robert lewis dear the suspect police say was responsible for killing three and wounding nine in a standoff that lasted five hours. two law enforcement sources tell nbc news in one statement made after he was taken in for questioning, dear said "no more baby parts" in reference to planned parenthood. but those sources stress that dear said many things to law enforcement after his arrest, making it difficult to assign a specific motivation. and we're also learning about more victims this morning, among them a police officer, an iraq war veteran and a mother of two. nbc news national correspondent miguel almaguer is in colorado spripgz wi springs with more. >> reporter: the investigation at the crime scene ongoing. it could continue for another week as we learn more about the suspected gunman and a possible motive. after he was taken into custody, a law enforcement source says robert dear rambled about president obama, politics and

abortion saying no more baby parts. the 57-year-old accused of wounding nine and killing three at this planned parenthood lived off the grid in this small trail we are a woman 65 miles away from the crime scene. >> he always looked a little scroungy, a little roughed up and stuff but pretty much everybody does out here. >> reporter: reportedly a college graduate, dear was reclusive, rarely making conversation or even eye contact in hartsel, a community of 600. >> not real personable. just quiet, to his own. >> reporter: before moving to colorado, dear lived in this north carolina shack where we no water, electricity or sewer system. reports say he once warned a neighbor to put a metal roof on his home so the government couldn't spy on him. with no clear motive for the mass shooting released by investigators, families of the victims have no answers. jennifer marchkovski identified today as one of the dead. her father writing "i lost you

in a senseless stut shooting." kearre stewart lost his life waiting for his girlfriend. father of two. ♪ tears at the church garrett swasey attended, one of the first officers to rush towards the gunfire, swasey was a former champion figure skater who trained with nancy kerrigan. the doting father to daughter faith and son elijah. >> elijah's birthday is tomorrow, he turns 11, so i know that this is going to be hard for him every year knowing that this is when it happened. >> reporter: with police still working the crime scene, planned parenthood says they were the target of the shooting because they offer abortion services. >> we have heard a lot of hateful speech in the last few months about planned parenthood, we need to get past that vitriol. >> reporter: tonight police warn an official motive for the mass shooting, answers for the

victim's families may not come for some time. though the investigation behind me is still ongoing, law enforcement officials say they are no longer talking to the suspect. he'll be in court on monday, and he could face official charges from the d.a. within the next ten days. chris? >> reporter: nbc's miguel almaguer, thanks. meanwhile, reaction to friday's shooting poured in from across the political spectrum. planned parenthood "it is not enough to denounce the tragedy without also denouncing the poisonous rhetoric that fueled it. instead some politicians are continuing to stoke it, which is unconscionable." the organization singled out donald trump and carly fiorina and accused them of continuing to push a political agenda in the wake of the tragedy. >> we are reporting that he was talking about baby parts and things like that from law enforcement officials. >> i will tell you there is a tremendous group of people that think it's terrible all of the videos that they've seen with

some of these people from planned parenthood talking about it like you're selling parts to a car, and there are people that are extremely upset about it. it looks like you're talking about parts to some machine or something, and they're not happy about it. >> so that means you're not surprised that someone might take an extreme reaction to this? >> this was an extremist and a man who obviously, and they said prior to this, that he was mentally disturbed. so he's a mentally disturbed person. there's no question about that. >> this is so typical of the left to immediately begin demonizing a messenger because they don't agree with the message. the vast majority of americans agree what planned parenthood is doing is wrong and that's why the vast majority of americans are prepared not only to defund planned parenthood but also to stop abortion for any reason at all after five months. so what i would say to anyone who tries to link this terrible tragedy to anyone who opposes abortion or opposes the sale of

body parts is this is typical left wing tactics. >> i think any hateful rhetoric directed at anyone from any source is too much. it's something that we need to get away from. we have to stop allowing ourselves to be pushed into different corners, and then throwing hateful barbs at each other. >> well i think there has been some vicious rhetoric on the left, blaming those who are pro-life. we don't fully know the motivations of this deranged individual. we know that he was a man who registered to vote ads a woman. the media promptly wants to blame him on the pro-life movement when at this point there's very little evidence to indicate that. it's also reported that he was registered as an independent and as a woman and a transgendered leftist activist, if that's what he is. i don't think it's fair to blame on the rhetoric on the left.

this is a murderer. >> reporter: when asked what reports cruz was referring to there, the campaign directed the new york times to a post called the rightscoop.com which says there are voting records in which the suspect identified as eye female. donald trump is not backing down from his claim that muslims in america openly celebrated the 2001 attacks on the world trade center. nearly 5,000 people turned out for a trump, for trump in sarasota this weekend. he expressed sur prides for the uproar his comments caused. >> because i talked about muslims that were celebrating over in parts of new jersey, and everybody knows it's true and by the way, by the way, i had hundreds of tweets and hundreds and hundreds of phone calls to my office saying mr. trump, it's true. they said i saw it. did anybody see it reported? people saw it.

global climate march. meanwhile, hillary clinton has written an op-ed in "time" magazine titled "america must lead at paris climate talks." in it she writes "we must reject the false choice between combating climate change and fostering strong economic growth. if any country can prove that, it's the united states." here's democratic rival bernie sanders last night. >> the united states must lead the world in combating climate change and transforming our energy system away from fossil fuels to energy efficiency and sustainable energy. >> reporter: now to the latest between russia and turkey, as moscow slaps new sanctions on the country that shut downity military jet last week. russia suspended its visa free travel agreement with turkey starting next year and will ban or limit some turkish imports. shortly after the sanction were announced turkey recovered the body of the russian pilot killed after the shoot-down.

the body was thrown to turkey's capital where it was met by russian officials. the u.s. and its allies conducted 22 targets in iraq and syria over the weekend. the u.s.-led bombing campaign is helping erode isis forces and according to "usa today" a growing number of militants are defecting from the terror group because isis is facing mounting pressure in iraq and syria, the group's leaders are looking to expand elsewhere. according to the "new york times," isis is devoting resources and attention to affiliate groups in libya, egypt, afghanistan and elsewhere. an international manhunt continues today for paris attack suspect salah abdeslam and mohammadmo mohammed abrini. abrini was identified as being with abdeslam on video surveillance cameras two days before at tacks at a gas station outside of paris. after six days on maximum
