there's no better board game to describe the risk? of a strategy that puts our battleships into trouble? sorry. >> that's the daily show's take on tuesday night's republican debate. donald trump, also making headlines for touting president eisenhower's 1950s deportation program to prove he can do the same. but does trump really want to be like ike? plus, threatening behavior. police make an arrest connected to the online warnings that caused panic at the university of missouri. and severe weather tears across the midwest. nearly a dozen tornadoes in one state. bill karins is tracking where the storm is headed next. it's 5:30 on the east coast, 2:30 out west, and this is "way too early."

good morning it's thursday, november 12th, i'm jonathan capehart. we'll have all those stories plus we're going to check in on actor shia labeouf who is holding a marathon viewing of his own movies. the video is from a livestream you can watch online of him watching movies of himself. right now they're watching cinematic classic "i robot." but first let's start with politics after taking up a sizable portion of tuesday night's debate, immigration continued to dominate the republican race for the white house. yesterday, after donald trump's appearance on "morning joe." >> tell me the how, are you going to have a massive deportation force? >> you're going to have a deportation force. and you're going to do it humanely -- >> how are you going to pay for this? >> very inexpensively -- >> are they going to get ripped out of their homes? >> they're going back where they came. if they came from a certain country they're going to be brought back to that country. that's the way it's supposed to

laborers who had crossed into the country undocumented through mexico. now, according to a 2006 christian science monitor report eisenhower installed a west point classmate at the head of the immigration and naturalization service. the operation took tens of thousands into custody in six states, while hundreds of thousands reportedly left voluntarily. according to studies reviewed by "the washington post" some were left stranded without the resources to survive, with 88 dying of heatstroke during one transfer, and crammed -- cramped deportation boats resembling an 18th century slave ship. trump reacted to the accounts of this operation this way. >> eisenhower's 1952 deportation, that was at times anything but humane. they would drop immigrants off in the middle of the desert. 80 died of heatstroke. others were shipped off on cargo ships under hellish conditions. how would your plan be different? >> very humanely done. >> how? >> very important.

well it's a whole management thing. good management practices. >> but believe me when i tell you, mr. trump, that was brutal what they did to those people to kick them back. i mean, the stuff they did -- >> well -- >> -- was really brutal. it could never happen today. >> i've heard it both ways. i've heard -- >> no, no, you know me. >> i've heard good reports. i've heard bad reports. we would do it in a very humane way. let me tell you, truman also sent 3.5 million people out. so you have to check on that. truman before ike sent 3.5 million people out. >> now, on that truman claim, a 2010 fact check was unable to corroborate a chain e-mail claiming truman deported 2 million undocumented immigrants after world war ii. which experts said was unlikely. jeb bush picked up a high profile endorsement yesterday from former senate majority leader and republican presidential candidate bob dole. the 92-year-old dole has multiple ties to the political dynasties involved in the 2016

race. he ran against george h.w. bush for the gop nomination, not once, but twice. in 1980, and in 1988. and in 1996, when he finally became the republican nominee, bob dole ran against bill clinton in the general election. and yesterday, at the veterans days ceremonies at the world war ii memorial here in washington, dole explained his decision to endorse the son of his former rival. >> well, i endorse jeb bush today at the veterans day. i think he's the most qualified. and we need somebody with experience, and there are a lot of good candidates. i like nearly all of them. >> so great to see bob dole. bush meanwhile was back in iowa yesterday following the fourth republican debate. and at one point shared a chest bump with the man who said he was abandoning his role as a county co-chair for ted cruz and supporting bush instead. in between events bush

acknowledged his onstage performance in the debates has room for improvement. >> how did you feel about last night's performance? >> i'll do better. i thought it was fine. i did well. talked about issues that are important to people. we need to start thinking about how -- who's the person that can beat hillary clinton, rather than trying to get in to small differences between each campaign. >> and one of bush's main selling points seems to be that he can beat hillary clinton in a general election. here's how he responded to a question about marco rubio's chances against the democratic front-runner. >> can senator rubio beat secretary clinton? >> i'm a better bet. >> why? >> because i got a proven record. and i campaigned in a way that is -- that's based on that record and based on the ideas that i have. that are about the future. and i've been vetted. i've been tested. i'm an open book.

>> meanwhile, carly fiorina responded to hillary clinton laughing off a veteran's joke about the republican presidential candidate. the man told the story about working under fiorina at hewlett-packard that ended by suggesting he'd like to strangle the former ceo. >> i get laid off, there's 20,000 of us, we get laid off, right? she told us it was for cost-cutting. couple of months after we get laid off, 20,000 people, she bought two jets to fly executives around the country, instead of using commercial aircraft and she says she's a great ceo. every time i see her on tv i want to reach through and strangle her. you know, i know that doesn't sound very nice. >> i wouldn't mess with you. >> i can understand why someone who is laid off might feel badly about it. it was a very tough time. i think he has his facts wrong about the two corporate jets, but i understand that he might
