half a billion dollars. lebron james saying he's the best player in the world. first look starts right now. good monday morning, everyone. i'm angie goff. a witness called it simply nightmarish. first responders trying to stop the bleeding caused by razor sharp teeth. two separate and vicious shark attacks two miles apart along the north carolina coast this morning, support helicopters will be eyes in the sky monitoring these waters for any activity. as for the two young victims right now they're alive, out of surgery and upgraded from critical to fair condition but both have lost a left arm. oak island town manager saying the beaches will be open today. visitors are encouraged to stay out of the water. nbc's jay gray reports. >> copters scan the carolina coast after two teenagers were attacked by sharks sunday afternoon.

a 14-year-old girl lost part of her left arm and could lose her left leg after she was attacked by a shark off the coast of north carolina. a 16-year-old boy was attacked, again taking his left arm. both were rushed to hospitals where their treatment continues. >> both are out of surgery and in stable condition. >> it happened at high tide near ocean crest pier popular destination at the beach, just three days after a 13-year-old was bit by a shark while riding a boogie board about 20 miles up the coast from sunday's attacks. witnesses say the girl received minor injuries to her foot. swimmers were ordered out of the water in oak island. neither beach has been closed at this point. jay gray, nbc news. just when they thought they were zeroing in, this morning authorities are now expanding their search for those two convicted killers on the run for more than a week now. the manhunt is still focused on the woodlands of upstate new york.

the escapees could be long gone by now. perhaps up in canada or down in mexico. meanwhile, that prison worker accused of helping the deadly d duo will appear in court for a preliminary hearing. investigators say that joyce mitchell worked with the prisoners for weeks, even sneaking them various tools in the maximum security facility. she was even allegedly supposed to be the getaway driver. the plan? drive seven hours toward an unknown possibly wooded location where they would meet an off-road vehicle. but on that day of the escape, she had a panic attack and didn't show up. the district attorney says she didn't want her husband hurt. mitchell could get eight years in jail. a possible big hit in the war on terror. two usf 15 bombers took part in an air strike in libya saturday. the reported target the leader of an al qaeda affiliate there. the pentagon confirms the strike but is staying silent on whether

welcome back to "first look." good and bad in the gulf of mexico. the rainfall from this system could cause huge problems because the area it's headed to has already had a ton of rain this spring. center of the storm is here. let's fast forward to when it makes its official landfall. it looks like some time during the afternoon on tuesday, somewhere near victoria just south of the houston area. lot of heavy rain of course with a landfalling tropical system. likely tropical storm bill at that time. as we go through tuesday to wednesday, it heads north toward north texas. our computers are estimating along the coastal areas easily widespread four to five-inch rainfall totals. isolated amounts could get close to eight to ten inches. lot of flooding with that much rain is possible. here is the problem. we'll also watch the rain circulating northwards. stalled out frontal system to the jet stream in the north will not push this along. we'll watch moisture training

on june 27th, 2013 the day after the supreme court invalidated a key portion of the defensive marriage act, meaning their union would be recognized by the federal government. >> it was liberating. >> but it's still not recognized by the state they call home, louisiana. now claude and ted are holding their breath for another supreme court decision. the case they're watching could bring marriage equality to all 50 states. two questions are before the high court. does the 14th amendment require states to license a marriage between two people of the same sex and does it require states to recognize legally valid same-sex marriages performed elsewhere? these 14 states would have to accept same-sex marriage if the answer is yes. experts widely predict that outcome. the stakes are high if the court rules the other way. >> 36 states now recognize the right to same-sex marriage. 20 of those, however, are based on federal court rulings.

hillary, it's crucial she separates herself from obama on some of these issues. they're saying the obama-clinton foreign policy doctrine. we don't like that. it's an easy way for republicans to snub hillary and tie her to a president who has not been popular particularly on foreign policy. it's important for her. i think she's trying to paint herself as a better negotiator better experience than the current president when she came into office. she has the resume to do it. whether voters believe it, we'll have to see. >> with her just holding back so much on this one particular issue, is she getting criticism for being too cautious? even though she said hey, look i side with nancy pelosi on this she doesn't go as far to say that she's going to call for the president to review the congress before they seal the vote. >> she's a consummate politician in that she's not going to go

leagues. >> reporter: this was the last image many of us had of baseball in baltimore. orioles playing in an empty stadium, closed to fans for security reasons two days after riots enveloped this city in the wake of freddy gray's death in police custody. this weekend, baseball here returned to its grass roots. kids playing on a manicured field only blocks from neighborhoods where buildings burned in april. as the riots raged, major league baseball's players association looked for a way to help. it found the james mosur baseball league. >> this is our history. you're talking about a 55-year-old association. using the game to do it. as much as we want to create the next major league player, being able to impact these young men and women on the field and off the field is what this league has been doing for a long time. that's why being here today and being part of what they've been doing behind the scenes and trying to bring it more to the
