he's charged with violating federal banking laws and lying to fbi. the indictment says in 2010 he agreed to pay individual a $3.5 million to conceal prior misconduct. he made fifteen $50,000 cash withdrawals. banks are required to report withdrawals of more than $10,000 to the government. prosecutors allege he took out more cash this time in increments of $10,000 on 106 occasions. intentionally structuring those to fly under the radar is illegal. the indictment says hastert lied to fbi about where he did it. >> you rarely see them prosecute a case on facts like these. i'm speculating here. the fact he lied to fbi about the nature of the transactions and their purpose could well have been a tipping point for prosecutors deciding to bring
