and good morning, everybody, i'm shannon mulaire. former nba star lamar odom is in the toughest fight of his life. sources tell enews that odom suffered at least one stroke, and that he may have brain damage after he was found unconscious in a nevada brothel. reported on a ventilator the former two-time champion is surrounded at his hospital bedside by former lakers teammate kobe bryant along with estranged wife khloe kardashian and much of her family. on instagram rob kardashian showed his support saying, praying nonstop for my brother. nbc's jay gray has the latest. >> reporter: we're learning more now about what happened inside this nevada brothel, where former nba and reality tv star lamar odom spent several days before being rushed to a hospital after this 911 call tuesday afternoon. >> 911, where is your emergency? >> we need an ambulance. >> reporter: when paramedics arrived at the love ranch, about 70 miles outside of las vegas,

they say the 35-year-old was unconscious, and struggling to breathe. >> he had blood coming from his nose and his mouth, along with a white substance. >> reporter: odom was first treated at a nearby hospital and transferred to this facility in vegas, where doctors are said to be treating the situation as an overdose. sources close to the athlete say he had multiple drugs in his system, including cocaine. a sample of odom's blood was obtained by investigators using a search warrant, who say at this point they don't have results from toxicology tests. the former nba champion gained notoriety off the court when he married khloe kardashian in 2009. the couple reportedly filed for divorce in 2013. reports indicate kardashian has been at his bedside since late tuesday. her mom and sister have also been seen at the las vegas hospital. while fans and former teammates are reaching out on social media, many, like all-star chris paul, stunned by the news.

controversial new ad with fake voiceovers on top of photos of the americans killed in the attack. as well as the gravestone of u.s. ambassador to libya. meanwhile, senator sanders says his campaign raised over $2 million following the debate. and with all that attention, a new question, does donald trump have a new target? he went after sanders at a rally in atlanta last night. >> this socialist/communist, okay, nobody wants to say it. he's going to tax you people at 90%. he's going to take everything! and nobody's heard the term communist. but you know what? i call him a socialist/communist, okay? because that's what he is. >> that was part of a big day for team trump. the donald, along with two of his children, fanned out in an all-out media frenzy over several networks. on nbc trumped talked about bernie sanders' olive branch moment with hillary clinton over her e-mail server. >> bernie made a mistake.

morning, after weeks of violence. one of the latest threats took place just feet from our nbc news team at the damascus gate in jerusalem where israeli police took down a palestinian man wielding a knife in a hail of bullets. nbc's aimen mohyeldin was there when it happened. >> reporter: it happened in an instant, in front of our camera. a man with a knife runs past a security checkpoint and is shot dead by israeli police. the knife clearly visible in his hand. >> he pulled out a knife, and police officers managed to neutralize the terrorist. >> reporter: he was identified as 19-year-old basil sidar a palestinian from the west bank. just hours later, at jerusalem's central bus terminal, another palestinian man stabs and injures a 72-year-old israeli woman. he, too, is shot dead by police. the latest in weeks of attacks, leaving eight israelis dead. israel is on high alert.

hundreds of additional security forces called up. police checkpoints increased. palestinian neighborhoods sealed off, restricting movement. israel is warning that bodies of attackers will not be returned to families and their homes will be demolished. but palestinians are also mourning. 30 dead in recent weeks. some of them attackers, but many the killed were protesters. the funeral of one in bethlehem was followed by more clashes, with israeli police. palestinians claim a double standard. that israel cracks down on palestinian attackers, but goes easy on israeli extremists. their anger fuelled by social media and viral videos like this one, allegedly showing an injured 13-year-old palestinian left to bleed. israel released its own video showing knife wielding palestinians. both sides feel under siege, israel by attacks, and palestinians by what they consider an occupying power. >> that was nbc's amen mohyeldin

reporting. a disturbance on an american airlines flight departing from phoenix has gone viral. a passenger was booted off the plane after she described bullying by a male flight attendant. >> you're so mean to me. i didn't do anything. >> if you don't come up i'm going to have to call the office. >> are you serious? >> that's the last time i fly american. >> [ bleep ] -- horrible. >> no, never. >> as you can tell her fellow passengers not too happy about what was going on. she says it started when a male flight attendant asked her to step aside in the aisle, but she didn't hear him. she says he reacted by threatening to throw her off. when she asked for his name he told her it was none of her business. american airlines says they've apologized to the woman. they've since offered her a $250 voucher. let's get down to business with cnbc's landon dowdy. >> good morning to you. red is the new black. netflix tacking itself on to a list of disappointing third

game tied blue jays catcher russell martin hits the texas batter by accident with the ball as he throws it back to the pitcher. the ball was live, and a rangers runner scored from third. well this caused an 18-minute game delay while the umpires then decided to review the call. and then after they reviewed the call, while that was going on, hometown fans were littering the field with beer cans and debris, it's just a mess, moments later though jose bautista hits a monster three-run homer to put toronto ahead. but his epic bat flip on the homer nearly caused a bench clearing brawl. the jays held on for the win their first postseason victory since 1993. next the kansas city where the upstart astros hope to stop the royals from returning to the alcs. it was johnny cueto who ruled the night, retiring the last 16 batters. royals will face the blue jays saturday night in kansas city. and there is a new champion in the wnba.

welcome back to "first look." we're halfway through october. you know this incredible warmth we've had over the last month and a half can't continue forever. the first cold shot is going to head down starting today. definitely tonight, and right through the weekend into the northeast. we're still going to stay unusually warm, though, all of the west and areas down through oklahoma and texas you're still going to hold onto your warmth. the cold stuff will be arriving, especially for the northern portions of the great lakes and northern new england. here's our daytime highs over the upcoming weekend. friday in burlington, 46.

high of only 43 in northern new england. leaves are going to be near their peak. definitely a frosty scene out there for all of the tourists heading north this weekend. same goes for northern michigan. and on top of that, we are predicting some lake-effect snow showers, mixed with some rain showers at the same time. so this is saturday evening, showing some snow possibly up through adirondacks, a little bit of a wintry mix possible in northern new england. and then we'll have another batch sunday, out towards western new york, buffalo to syracuse to rochester, maybe even towards the finger lakes. again, northern new england, leaves near their peak. could be a beautiful scene with a little bit of light snow. nothing that's going to cause too many problems. as far as the forecast the rest of the country goes, we can't get rid of the heat. people in texas are starting to complain, like where's our fall. it's going to be mid 90s today. u.s. and russian officials are discussing ways to promote air safety over syria. the pentagon says progress is being made on how to best coexist over syria. recently u.s. and russian combat

planes flew within a mile of each other during separate missions. also we're learning that hundreds of iranian troops are joining the fighting in syria in support of syrian president bashar al assad. this is the first confirmation that iranian fighters are taking part in ground combat operations. a glitch in department of homeland security computers used to screen passengers against a terror watch list caused delays at airports around the nation last night. officials say the disruption lasted about 90 minutes. customs agents used alternative screening methods during the outage. michigan sheriff's deputies got quite a surprise after pulling over an underage drunk driver. after placing the young man under arrest a second age drunk driver side swiped two patrol cars and slammed into the arrested man's car. both drivers were taken to the local jail. illinois has lowered the threshold for issuing ious instead of money payouts for state lotto winners. since july the state has delayed payments to winners of more than $25,000.

good morning. it's thursday, october 15th, i'm jonathan capehart in washington. we begin this morning overseas, where a wave of violent attacks are once again pushing tensions between israelis and palestinians to the breaking point. even as israeli authorities began implementing emergency security measures yesterday, a pair of new attacks in jerusalem left two dead and one injured. one of those deadly encounters played out before the eyes of our nbc news team near the entrance to jerusalem's old city. nbc's ayman mohyeldin witnessed it all and has this report. and a warning, some of these images may be disturbing. >> reporter: it happened in an instant. in front of our camera. a man with a knife runs past a security checkpoint, and is shot dead by israeli police. the knife clearly visible in his hand.
