heightened state of security. in new york city more than 7,000 extra police officers will be keep an eye on the crowds. authorities emphasize this is only a precaution and say there's no specific terror threat. nbc brian moor is live in washington this morning. what kind of security preparations are underway in the nation's capital? >> hi betty. in the capital much like other areas in the country, there's the layer of security you can see and the invisible layer you can't. they say there's no credible threat but reason to be on alert. in the nation's capital, the response to reports of shots fired at washington navy yard where a dozen were killed by a gunman two years ago. this turned out to be a false alarm. it was an and example of preparation police officers around the country hope they won't need this holiday weekend. >> enjoy this festive weekend,

a riot. sad to say but another shark attack this morning. this one down under on the waves off of lighthouse beach in new south wales. a 32-year-old body border had both legs atacked by a shark. in the u.s. the summer of the shark continues with beaches planning to open this holiday weekend despite rash of attacks. gabe gutierrez reports. >> the rescue was frantic. 67-year-old andrew costello in good condition after a shark bit him on his leg, hip, both hands. >> you could see decent size baseball size gash taken out of his knee. >> it was north carolina's seventh attack in three weeks, a record. >> i am reviewing with public safety personnel to make sure we have the personnel in place to respond to any potential

you hit on this. is joe biden the first person to give her a run for her money? aside from sanders, look at everybody possible. is he the best person. >> i think that a lot of progressives and liberals were disappointed senator warren didn't run. obviously she said she signalled she likes what sanders is saying. is sanders right to take on public and general? i'm not sure most strategists would be. i think o'malley would get a second look. either way, i think biden would make things interesting. >> without a doubt. okay. you know. this is interesting to me. actress ferrera made the point that donald trump's remarks have increased voter registration among latinos. is that true? >> there's been fallout. his policy proposal to fix the

immigration situation in our country is to build a wall. i think that even former florida governor jeb bush kind of shrugged off that idea as well as new jersey governor chris christie. he's got corporate sponsors pulling out. i think also he's gotten some criticism from republican presidential contenders as well. >> quickly, the trump controversy is making it hard for all republican candidates to secure the latino vote? >> i don't think it does. >> really? >> here's why. i think it makes the opponents become more serious. i think that it really shows the contrast between people like donald trump and more moderate more folks who are willing to compromise, people like former florida governor jeb bush who by the way has been criticized about his own immigration stances. >> appreciate your insight on this friday morning.
