"first look" starts now. good morning everybody. thanks for joining us today. i'm with betty nguyen. 100 wildfires are burn ago cross the western united states. now another threat is sparking concern. not only burning acres of land, they're burning through firefighter budgets. they're spending $1 million a week. at this rate, money runs out next month. miguel begins our coverage. >> reporter: it may be the most explosive inferno in the nation. five small lightning fires merged to this monster. it looks like a war zone here because it is. in the air and on the ground, the national guard has arrived. for now they're losing the battle. >> heartbreaking. i'm getting phone calls from

welcome back to "first look." yesterday in colorado, scary scenes as funnel clouds and tornados were spotted. this is an hour and a half east of denver. this looks like it probably was a tornado. national weather service will go out and investigate this morning. a small rural farm town was hit pretty hard. this morning numerous thunderstorms are poing up. this ce -- are popping up. flash flood warning issued for all of manhattan, bureau of manhattan. thunderstorms near newark. new york, downpours. that's the team this morning.
