steinle as she walked on a pier with her father. the large caliber handgun used in the shooting was stolen after being left this a vehicle. sources do not know how soon it was stolen before steinle was killed or how the suspect obtained it. he told a local television station if he killed her, he didn't remember her because he had taken sleeping pills and marijuana. san francisco is a so called sanctuary city. there's growing outrage. the sheriff's department released him a month and a half ago on an old drug charge. he has criminal history going back as far as 1991. seven felony convictions, four drug related. he was deport ed from the u.s. five times. it's become a national issue that lawmakers on capitol hill are asking how the suspect was even allowed to return to the country. >> we've got him in custody,
