good morning, everybody. it's monday, august 31st. i'm amy holmes. we begin with presidential politics. a new poll from iowa shows trump has completely transformed his perception among the early nominating states likely republican caucusgoers. bloomberg politics des moines register poll finds trump leading the field with 23%. ben carson is just 5 points behind, nearly within the poll's margin of error at 18%. far behind both of them are senator ted cruz and governor scott walker. carson tops iowa republicans second choice and when they're first and second choices are combined carson and trump tie at 32%. outsider rise is best explained by congress. as for trump 61% of iowa republicans hold a favorable

opinion of him now, more than doubling his standing in may and over the weekend donald trump gave a preview of what the general election might look like with a scathing attack on trusted aide to hillary clinton. it happened at a donor gathering outside boston which, despite signs saying to make checks payable to his campaign, the front-runner insisted it was not a fund-raiser. >> we are -- i guess they're paying for some of the basics in terms here. we have food. i guess 1,500 or 2,000 people. this is not a fund-raiser. we're not doing anything in terms of fund-raising. >> what about the checks payable to you? >> many people are coming in. they can pay whatever they want but i think they're doing something to offset the food. but this is not a fund-raiser. >> taking aim at huma abedeen saying she's at the center of the e-mail scandal and had

and others in his own party should take a moment to stand up to him and draw the line for once. it's embarrassing to watch frankly. republican governor chris christie is the latest hopeful to come under criticism for an immigration policy proposal. he generated headlines saturday during a town hall in new hampshire after he suggested that the government should track immigrants ear in the united states like fedex tracks packages. >> and at any moment fedex can tell you where that package is. it's on the truck. it's at the station. it's on the airplane. it's back at another station. it's back on the truck. it's at her doorstep. she just signed for it. yet people come to this country with visas and the minute they come in, we lose track of them. we can't -- so here's what i'm going to do as president. i'm going to ask fred smith founder of fedex, come work for

trails clinton by just 7%, 37% to 30%. in may he trailed more than 40 points. clinton is below 50% of this poll for the first time all cycle. here is the vermont senator talking about his iowa surge yesterday. >> i don't know if her campaign is in trouble. our campaign is doing great. the gains that we are seeing and the enthusiasm and the huge crowds we are seeing this is not anti-hillary clinton. this is pro bernie sanders and pro a message that says enough enough. this country and our government belong to all of us not just a handful of very wealthy people. >> meanwhile 61% of iowa democrats say the controversy surrounding clinton's use of private e-mail as secretary of state is not important to them. while just 10% say it's very important. now let's turn to business. it's a new week. we can already feel the anxiety after last week's roller coaster

ride on wall street and across the globe. u.s. futures aren't looking so good either. steve cedric joins us live from london. steve, what are investors watching this morning? >> well, they're watching china, of course. china was down again in session, neared flatline by the close of trading. they'll crack down on those they believe are destabilizing the market. it noelt it they fell 7.9% last week. but the dow is on course of having its worst month in three years. now the futures are pulling us down on the s&p, .8% on the nasdaq. lots to account for in the states, big numbers on factory output, trade and key payroll figures at the end of the week. people have been worried very

much about china and concern about the slowdown of this economy it's as much, i think, of actually when the u.s. gets its first rate hike as well. in wyoming over the weekend we heard stanley fisher saying, look, we cannot be asleep. he's saying maybe a september rate hike in the united states is still on the cards. that's what many people in the markets have been very concerned about. that leads to a stronger dollar which hurts some of the earnings of the big u.s. companies. all kinds of other countries as well. twin fear force the market remaining this week. one is china and the second is the fed. we'll get a lot of implications -- indications of when the fed will raise rates this week when we get all that data coming out. at the moment it's not looking too good at the start of the trading week. back to you. >> steve sedgwick from on done. thank you. now to the latest in the execution-style killing of a sheriff's deputy in texas. more than 1,000 people descended upon the gas station in cyprus

now to sad news ought of the baseball world from turner field in atlanta, long-time braves fan greg murrey died after falling 50 feet from the ballpark's upper deck during a game saturday night. paramedics performed cpr and took him out on a stretcher. he later died at a nearby hospital. his family said he had been a season ticket holder with the same seats for 23 years. the team held a moment of silence before yesterday's game against the yankees. the associated press reporting that his death is the third from a fall at turner field just since 2008. >> now let's turn to williamsburg, pennsylvania. some 42,000 spectators gathered yesterday to watch the championship game of the little league world series between lewisberry, pennsylvania, and japan. it was lewisberry early on. a grand slam to put his team up five runs. couple of batters later jaden
