unlike justin bieber hasn't bared all, at least. we'll explain. ♪ . good morning, everyone. it's tuesday july 7th. we begin with new details emerging against bill cosby. newly released court documents from a 2005 deposition show cosby admitted under oath to buying quaaludes with the intent of giving them to women he wanted to have sex with and that he gave the sedative to at least one woman and, quote, other people. >> in a deposition from 2005 bill cosby says he obtained quaaludes. in the documents cosby is asked by an attorney when you got the quaaludes, was it in your mind you were going to use these quaaludes for i don't think

women you wanted to have sex with. cosby replied, yes. at the time cosby was being sued by a woman who claims he was drugged and sexual assaulted in the '70s. cosby said she meets me backstage, i give her quaaludes, we have section. the lawsuit was dismissed in 2006. cosby's attorneys have fought hard to keep the documents from being released saying they would embarrass the comedian. more than two dozen women have accused cosby of sexual assault. >> cosby admits he gave the women who brought the lawsuit three and a half pills of benadryl. cosby has never been charged with a crime. and in the past he and his representatives have denied all of the allegations. let's turnover seas now to the debt crisis unfolding in greece. the prime minister is expecting to layout a new proposal as

europe's leaders huddle at the summit. all eyes are on the oil markets this morning after taking another big hit, crashing almost 8% due to concerns over greece. the iran nuclear talks and the chinese market collapse. obviously greece is the focal point here julia. what's the latest from athens this morning? >> reporter: well, the latest is alexis tsipras has flown into brussels for those key negotiations yet again with the creditors. he comes on the back of that no vote win for austerity here in athens athens. this is there is a real tensity going into thesenegotiations.

yes, they still want to be careful about what they do as far as pension cuts are concerned. they're also still pushing for debt -- this is something all along the creditor versus said they're not willing to give ground on. does tsipras look at the situation back here in greece and concede some ground? i think there's still a lot of cautiousness about whether or not a deal can be reached even through the talks today. we've got the leaders like angela merkel coming in this afternoon. there's still a lot of skepticism about who's going to give ground here to make a deal even if it's very necessary. president obama is admitting set backs in the fight against the islamic state, but says progress is being made and is vowing they will ultimately be defeated. after meeting with top military leaders at the pentagon he

warned of a long road ahead to counter isis's ideology. he also said there are no plans to send more u.s. troops overseas overseas. >> this broader challenge of countering violent extremism is not simply a military effort. ideologies are not defeated with guns. they're defeated by better ideas, more attractive and more compelling ingling vision. this larger battle for hearts and minds is going to be a generational struggle. it's not ultimately going to be won or lost by the united states alone. it will be decided by the countries and communities that tryst terrorists like isil target. all across the middle east and africa we'll be playing inging whack a mole. >> john mccain quickly criticized the president's remarks saying in part quote,

isil is not ten feet tall. it can be and must be defeated. that will never happen if we continue to delude oustrselves about our current campaign. now the iranians have a new demand. a deal separate from the one aimed at curbing their nuclear program. both russia and china have expressed support for at least a partial lifting after the arms embargo. the united states has been opposed since it could allow iran to expand its military among other forces in the region. the white house would not rule out that it was being discussed. >> our efforts have been focused on iran's nuclear program. and the goal of these conversations is to prevent iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and ensure they coordinate with international efforts to verify their compliance with the

agreement. and that's the focal point of these conversations. what we have acknowledged in previous lines of questioning is that there have been other things that come up on the sidelines of these talks. the most prominent example of that is the concerns we have about american citizens who are being detained in iran. >> a deal may be approaching given a shift in attitude in tehran. after days of pessimism iran state tv now hinting nuclear deal is coming. the americans have compromised on their own red lines. a new poll offers an interesting look inside the minds of voters in the first presidential contest next year. among likely caucus goers on the republican side 29% believe the federal government should act to reduce income inequality. meanwhile the party is more split on what to do about

undocumented immigrants. 46% favor deportation. 30 favor a path to citizenship. and 17% would like to see a permanent presidency status. bernie sanders was in portland maine last night where he drew another large crowd, this one estimated at about 7,500 people. >> in case you didn't notice this is a big turnout. [ cheers and applause ] >> in recent weeks we have had great turnouts all over this country. we had some 10,000 people coming out in madison. we have crowd in minneapolis. in denver. all throughout iowa in new hampshire. and look at this turnout here tonight in portland. and the answer is, i think,

disturbing. he's holding her arm and at one point she swings at him with her left hand. then johnson punches her with his right hand before disappearing off camera. >> the woman in the video clearly had drinks but that's not an excuse. and we don't make that as an excuse or anything like that. deandre johnson will own up to this incident and hopefully he'll learn from it and move on. and again i couldn't stress he truly just wants to get an education. the actions of both individuals on this video are not acceptable. and i think that we need to basically look at this case and allow our young adults to learn from their experiences and their mistakes. >> he said his client tried to

december escalate his decision and regrets his response. he's now volunteering at a shelter for victims of domestic violence. he said the woman yelled racial epithets. the witness heard the victim yell no at johnson twice prior to him punching her. she suffered bruising to her eye, swelling to her cheek and a small cut near the bridge of her nose. johnson turned himself in and was released after posting $500 bail. nbc news also reached out to the victim, but she has declined to comment so far. he's never lost in the ring but floyd mayweather junior has been stripped of his belt won in the fight against pacquiao. he failed to pay a sanctioning fee and did not give up the two junior middleweight titles he also holds.
