only because of the view. ♪ ♪ good morning. it's tuesday, september 1st. i'm lewis. we're following several developments. we begin in the atlanta area this morning. an officer is fighting for his life and a home oener injured after police admit they went to the wrong house to investigate reports a suspicious person. officials say gunfire broke out as soon as officers entered the home. there are still many questions hah need to be answered. here's the county police chief. >> this is where they thought the potential burglary was taking place. the color of the house and texture being brick fitted the

description. no numerical address was given. when they came to the rear of the house, unlocked screen and door. that in and of itself would probably suggest to anyone it's possible there could be intruders inside. it turned out not to be the case. we know somewhere inside, right inside the house, shots were fired. i can't tell you specifically where that shooting took place. >> the homeowner's dog was caught in the crossfire and died from injuries. three officers are f leaving on administrative leave pending the investigation. let's go to texas where a newly released video is raising questions what led deputies to shoot and kill a man last week. police opened fire on him after he resisted arrest following a domestic violence call. they tried using a non lethal weapon according to the radio station. he raised one of his hands. after he is shot, officers are

seen flipping him over on his stomach. the entire encounter not shown. dialogue between the officers and suspect cannot be heard. the district attorney says the video is troubling but people should not rush to judgment. the sheriff department says posting online is putting lives of deputies at risk. they're placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. there's questions about the ambush of the deputy at pay gas station. it's described as an execution style killing. shannon miles shot darren goforth 15 times before leaving him for dead. janet has more. >> in handcuffs and shackles, the man charged with capital murder of texas deputy appeared in the courtroom packed with law enforcement officers. the da telling a judge how video shows miles shoot goforth in the head from behind and keep

shooting long after the deputy lay dying on the ground. 15 shell cases were found at the scene matching the handgun in miles' garage. >> he unloaded the entire weapon into deputy goforth. when deputies recovered the pistol in the garage, it was loaded again. >> prosecutors will not have to offer investigation for why the shooting happened. >> the why of offense isn't element of the crime. prosecutors aren't obligated to prove it. >> goforth was a ten year veteran of the police department, husband and father to 5-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl who will lay him to rest friday. >> miles' attorney says the client attends to plead not guilty. he was sent to a state mental hospital this 2012 for several months. president obama is pushing police safety measures after the deputy's murder in texas. he called the widow of goforth

to express condolences and called the killing completely unacceptable. presidential candidate ted cruz had this to say about the president's treatment of law enforcement. >> cops across this country feel the assault from the president, from the top on down, as we see whether it's ferguson or baltimore. the response of senior officials, the president, attorney general, is to ville identify law enforcement. i'm proud to stand with law enforcement, stand with police, firefighters, first responders. they're american heroes. we need a president that doesn't attack and villely identify them and doesn't seek to tear us apart to inflame racial division. we need a president to work to bring us together and unify us behind shared american values. >> let's talk more about presidential politics in the latest polls. >> these polls are great. guys like jeb bush and hillary hire pollsters.

they pay them hundreds thousands of dollars. what do you have to do that for? every week they come out with a new poll. >> a new poll has donald trump tied in iowa with dr. ben carson at 23%. it's the first time trump has not held the lead in an early state poll in over a month. yet another political outsider carly fiorina comes in at third followed by antiestablishment first term senator ted cruz. as for why the outsiders are doing so well, this data point shows 23% of iowa republicans want someone with government experience. two-thirds want someone outside the government. it's not just in iowa. new national poll finds 69% of republicans disapprove of the way their party is handling congress. the race in iowa is far from over with exactly five months to go before february caucuses. 12% say they're completely decided in their vote. now while ben carson might be his biggest threat in iowa,

donald trump continues to hammer jeb bush on immigration. he took comments made in 2014 about undocumented immigrants that come to provide for their families and tie them to hose arrested for brutal crimes. >> yes, they broke the law but it's not a felony. it's kind of -- it's a -- it's an act of love. >> now bush came back on the offensive hitting trump for being soft on crime highlighting 1990 support for legalizing drugs and campaign donations to soft on crime liberals like harry reid and hillary clinton. he tweeted this quote to man say pelosi when trump called her quote the greatest. chris christie who's having a hard time breaking through hinted a possible change in

tactic. in the interview with fallon, he expressed his opinion about not getting time in the last debate. >> i was waiting for you to talk. >> me too. >> september 16th, may be changing tactics. if i get to like 15 question miss a row, count them at home. they're going to go he's going nuclear now. >> new this morning, state department released a giant collection of e-mails from hillary clinton's private server, 7,000 pages worth to be attack. confidential material has been found in 150 e-mails. according to the spokesperson, none were marked classified at the time they were sent. now the confidential e-mails are the lowest level of classification. none are quote top secret. let's look at a few. with exchange with george mitchell about meetings, clinton asked him to use her personal e-mail address.

live. it was rocky for stocks this past month. hope september is better. what do you think is causing the anxiety? >> we've got a number of issues. traders would be happy to see the back of kind of volatility we had in august coming into the month of september. there were a number of issues wash aing around. one was oil price and rapid decline in barrel of oil. in the last few trading sessions, we rally over the concerns inflation is maybe headed back after vice chair stanley fisher fed suggested inflation maybe isn't that far away for the u.s. economy. it's hard to see real evidence of that in what's going on in the economy at the moment. the oil price slipping again. we also had a lot of concerns
