"first look" starts right now. good morning, i'm dara brown. breaking news out of las vegas. one person is dead and 26 others injured some critically after a woman driving a 1996 oldsmobile jumped the curb on a famed vegas strip. the driver plowed into a group of people before driving back on the road and proceeded to drive back onto the sidewalk and into another group. one witness said the car looked like a bowling ball and the victims pins. police say it was intentional. >> based on the evidence and information from our fatal investigators at this point we are treating this as an intentional act. she is in the detention center right now. she's speaking to detectives. they're drawing hadder blood and she will be, i expect her to be charged within the next few hours. >> the driver fled the scene,

drove to a hotel and abandoned the car in a parking space. 3-year-old was in the car sean reportedly not injured. police say this was not an act of terrorism. parts of las vegas boulevard will remain closed overnight in both directions. all public schools in nashua, hasment new hampshire are closed today after an e-mail threat was sent to the district. the superintendent says they received a detailed threat of violence to harm students and staff and that the threat is specific to monday. new hampshire governor maggie hassan says officials are closely monitoring the situation, schools are expected to reopen on tuesday. the threat comes less than a week after los angeles closed the entire public school system after receiving threatening e-mails. belgium authorities have detained a person related to the paris terror attack. the belgian federal prosecutor says the unidentified person was taken in for questioning following the search of a house in brussels. meanwhile, french newspaper lapractice pa risian reports the

drunk and received probation after his lawyers claimed his family's affluence spoiled him and was a factor. >> the u.s. marshal service believes someone must be helping fugitive ethan couch elude capture. if it is his mother tanya couch it got harder for her to hide swle. the tarrant county official listed her as a missing person which means she'll show up on national police databases. >> he's getting help. we have to find out how he's doing that. >> would it be his mother? >> i think it's a safe assumption. we have not yet located the mother. but yes. >> reporter: authorities think couch may have fled because of this video that appears to show couch with friends playing beer pong. if there was alcohol, that could be a violation of his probation, but it's unclear as the video does not show couch drinking. >> when somebody takes off who has a probation sentence, you

have to wonder whether there's some concern about a violation that might put them back in jail. >> as the former u.s. attorney you've seen that happen? >> we've seen many times where somebody got a generous term of probation, blew it by committing a crime and getting put in prison for the whole time. >> reporter: ever since couch's controversial affluenza defense an unexpected ten-year probation there have been complaints of special treatment for the wealthy. lieus amcconnell among nine people injured in the drunk driving accident that killed four, lucas' father. >> i think accountability for him and would come in the form of swift and certain and severe punishment. >> reporter: judge jean boyd sentenced ethan couch and also set the conditions of his probation. we attempted to ask her about the developments but she was unavailable at home and didn't answer her phone. the u.s. marshal says even if ethan couch has fled the country he's not beyond their reach. >> it really doesn't matter if he flees the country.

we're all screaming and yelling at each other on twitter and through other means these days and i think in order to break through that you've seen candidates in the political field really go beyond where you'd think they normally would have in the past. it's not completely new. we've seen name calling in politics and obviously the politicians are always trying to make their point without overdoing it. these days it's hard to overdo it. >> we do have this hillary clinton calling trump isis' best recruiter. clinton's camp says she misspoke when she said that trump was being used as the isis propaganda in the videos, but how far off is she? europe is commenting on this. is there any truth behind that, that he really could be propelling isis and be used as a recruiter? >> i think that that's kind of a stretch to say he's the best recruiter for isis. i mean, obviously i'm not involved in the recruitingerts, but there are a lot of reasons for people to be disaffected. there are a lot of people who

are disaffected for various reasons and i think that this is political talk in the united states, but i doubt it's having a big effect on what's going on in the middle east. >> trump is now feeling the pressure from ted cruz, who is apparently ahead in iowa and if donald does not win there should we expect a reaction from him that might get ugly if he doesn't win in iowa, new hampshire and south carolina? >> i think a lot of people have lost their hat predicting what's going to happen with donald trump after the next turn but i do think, look, if ted cruz wins iowa, which i think most people expect that he will, he's got a big lead in the most important poll there, "the des moines register"/bloomberg politics poll and i this i that's an expectation almost at this point. i think donald trump will have to win a state shortly thereafter, perhaps new hampshire, where he's up big, perhaps south carolina, where he's up big. it will be interesting to see if they go after each other. right now they're riding the one
