he said he was keeping the money because he did not trust the banking system. we'll have more on this story throughout the day and you have to know an army of reporters is now on the ground. expect more to come out. let's keep it on the alleged scandal beat. in a few hours members of soccer's international governing body are going to elect their next president. this comes two days after indictments were handed down to nine high ranking officials despite the scandal, and john going investigations it's expected that seth blatter will be able to defeat his challenger. yesterday in his first public comments since the news of the indictments broke. he didn't back down. peter alexander has more. >> reporter: under fire as never before, his top lieutenants indicted and facing calls for

executives pocketed at least $1,500 million in bribes and kickbacks. fifa takes in billions worldwide. sponsors paid fifa more than $1.6 billion. visa signed a $170 million deal to sponsor the world cup. they're demanding steps be taken to address the issues. they are threatening to readdress their sponsorship if they doercht clean up their about. >> the u.s. has come out and said publicly that it will vote for blatter's opponent. it's blatter's support in the asian federation that many experts believe will carry him to a fifth term. it will be a telling vote. speaking of telling votes, let's turn to politics. sitting rock bottom in the

but peter king, he had some much tougher words for senator paul. >> i think rand paul should be a leading contender for the democratic nomination for'. this is classic anti-republican type of propaganda that's been spewed over the years. he does not belong in the republican party when he carries that message. >> also in his interview king says he has not closed the door on running for president. >> how seriously are you considering getting into it? >> i've been up in new hampshire about nine times. i'll make a decision in the next month. i'm still looking at it. in any event, we can't allow the republican party to fall into hands of those who are anti-defense and who would weaken our national security. >> make no mistake, he wants to run, a national security based campaign. the emotions that rand paul skirs up in that party is

fascinating to see. here's another issue. the senate is coming to town late this weekend to stop what many are calling a national security nightmare. sections of the pie trot about, they expire sunday night and also two other provisions. with the house in recess until monday people admit nothing will be done before this drop dead deadline. all eyes are on kentucky senators majority leader mitch mcconnell leading the fight for reauthorization and rand paul who is preventing mcconnell from reaching the vote threshold for even temporary extensions. it's going to be a fun one to watch in d.c. let's go to colorado. did the bat man movie massacre suspect know what he was doing? a court appointed psychiatrist says yes. they say he was mentally ill but legally sane. they say he was able to

determine the consequences of the shooting. holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. this is the first time a mental health professional who examined him testified in front of the jury. let's turn the page to business on this gdp friday. the government report comes out later today. economists are expecting to learn the u.s. economy shrank in the first quarter mostly due to the brutal winter and rising value of the dollar. we also got news overnight that jpmorgan has begun cutting job. it's part of a plan to trim costs and move toward mobile banking. the bank has reportedly cut 1,000 positions and plans to cut an additional 4,000. also overseas on markets after stocks in china took a massive plunge yesterday. let's bring in hadly gamble from london to talk about this.

it's friday afternoon in china. how are they doing now? the shanghai took the tumble yesterday. >> yes. the chinese equities ending much like they began dropping off about 4%. it was a mixed week. the shanghai composite plummets 6 %. the equities took heavy investment in the last week. i want to get to one story with legs even here overseas. that's the fact that the chairman of wall greens the u.s.'s largest pharmaceutical company has said that president obama made the company his whipping boy and he essentially said this after president obama accused them of trying to game the system. that's by moving their head quarters overseas. there was a major merger between

wall greenes and alliance. they were talking about moving. that was smacked down by the press and the white house h. he said they were taking the opportunity to select the company and even think about inverting and using them as a whipping boy relative to the further their agenda. they say the company is going to stay in the united states but he's not very happy with the white house. >> yeah. they made a big pr push for that. i remember that story. the other thing i want to ask you about. big news coming from google. what are they coming up with? >> some crazy new things this. they're going to allow you to see vd on your iphones. via a cardboard box. you get a box and put your iphone in it and look through the little eye holes and you can see virtually wall reality. it's exciting. you also have the big folks at google deciding to give back.

this is north north texas. we're still talking storms through the dallas area down to corpus christi. a renewed threat of flooding with additional storms today and tomorrow and then the rain machine finally shuts off. that is going to be good news. let's go to the radar. i want to show you what we have. it is a lot of active weather. strong storms through the dallas area. this line is starting to weaken as it moves toward houston. later today these storms will fire up once again with cold air from the north clashing with the moist air coming up from the gulf. the slight risk area is western texas. lubbock under the gun later today along with san angelo where we could see large hail and flooding rains the issue. they're up. over the next three days 1 to 3 inches of rain. it depends how slowly the storms move. there's a look at your forecast across the country. >> it's remarkable.
