a u.s. drone strike in yemen. a u.s. official told nbc news that nasser al wawuhayshi has been killed. the operations manager reporting to obama's successor. he was in charge of al qaeda in the arabian peninsula, the group based out of yemen. meanwhile, the pentagon says they believe the attack killed a leader in 2013. the investigation is still ongoing. and the u.s. is celebrating a victory against islamic state militants in syria. kurd and state rebels are now in control of an isis strong hold. let's turn to business as the dow falls in the red once again for the year. markets closed lower due to

anxiety over the greek debt crisis and the fed meeting that starts today. that meeting could give clues into when the u.s. central bank will raise interest rates. one company that did have a good day on wall street was aig. after winning a partial victory and lawsuit against the u.s. government. now, a federal judge decided that the government's demands in the 2008 bailout were too severe and that it did not have the right to become the legal owner of the insurance giant. a decision that could mean the end of future bailouts. at the same time the judge ruled that the government had saved the company's investors from bankruptcy and awarded none of the $40 billions sought in damages. still, many are counting the long shot case's split decision as a victory for aig. we've got disappointing news for those who have fallen into the gap. the retailer says it plan toes close a quarter of its stores, 175 of them that is as sales continue to plunge. gap will cut 250 positions from its headquarters in silicon valley and here in new york. outlet stores will not be affected.

egypt. egypt's top has given its rule on mohammed morsi. the court now says both men, the former president and the leader of the muslim brotherhood will be sentenced to life, each earning 25 years in prison. they both can appeal that decision. this comes after a lower court sentenced both men along with 106 other individuals, supporters of the muslim brotherhood, they were sentenced to death for their involvement in a 2011 jail break from that country. obviously, president morsi was ousted from power by the egyptian military and mass protests when he was president of that country. we'll have more news on that throughout the day here on msnbc. time now for sports and game six of the stanley cup finals the plaque hawk wes a 3-2 series lead looking to shut the door on the lightning at home for the first time in seven years. chicago breaks the scoreless tie in the second period keith there netting the rebound for a 1-0 lead. it turns out to be the game winner pass blackhawks take on a

>> the tropical storm is the highlight. we're going to find out what a tropical storm does as it moves over flooded areas already. with the soil so saturated in texas, oklahoma missouri and indiana, now we have this tropical storm heading over those same areas. in the history books, we don't have anything familiar with this type of setup. that happeningfully, it's going to be progressive. it will be moving at a decent forward speed. it won't sit over one area. but the areas it does go over will pick up a quick 4 to 8 inches of rain. you can see where the storm is located now. it is heading towards the coast here. that's the current position so it's going to make landfall here as we go throughout the morning into at latest the early afternoon. the rain is now arriving on the texas coast. by 1:00 p.m. it's on shore. winds right-hand a problem. storm surge is not a problem. the pass of the storm, throw, will bring the heaviest rains to the right side of it. and you notice that position. the dallas area looks to be in

the heaviest rain coming wednesday morning through wednesday afternoon. then we take that heavy rain over those flooded areas. how much rain? the next 48 hours, we could see as much as 8 inches of rain in areas just to the right of the center. houston, the worst for you will be throughout this afternoon today and there evening. these are the flash flood watches that go from the texas coast up through areas of missouri and illinois. will probably include indiana in this later on today. by the way, we had horrible thunderstorms in chicago and indiana. we have rivers heading near record flood state and then we're going to add this water on top of that. there would be a lot of evacuations over the river over the seven-day path. the pink yirchb colors 4 urchbs plus. watch out missouri into illinois and even heavy rains into ohio towards pittsburgh could cause flooding problems too. tropical storm bill landfall into the texas coast about 11:00
