"the dallas morning news" says it all "total devastation." nine tornadoes one of which was an ef4 tore through the dallas area. 11 people died and dozens more were injured. four counties are under a state of emergency and during the storms, one woman tried to help a neighbor by taking his newborn to find medical attention. >> oh my god, to jim, the neighbor, please, baby, please, baby, be okay, baby, and i was

left of this apartment complex. this car no doubt parked here, its side view window completely punched out. we hear meteorologists when tornadoes come through talk about getting to the lowest level of a building. these buildings behind us show you why, the roofs ripped right off, but the lower levels sustained almost no damage. we do know there were people trapped in some of the apartments here, but to the best of our knowledge, no one was killed specifically in this area. now, police here do have much of the damage zone blocked off from the perimeter, and it is a wide area. again i said the strongest of the tornadoes touched down here, the ef4 with winds of up to around 200 miles per hour, that's some of just the several devastating numbers we can pass along to you, about 11 people confirmed killed, one of whom was a 1-year-old child, and there were nine separate tornadoes here, many of the people who were killed were driving along the highway that is just beyond those police

parts of louisiana and most of mississippi, this means we're likely to see tornadoes possibly and even damaging wind as well as hail. look at all the rain still in the forecast for st. louis, you've seen incredible flooding, look for more of that as we go through the next 24 hours and a lot of the rain working its way to the east. our futurecast shows you that the storms will work their way to the coastline of the carolinas but we're still looking at the flooding rains and the isolated severe storms along with that front. it will take another day or two for this to clear out and eventually it will. we're not talking about rain, we're talking about snow. lot of it falling into wichita falls, fascinating that ft. worth and texas is getting snow but dallas is getting rain. you can see we have plenty of snow ahead for areas into the great lakes, the midwest, and yes, new england, too, louis, so we're going to start transitioning to a calmer weather time, we're just not quite there yet. >> we want the calmer weather, more later on in the show when we check back with you. more about the wildfire raging in southern california on friday night, yesterday 400

firefighters contained 75% of the ventura, california, wildfire scorched more than 1200 acres of land. the blaze erupted friday night when high winds caused power lines in an oil field to arc. heavy rain and the bare soil that covered the charred hills poses a threat to nearby highways and railroad tracks and officials are worried about landslides. the wildfires expected to be fully contained by tomorrow. calls for change are growing louder in chicago after the deaths of two more people at the hands of the police over the weekend. officials say the father of a 19-year-old college student called the police according to the 911 dispatcher. he was accusing his son of banging on his bedroom door with a bat and threatening his life. the 19-year-old's father reportedly asked the upstairs neighbor betty jones to watch for the police to arrive. once on the scene, police officials say they were forced to shoot the young man because he was acting combative and the

55-year-old neighbor was accidentally struck and killed. now once again families and the community are demanding answers. >> why you got to shoot first and ask questions later?! it's ridiculous! somebody needs to do something about this! this is ridiculous! what about the taser? taser him down, don't start shooting people, innocent people! >> if you are afraid of these streets to the point that you got to shoot first, you need to turn your badge in. >> i mean, where do we get our help? when is the mayor going to step up? when is he going to step up? because we can't get no help with the police. cpd has failed us over and over. i go home, i'm sad, i'm grieving, i see the news, i see another person has been shot five times. something's wrong with that. >> i've been out protesting for the last month, every day.

the investigation plays out. earlier this month the justice department launched a civil rights investigation into the department's policies following the outrage over the police shooting death of laqwan mcdonald. let's turn overseas where days after intense fighting and months of u.s. backed air strikes iraqi security forces are poised to announce they've recaptured the key western city of ramadi from isis militants. isis seized control of the sunni city seven months ago are iraqi troops fled in an embarrassing defeat that prompted washington to rethink its strategy against isis. the government's next target the northern city of mosul, the most populated city controlled by isis in either iraq or syria. here at home at least 60 people have been charged with terrorism linked crimes this year, a record the justice department attributes to the rising threat and influence of isis. an historic meeting to tell you about, it all began with a birthday phone call four hours

after the indian prime minister narendra modi called his pakistani counteren part sharif to wish him a happy birthday. modi landed in lahore for the first visit by a indian prime minister to pakistan in more than a decade. the unofficial visit requested by modi hours before he flew back from afghanistan raised hopes for negotiations between the nuclear armed neighbors who have fought three wars since 1947. the foreign secretaries of the two countries are expected to meet next month. let's turn now to politics at home. republican front-runner donald trump is warning hillary clinton that he will not hesitate to attack former president bill clinton's past if the former secretary of state continues to accuse him of sexism. trump was responding to hillary clinton's comments on the tone of his campaign, and use of a vulgar reference while campaigning last week. >> this is not the first time
2:40 am
he's demonstrated, you know, a penchant for sexism and so i'm not sure again anybody is surprised. this keeps pushing the envelope. >> trump came back at clinton tweeting "hillary clinton has announced that she is letting her husband out to campaign, but he's demonstrated a penchant for sexism, so imappropriate." he added this about bill clinton yesterday. >> i think he is fair game because his presidency was really considered to be very troubled, to put it mildly, because of all of the things that she's talking to me about. she's mentioning sexism. i turned her exact words against her from that standpoint. she's got to be careful. it's got to be fair, and we all have to fight fairly and we have to fight for the good of the country, for the good of the people, for the good of everybody but we have to fight fairly and she's playing the woman's card and it's like give me a break. >> meanwhile two top democrats who aren't named clinton are crafting their approaches to donald trump in the new year. political reports that president obama is preparing to speak out
2:41 am
more forcefully on trump in the coming months, as a "central theme" of his international engagement. deputy national security adviser ben rhodes said "where there are statements that could present challenges in terms of perceptions of america's openness to people of different faiths and america's inclusiveness, the president is going to speak out on that." meanwhile senator bernie sanders cut his holidays short to get back on the road campaigning in reno, nevada, and during an appearance on sunday's shows he suggested the undercurrents driving the success of donald trump's campaign are, believe it or not, the same ones that he's tapping into. >> many of trump's supporters are working class people, and they're angry, and they are angry because they're working longer hours for lower wages. they're angry because their jobs have left this country and gone to china or the low wage countries. they're angry because they can't afford to send their kids to college so they can't retire with dignity.
2:42 am
i think what trump has done successfully i would say is take that anger, take that anxiety about terrorism and say to a lot of people in this country, look, the reason for our problems is because of mexicans, or he says about the muslims, they're all terrorists. we got to keep them out of this country. that's what we have to deal with to make america great. meanwhile interesting enough, john, this is a guy who does not want to raise the minimum wage. he has said he thinks wages in america are too high. >> let's go back to trump. he bashed the state republican party last night as questions mount about his unorthodox campaign. report in "the washington post" finds trump supporters new to primary voting and questions whether they'll turn out in places like iowa where the caucus system can intimidate first timers. the new york times claim he is side stepping pollsters researchers and advertising and little investment in voter turnout. trump is blasting the republican
2:43 am
party of virginia as stupid for requiring voters to sign a statement that they are republicans. virginia's primary elections have traditionally been open to all registered voters no matter their party affiliation but the state board of elections recently approved a request to fill out a form that says "i am a republican." trump noted the virginia gop have lost seven statewide elections in a row and that it is "a suicidal mistake to shut out desperately needed voters and new voters." he tweeted hopefully the republican national committee can strengthen out the total mess that is taking place in virginia's republican party fast. 2015 could be the year remembered for an explosion of polling in the presidential race. "the boston globe" looked at the number of polls of the republican race in the early contest states and they're up nearly 90%. already this year there have been 236 polls taken across the country that 64 more back in
2:44 am
2011 while the numbers of national polls remained steady at 100, the number in new hampshire has more than doubled from 29 up to 60. iowa's up from 29 in 2011 to 56 in 2015, and even the third contest, south carolina, has seen an increase in polls from 14 to 20. now still ahead on "way too early" a bizarre play call for the patriots that earned the nickname belly kick. plus -- >> it's completely fabricated, complete trash, garbage, there's more adjectives i'd like to be able to use. >> denver broncos quarterback peyton manning on the doping allegations levied against him in a new documentary. we'll have that plus the latest on the severe weather moving across the nation this holiday season, when "way too early" is back in a moment.
