"first look" is up next. good morning everybody. thanks for joining us. i'm betty nguyen. we want to begin with breaking news in tennessee. a csx freight train carrying a toxic gas derailed after mid might. people have been evacuated as a result. we are learning seven firefighters have been taken to a local hospital after breathing in fumes. hazmat and emergency officials are on the scene now. we'll keep you updated as this situation develops. we have the moments leading touch a plane crash earlier this year in taiwan. dash cam caught this plane

before it crashed into a river killing 43 in eastboundfebruary. the captain accidentally switched off the only working engine seconds before the crash. the captain previously failed simulator training in may 2014. so we are two days away from one of the biggest beach days of the year. this morning in north carolina major fears of what lurks below the waves. >> it's happened again. beach goers in north carolina stunned after the third shark attack in a week this time ocracoke island. >> the coast guard spent a lot of time with the victim. >> a man was swimming in waist deep water with his son when a lifeguard said a shark took him under water biting him on his

hip, and both hands. the man was able to swim to shore where lifeguards helped him out of the water. she was there with her family. >> the news spread quickly it was a shark attack or shark bite. so, obviously everybody got out of the water. >> another witness posting pray for the victim. great first responders. in north carolina this is the seventh confirmed attack in three weeks. among the victims, an 18-year-old that nearly died in june. a 12-year-old and a 16-year-old each lost an arm. an 8-year-old survived with minor injuries. officials say there's no plans to close beaches, but emergency medical crews will be on stand by for the holiday weekend. nbc news. and this is another huge source of anxiety this morning heading to the holiday weekend. the increased risk of terror attacks on big gatherings.

when it comes to big gathers, it's hard not to think of new york city, the largest fireworks display. sabrina guthrie got behind the scenes look at preparations from the chief of terrorism. >> what's your message to somebody who wants to come out in new york and watch the fireworks? >> we want to assure them they can come enjoy the fireworks, celebrate the country and be secure and confident in police department and other agencies going to police this event. >> we want to bring in tracey pots live in washington today. what can law enforcement do without specific threat sos far? >> betty, one thing they're doing is stepping up security surveillance on people they had already been watching. keep in mind this is a warning feds give every year. things are a little different this year because we have two important events happening at

. welcome back to "first look" on this thursday f. you're in missouri you got hit by big stories yesterday. all last night it continued. now heading down to ozark around border of arkansas. also in kentucky and tennessee this morning. missouri was hit hard. not often you see the entire edge of the state under a flash flood warning. some water rescues overnight, mobile homes had to be evacuate add. it continues for 8:00 this morning. the rain ended, but the flash flood warning continued.
