you're doing fantastic. >> donald trump does "saturday night live," this morning the ratings are in and as you might have guessed they're huge. nd at vetting process, ben carson's front runner status brings extra scrutiny but it is as unprecedented as he claims. plus pressure mounts on the president of the university of missouri to resign over his handling of racial incidents on campus, more on the growing protest and special meeting being held today. it's 5:30 on the east coast, 2:30 out west, this is "way too early". good morning, it's monday, november 9th. u.s.a. lewis bergdorf. ben carson spent much of the weekend beating back the scrutiny of being one of the fruners in the republican field after questions emerged about his temper as a young man and

whether he tried to stab someone. a political article accused him of claims of getting aer full scholarship to west point. he talked about being offered a full ride after being dinner with general westmoreland, but as the detroit noise reports he wasn't in detroit and that carson was defiant. >> there is a desperation on behalf of some to try to find a way to tarnish me because they have been looking through everything. they have been talking to everybody i have ever known, everybody i have everer seen. there's going to be a scandal. there's got to be something. they are getting desperate. next week it will be my kindergarten teacher who said i peed in my pants. i mean, it's ridiculous. here is my prediction, my prediction is that all of you guys trying to pile on is actually going to help me because when i go out to these book signings i see these

after dr. martin luther king jr. was assassinated but the paper says half a dozen classmates from his class couldn't corroborate that story. throughout the weekend he remained defiant. >> when you write a book with a co-writer and you say there was a class, a lot of times they will put a number or something on it just to give it for meat. obviously decades later i'm not going to remember the course number. >> wouldn't the easiest way to diffuse at least some of these questions be to ask your brother to come out and speak about this? you said it was your mother and your brother who would know about your temper. >> my mother has alzheimer's. >> obviously. >> my brother is not interested in talking to the media and a number of other people aren't, either, that i've talked to. >> vetting is a normal part of the process. did you not expect this? >> i have always said that i expected to be vetted, but being vetted and what is going on with

medicare impacting tens of millions of seniors and this man wants to give you tax breaks to the rich. i think it might be a better idea -- i know it's a crazy idea, but maybe we focus on the issues impacting the american people and what candidates are saying rather than just spending so much time exploring their lives 30 or 40 years ago. meanwhile, senator marco rubio is trying to put questions about his finances at rest. the presidential candidate released two years worth of charges to an american express credit card issued by the republican party of florida that were previously undisclosed. they showed eight personal expenses worth about $7,200 from 2005 and 2006 that rubio says have been repaid. it includes more than $3700 paid to a tiling company when the senator says he accidentally grabbed the wrong card from his wallet. another expense, vacation at piggybacked off a business trip to las vegas. the rubio campaign says he paid more than 1, $700 for hotel and

car rental fees after the business portion of the trip ended. we should mention three years ago a florida state commission cleared rubio of ethics violations related to his use of the state party credit card. with three democrats left in the 2016 race for the white house each candidate is trying to sand out. rachel maddow hosted a forum on saturday. they tried to reach out with discussions about gun violence and they didn't make many headlines but there were lighter moments during a lightning round of questioning. >> if you had to pick somebody from the republican presidential field this year to be your vice president, there was a national crisis and there had to be a unity and it was for the good of the nation and those were your choices, those 15 men and women, who would you choice? >> ruin their life right here. do it. >> whoever i name will really get hurt in the republican party

in washington. the two will attempt to move past their public disagreement over the iranian nuclear deal. there is much to includes including a ten year military aid package according to congressional officials is seeking $5 billion annually from the u.s., $2 billion more than they currently get. the leaders plan to discuss the russian and iranian efforts in syria, the white house recently announced the peace deal between israel and the palestinian government won't happen before the end of the president's term. this morning the fbi is playing a modest role in helping russian investigate the cause of that plane crash in egypt. an egyptian investigator tells reuters they are 90% sure that the noise heard in the final second of the cockpit recording was an explosion from a bomb, but the egyptian authorities said that this was, quote, a pure lie and it was too soon to reach any conclusion. there are also reports that u.s. and british intelligence intercepted chatter of militants boasting to isis leadership about bringing down the plane. the tsa has announced enhanced

security screening for planes coming to the u.s. from areas of the world with concerns of terror. let's turn to business, new information on the volkswagen emission scandal. steve joins us live from london. what do you have for us? >> the markets aren't sure whether they are upset about the cheap money or the fact that the jobs figures were food. you have the dollar gaining against the yen, gaining against the euros, elsewhere, though, bond deals picking up, more expensive money going forward. in terms of the markets they are slightly worried about awful data out of the china in terms of imports and exports. interesting story coming out of one of your favorites, lewis, bild which says several engineers have admitted to corp. micing emissions data.

charged incidents on campus saying they refuse to play in any practices or games until wolf is removed. nbc's goddy schwartz was more. >> reporter: arms linked and standing together more than 30 players from the university of missouri's football team vowing they won't take the field until the president of mizzou steps down. the boycott being echoed by the entire mizzou football team, the coach saying we are united, they are behind our players. students say this semester has been plagued with incidents of racial harassment on campus. >> two black female students, myself included, were called the "n" word by four white males. >> reporter: they say they have been repeatedly taunted by groups of white students hurling racial slurs, the most recent october 24th a swastika was

scrawled in human feces on a wall and even the homecoming king was called the "n" worded on campus. >> these are students from all different backgrounds that endure this. >> reporter: the student body is 77% white and just 7% black. protesters say the response from the school president tim wolf has been inadequate. one group calling themselves concerned students 1950 named for the year the university first began admitting plaqblack students. they are seen blocking the university president's car during a homecoming parade, a stand off the president apologized for saying my behavior seemed like i did not care, that was not my intention, i was caught off guard. one student son day seven of a hunger strike and the confrontations have continued. >> we haven't done enough and we're going to do more. >> i'm not here for a press conference, i don't want more. i want you resigned. >> reporter: the president
