a goose gets her feathers ruffled and goes on the attack pick aing fight with a man and his dog. >> i have seen crazy animals before, but this goose was right up there on the top level. >> want to see who ends up at the top of this pecking order? the entire ordeal is recorded on home video. it's spring 2008 in virginia beach, and todd barns takes -- >> it's a nice spring afternoon. gabby is about as docile and even-tempered as they come. if i get on that boat, she's there with me. >> on recent trips so does a recent canada goose. >> my wife wanted to go out and film the goose flying along side the boat.
11:55 am
she kind of twopd this habit of liking to fly and go out on the boat ride, and we don't know if it's because she expected us to feed her or she just liked flying along side the boat. my wife had a couple of friends that wanted to see a video of the goose flying next to the boat, so i said, sure, i'll go out after dinner. sfloot goose is no stranger to the barnes family. she's one of five geese that have made a home for themselves in this quiet area known as north bay. this goose stands out from the gaggle. >> they stayed in the area. they were kind of local geese. they were resident geese. this one was pretty cool. this was a nice goose. she hung out in the yard. you know, she -- when somebody came by, she would honk. she was kind of like a watchdog. barnes captures a beautiful video of the bird. when this so-called watchdog started acting more like a bulldog. at first the real dog, gabby, seems pretty blase about the goose. barnes figures the bird will provide for entertaining home
11:56 am
video, but he doesn't know how entertaining it's about to get. as barnes gets his camera rolling and with gabby minding her own business, something goes haywire. >> the goose started honking at us and getting aggressive as soon as we got on the dock. i noticed she was focused on the dog more than anything. what i expected to happen is i would go out and the goose would honk a couple of times, and then we would jump in the boat and take off and the goose would fly like she always does and fly right next to us and we would videotape and reach out and touch her wing and while she was flying. what happened was the direct opposite. the goose got real aggressive. start attacking the dog. staurtd attacking me. >> with wings flack and beak open, she takes a nip at gabby's neck. then the angry bird goes after the dog's tail. >> she didn't expect the
11:57 am
onslaught of aggression that the goose laid on her there at the end. she kind of kept looking at me like is this goose really doing this to me and you're not letting me deal with it? >> crazy goose. >> when barnes grabs the goose by the neck, the bird becomes even more foul. >> i was just trying to get it out of the boat. >> the first thing i thought when the goose jumped in the boat was maybe it was a one-time charge at the dog and she was going to go in there and once i grabbed her by the neck and tossed her out, it was going to be it, and the goose just went crazy and started attacking me and the dog. >> get. >> i had told gabby not to attack the goose simply because the goose had never done anything in the past to be aggressive, and she was a pretty nice goose generally. >> but not this time. the video clearly shows the goose has some hair of the dog in her beak when she's thrown into the water. that only increases her determination. she jumps back on the boat and goes after gabby again.
11:58 am
and again. and again. >> i thought she was just absolutely crazy, and she had totally changed her personality from when she first started hanging out. i couldn't believe that the goose was still trying to bite the dog and get in the boat even after i had thrown it out two or three times. there's nobody else in the boat about the me, but i found myself kind of talking to myself or talking to the goose. >> crazy goose. >> finally, barnes decides the only way to put an end to this assault is to get out of dodge. he powers up the engine and speeds away. the goose keeps on coming. >> look at that crazy sucker. >> i was able to get the goose to kind of stay out of the boat long enough to get away and gabby was, you know, kind of relieved. >> good girl, gabby. that goose mess with you, girl? >> i'm sure she had enough fur pulled out of her hide to appreciate the goose remaining back at the dock. >> just when barnes thinks he has put enough distance between bird and dog, the goose makes
11:59 am
one last attempt. this time falls short. >> i was shocked at the persistence of this goose. i couldn't believe. i said am i going to be out here all night tossing this goose out of the boat? i've got things to do. i can't -- is the dog going to get fed up and be done with it? >> so what set the bird off? maybe it has something to do with gabby's favorite chew toy. it should be noted the goose has since calmed down. it found a mate, and it only has todd barnes to thank for that. if the self-proclaimed animal lover hadn't exercised such restraint and trained his dog to take the high road that, goose would have been cooked. >> this dog was really highly trained. if we wanted to hurt that goose or kill that goose, we could have done it very, very easily. just snapped my fingers, the dog would have taken care of it right then.
12:00 pm
>> getting ready to flip a coin, and i don't think the governor was going to call at that point. taken by force. >> one of them said you come with us or we'll kill you. >> held against their will. >> they came to be prepared to die. >> hostages. thrust into terrifying life or death situations. >> i thought he was going to -- straight down the barrel of the gun. >> a dramatic attempt by u.s. special forces to save an american captive in iraq.
