to leave the eurozone and what the eu and others will do in response. front and center in their republican presidential campaign this holiday weekend fueled by a horrific murder and debate over candidate donald trump's comments. mitt romney and several candidates weighed in on trump, who has stood by his comments calling undocumented immigrants from mexico drug dealers and rapists. >> i think he made a severe error in saying what he did about mexican-americans and it was unfortunate. >> hispanics in america and hispanics in texas, from the alamo to afghanistan, have been extraordinary people citizens of our country and of our state. they have served nobly. and to paint with that broad a brush that donald trump did is -- i mean he's going to have to defend those remarks. i never will. and i will stand up and say that those are offensive, which they were. >> i salute donald trump for

focusing on the need to address illegal immigration. there's a lot of bipartisan agreement outside of washington on immigration. there's overwhelming bipartisan agreement, number one, that we need to secure the border ss, that we need to finally do something to stop illegal immigration. >> what do you do with the 11 million people? do you send them back or give them a way to get legal? >> i don't accept the premise that you have to solve every aspect of this problem at all once. president obama and the democrats focus on that issue because the question you're asking is the most devisive partisan question in this debate. >> jeb bush said he takes personal offense to his comments. >> he's not a stupid guy. i don't assume he thinks every mexican crossing the border is a race rapist. he is doing this to incite.

politically, we're going to win when we're optimistic and big and broad rather than -- [ growling ] just angry all the time. >> shocking murder of a san francisco woman. 32-year-old kate steinle was shot and killed at pier 14 on wednesday. the suspect in custody is an undocumented immigrant previously deported to mexico five times. he was most recently detained four months ago. san francisco's sanctuary city policy does not turn over the undocumented to federal authorities without active warrants. on the democratic side hillary clinton spent her holiday weekend campaigning in new hampshire as well. it comes as the clinton camp says she's going to begin making herself more available to the media and start doing national television interviews as early as this week. communications director jen

entered the race former virgin ra senator jim webb announced he will run, seeking the nomination for the democratic party. let's go back to our top stories we're following. the breaking news out of greece and troubles over its financial situation. the finance minister resigned. a rejection of another bailout. where does greece go from here? >> reporter: morning, ayman. first thing to point out, this was a huge victory for the campaign shocking result. investors, markets, not even the greek government here predicted how strong the support for that "no" vote would be. that's a "no" vote to austerity. how can you say no to austerity but remain in the eurozone? the greek prime minister said look, this no vote wasn't a no to the euro.

we can work together reach a deal. all sorts of concilliary gestures he made. the resignation of finance minister, someone considered a very difficult man, i think, in brussels and someone who perhaps could stand in the way of a deal. this is being viewed as a positive step, too. let me show you the newspapers. this one of the key negotiators to the creditors. no headline needed on this paper just the vote stats and his shocked face. this is the problem for brussels now over signing a deal. separate paper, real dilemma in brussels now, reforms or grexit. it's a woman saying is there a hope for a deal? a man looking in a ballot box saying i'm trying to find it. we don't know whether a deal can be reached. can the greek government prove and prompt they will implement

any deal going forward? >> all this uncertainty will have some kind of impact on the markets. how are the asian, european markets -- market here in the u.s. haven't opened yet. what can we expect in terms of the impact it will have on the global markets? >> what we saw from the asian and european markets was indicating before they opened significantly lower than they are right now. they've bounced back. we've got the likes of the german markets and french markets down by around 1 to 1.5%. it looked a lot worse earlier on. investors in a holding pattern. we've got a euro group, meeting of financiers tomorrow. what can come out of this and whether or not the greeks will come up with fresh proposals and whether or not a deal can be thrashed out. i think right now everybody paused to see what comes tomorrow. >> julia chatterley live from athens greece. thank you very much.

iran's foreign minister admits there are still differences between iran and six world powers but, quote, they've never been closer to a deal. secretary of state john kerry also agrees but made no promises. >> i want to be absolutely clear with everybody. we are not yet where we need to be on several of the most difficult issues. and the truth is that while i completely agree with foreign minister zarif that we have never been closer at this point, this negotiation could go either way. if hard choices get made in the next couple of days and made quickly, we could get an agreement this week. but if they are not made we will not. >> meanwhile, senate foreign relations committee chair is urging kerry not to cave in on

new york is back behind bars. shot and captured after a three-week manhunt last month. recovering at a hospital in albany until yesterday when authorities then sent under 23-hour confinement and on suicide watch. two dozen people were injured saturday during a family vacation photo when the deck they were standing on suddenly collapsed. gabe gutierrez has more from the north carolina coast. >> i need all the ambulances i can get. >> reporter: dispatchers got the first panicked calls around being pm saturday. >> i was on the phone with 911. i just counted people on the ground and i counted up to 21 and i just said you need to get as many units as you can here. >> all off-duty personnel report to station 45. >> reporter: a deck holding at least two dozen people including children had collapsed. >> they went to take a family photo and they're all standing there, ready to take a photo and it collapsed.

>> reporter: the injured ranged from five to 94 years old. >> a lot of people on top of each other. a lot of blood, broken bones. >> reporter: alma arnold was renting the house next door. >> it was truly, truly, truly sad to watch. there were kids lined up on the grass, watching their parents and grandparents. >> reporter: family, mostly from virginia, had rented this property for the holiday weekend. they were standing on this corner of the deck. this is where a section of that deck came crashing down fell about 12 feet. neighbors say it happened in an instant. over the past decade 4,600 emergency room visits were associated with deck collapses. in the u.s. an estimated 40 million residential decks and 10 million commercial ones are more than 20 years old. this isn't the first time we've seen this happen. from kentucky to rhode island indiana, where this group also tried to take a family photo plunged 15 feet. experts say there are easy ways
