challenger and takes off. the owner of the stolen car calls 911. alerted by police scanners, news helicopters are on the scene, as the suspect takes off with police in pursuit. news anchors follow all the action. >> this is a live picture you're watching from chopper 5. this is the car that police are following. >> the carjacker races through the streets and onto interstate 30 as the police fall behind. it's and unfolding under the tv cameras. >> this car racing down the freeway, you can see how much faster it's moving than the other traffic. >> the stolen car comes flying off the freeway onto abrams road. a few blocks away, 29-year-old jessica leaseman is having a weekday like any other. >> after work every day i pick up my kids, my son first and

aggravated robbery and evading arrest. and even before his first court appearance from his jail cell, he apologizes. >> i hope tj is okay and the other people as well. >> i'm grateful he gave that apology. it made me feel a whole different way about him immediately. now i see the human in him. >> her life had been an emotional roller coaster in the year leading up to the accident. just six months before this crash, her youngest, four-year-old son jalen, passed away in his sleep. >> there was no warning. i put him to bed that night and when i woke up the next morning, he was gone. >> he died of complications from epilepsy. >> it's just instinct to protect my kids. i already lost one child. once they're gone, they're gone.

a taxi driver takes a dangerous ride. >> call for a taxi? >> as a simple pickup becomes a life or death struggle. >> help, i've just been shot! >> las vegas. the city lights up at night. but one cabdriver is headed into the darkness. february 11th, 2015, it's 2:51 a.m., and driver francis o'grady heads out late on his first call of the night. o'grady's been driving the night shift for the past two years. he knows the risks. so does his boss, who outfitted the cars with two cameras, including this one under the mirror which flips the images, making it look as if the driver is on the right hand side.

in vegas at nice, you never know who might call a taxi. >> some of them are pretty scary looking, to be honest with you, especially when you make pickups at the convenience stores, these people are just hanging around these gas stations. you have to be on your guard, to be honest. >> dispatch sent o'grady out to a home in las vegas. on a dark cul-de-sac, a figure is waiting. >> i didn't spot him at first. he was at the end of the cul-de-sac where it breaks into a circle. he looked well-groomed. it didn't raise my suspicion at all. >> it's 3:10 a.m. as o'grady pulls up. the young man approaches and offers him something to drink. >> they always offer water to the drivers, that's a tradition around here. >> distracted, the driver doesn't notice another man walking behind the car.

the one caught on camera there in the back window. but suddenly -- >> i heard something behind me, turned, and saw the automatic. i knew i was in trouble. >> o'grady floors it, and then -- four shots ring out. o'grady is hit twice in the torso. >> help! help! >> i just dove. i just dove. as soon as i saw the gun, i ducked and hit the gas. >> trapped in the cul-de-sac, he has to turn around and drive right by the shooters again. >> spun the car around, looked up to see where the hell they were. >> driving through the darkness, he calls for aid, just trying to hang on. >> dispatch, dispatch! help, i've just been shot! >> i felt wet, i felt myself leaking.

clear, he's lucky to be alive. >> two rounds hit him. the first bullet through the back window and right through the head rest and caught him in the shoulder as he was laying down here, parts of that are still in him. the other one went through the seat and passed through his liver and then through his stomach and then out. >> owe grady spends a week in the hospital. afterwards his boss takes him into his own house for recovery. >> they were kind enough to open up their home to me, which is what i needed. it was the best bed i ever slept him. >> there the police bring him a surprising message. they suspect the pair has struck again. >> these two hoodlums tried to carjack another guy a week later and were successful. they even shot did he guy as he ran away. and he reported it. >> identified as jarvis williams and quincy levett, they are

arrested and charged with several felonies, including conspiracy to commit murder. both men plead guilty to two counts related to the robbery. other charges are dropped. >> i don't know what the hell they wanted. i didn't have any money. >> they didn't ask for any money. they just started shooting. i mean, they shot for his head. it was vicious. it was ruthless. >> back at the cab company, the reminders are all there. the bullet holes in the car door. the battered head rest that shows just how close the bullets came to his head. >> that's the trajectory of the bullet as it came through the window of the passenger seat. so if you can picture it, that's where your head would have been. >> i feel lucky. no two ways about it. damn lucky. i'm still sore, of course. i still have the wounds.

>> i looked down at the gas gauge, okay, i need gas. >> i heads to a gas station on the hudson river parkway. >> i pulled in like on any other day, expecting to pump gas and get to work on time. >> but on this day, right from the start something is off. >> i get out to go to the pump so i can start the pump, and the credit card machine was broken. >> it's all seen on this security footage, as vessio, not yet in work clothes, moves his car back to another pump. what happens next makes him forecast all about the credit card. >> as i put my hand on the card, i heard something. >> it's a toyota camry and it's not stopping. vessio is knocked back by the impact. the gas pump almost topples onto him. when flames burst out of the pump, he takes off.

but then -- >> i notice the driver of the car that hit the gas pump wasn't getting out of the car. when i look at the car, the gentleman is sitting there, his eyes are open but he was completely unresponsive. he had his seatbelt on and his legs were tucked underneath the driver's seat. it was a struggle for me to get him out. he was a big guy. i knew this was a life or death situation. >> vessio fears the entire gas station could explode at any moment. >> i could feel the heat coming out of the gas pump. it was tickling my legs. >> he pulls the driver out of the car and drags him away from the flames. and then he goes back again to get his first aid kit. >> open the trunk, i was able to get the first aid kit. as you see, the flames were already starting to come. some guy asked, why didn't you get back in the car and move it?

i never even thought about that. i don't even know if that would have been a good idea. >> another customer rushes over to help. joined by a doctor off-camera, they move the driver further away seconds before the station explodes into fire. >> certain images will remain in your mind. the one thing that remains in my mind is watching as the flames become more and more intense. >> firefighters arrive in less than ten minutes. and just off-camera, hidden by the spoke, thmoke, they spray d station and put out the blaze. looking at back at the video, senior investigator vessio has relived that morning many times. >> when you literally sit there and watch it, this all happens in 30 seconds. then i started to break it down. i started to see the video piece by piece. so many things happened. it seemed like i was there forever. if you slow down that video, you

can see the impact, the metal "u" that's supposed to protect the gas pump completely extends and flies the same direction i start running. when they recover it, it was about 60 feet behind the gas station. so that kind of gave you an idea how fast he came into the gas station. >> at that moment vessio could have stayed out of harm's way, but chose not to. so what made him do it? >> i think it was a reflex reaction. it was an instant. it was that quick. which is probably where my police training came in. >> according to police reports, just before the crash the driver went into diabetic shock. >> what stuck out to me immediately was, number one, he's not getting out on his own. he was complete dead weight. so i had to pull him out and i had to do it quickly. i think the only thing that was on my mind right there is i was not going to let this guy die.

celebrity boxing contest for pay-per-view video. we're interviewing people about the fight. and we had cut, but the cameraman kept on rolling. and in the corner of the frame, we see this scuffle start to break out. everybody thought it was staged. i mean, we're in hollywood. >> right from the start, the blow by blow is intense. >> these super heroes are going at it. are you kidding me? >> first, mr. incredible and catwoman square off. they're arguing about turf, who gets to approach which tourists for tips. then chewbacca steps in to break up the fight. then freddie krueger. not the most likely peacemaker. >> if you go to sleep, krueger is going to take you out. so don't fall asleep, mr.

for him. he makes his way up through a narrow ravine through the rock. it's a tiny chute, nearly vertical, and it keeps getting steeper and steeper. he's almost at the top, carving the perfect route. and suddenly -- disaster. watching from the top, his brother sees it all. >> he went too far to the side. he crashed into the rocks. >> chris tumbles. and now he's a missile, shooting downhill feet first, at nearly 40 miles an hour. unable to stop, he may crash at any moment. >> i know immediately that he could be in danger.

>> even as he clears the rocks and comes to a stop, he's not out of trouble yet. another danger is hurtling down the mountain, clearly visible on his helmet cam. a quarter ton snowmobile heading right for him. up at the top of the mountain, help is on its way, as seen on a friend's video. chrisser jumps in after his brother, jumping downhill as fast as he can to catch up. >> the trip down to the bottom was going like that. >> chris escaped being crushed and tries to stop the snowmobile, but there's no way. >> i was too tired. i didn't have energy to stop the sled. >> his brother also tried but can't stop the runaway sled.
