good morning everybody, i'm shannon mulaire. new tough talk from president obama. russian president vladimir putin spent sunday defending his country's military intervention in the sear yap war. president obama didn't mince words, he revealed the u.s. had pretty good intelligence of russia's intentions even before the two leaders met last month. he insists it doesn't equate to good international leadership. >> today, rather than being able to count on their support and maintain the base they had in syria, which they've had for a long time, mr. putin is quoting his own troops, his own military, just to barely hold together by a thread his sole ally. >> he's challenging your leadership, mr. president. he's challenging your leadership. >> steve, i got to tell you, if you think that running your

after kevin mccarthy suggested the committee was aimed at drag down clinton. >> we put together a ben xwazie special committee, a select committee, what are her numbers today? >> reporter: after heavy criticism for that remark mccarthy withdrew his name in a bid to become speaker of the house, a hard push to recruit congressman paul ryan. even some republican hard liners said they'll support him. >> i think he'll be a wonderful speaker just like i thought he would be a great vice president or president. southwest airlines is warning passengers they could be in for another day of huge delays and massive lines due to "technical issues" which already delayed hundreds of flights yesterday. one passenger in las vegas described the long lines and crowds as pure hell and workers at lax handed out waters to those waiting.

leading the news on nbcnews.com, tennessee cop a soon to be father killed off-duty. 31-year-old terrance ulrich was shot at a home and is the fourth officer to be fatally shot in four years. california schools barred from using red skips as team names or mascots. in florida a waterspout was caught on camera as it tore through a u.s. postal service trokor trailer yesterday morning. the truck was passing over a bridge when the waterspout flipped it over and sent debris flying into the bay. the drivers was uninjured. waterspouts rarely cause damage on store but look scary. rafael miranda is here with us. hopefully no more of those in sight.
